I remember my first encounter with Asmr being… michelle phan’s first video tutorials back in 2009. They were not ment to be ASMR but her soft voice, the make up skills and lo-fi camera has doing the trick. I think that Asmr has something to do with childood, the sense of comfort and “nest” that soft voices gave to us and the ability to be mesmerized by repetitive movement or sounds, in some way stick to our brain and resurfaces everytime we stimulate it.
Thank you so much for your analysis! I appreciated that you tuched the “sexualized” aspect of ASMR and was interesting to known that some Asmrartist shifted from OF to being conservatives: i never catch that and made me think.

I distinctly remember my first encounter with ASMR, and it was unintentional but there was this make up tutorial for Harry Styles of all people 😭 that I would rewatch because it was so relaxing and always made me sleepy and then I remember there was another virtual haircut video I watched, also not ASMR, but that video directed me to an asmr haircut video by venividi and I’ve been watching ever since

My gateway was Frivvi. She changed everything. My Golden Trio is Friv, Batala & NinjaStarASMR. They saved my sleep schedule.

As a Brit, hearing you say ‘zed’ instead of ‘zee’ was lovely lol
There really needs to be a proper scientific study behind ASMR because there isn’t a scientific consensus around it
