Oh, how I agree with you 100%. I sometimes wonder if worship nowadays has not evolved into entertainment? With respect to those who really worship God.
Keep looking for a church until you find one that respects both the traditional and contemporary traditions! Blended worship is commonplace these days and recognizes the validity of both positions. I grew up singing only hymns until the age of 10 and then sang only contemporary songs until 22, then from 23 until now I have made a strong effort to be in churches that honor whatever music honors God and his Word. :) There's a website called The Berean Test that analyses the lyrics of songs and points out the truth or inaccuracies in every line and phrase.

My brother has pancreatic cancer and is in his last days/hours. He can't communicate anymore. He used to like to meditate by imagining he's sitting by a campfire, so I have RUclips campfire sounds on one device. He also played some classical guitar years ago, and grew up with these old hymns, so I have this playing for him on another device. It comforts my mother and I as we sit with him, and I believe it is comforting to him as well. Thank you for sharing it. God bless.

Hi Josh! I'm a writer of Biblical studies for a west coast publisher, and I put out about 50 pages a week of materials for them. I'm either listening to YOU, or to my waterfall my husband got me for Mother's Day. Just thought you might like to know what people are up to while listening to you, ha ha! Bless you and yours and thanks for the great background and thought music.
. Great Fingerstyle, Josh, and these hymns are so beautiful. Thank you for sharing. I also love the old hymns, and play them on my Martin acoustic as covers on RUclips. I also have my own Christian folk songs which I wrote over the years and posted on my RUclips playlist. Some of the really old hymns I have found in hymnals can be re-introduced with some chord changes or melody revisions to keep them alive in the hymn genre, particularly those hymns which have choppy or uneven meter. Rather than just let them fade into obscurity because nobody plays or sings them anymore, it is best, in my opinion, to update them with new chords and revised lyrics which still maintain the integrity of the original, and the spirit and intent of the themes. You might consider looking at the Christian folk music genre seriously. Generally done on solo guitar, but not absolutely, one can compose a song which incorporates Old Gospel style synthesized with folk and hymnal methods. In my view, the most important two elements are God glorifying lyrics and a catchy melody, done in a ballad style, soft, and reflective. The idea is to present lyrics which are consecrated to the Lord Jesus, and the message is of more importance than the singer, and guitar...which are instruments used for God's glory. Sometimes, I will see a young or old Christian singing a hymn and playing guitar while doing a selfie of themselves performing. Their voice may be wonderful, but the focus is on them, not the lyrics or theme of the song. I do not play or sing with pictures or videos of myself. I serendipitously found this recording. I am so happy after listening. It is my first time of listening to hymns played by only an acoustic guitar. I was used to piano and church organ but now, I am so much in love with this rendition. The hymns all of a sudden seem so new albeit I have heard all of them over and over again. These hymns taught the Gospel of Jesus Christ and edified the Church with melody and poetry. Now, we have guitar delay and vain repetition, void of most poetry and intrinsic spiritual value.
This is so perfect! I was recently trying to look for worship guitar instrumental, but there were many that were really upbeat, and I just needed something really soothing...then God brought this on my recommended! I serendipitously found this recording. I am so happy after listening. It is my first time of listening to hymns played by only an acoustic guitar. I was used to piano and church organ but now, I am so much in love with this rendition. The hymns all of a sudden seem so new albeit I have heard all of them over and over again.
