I’ve always been fascinated by Buster when I’ve seen him in your and MD’s videos so thank you for featuring him. I love all your little graphics on this one, well done! Thanks Matt.
Love me some Buster!!! Best scene was during the Pea Puffer tank build and he thought you were gonna feed him 100 little puffers and he started to freak out! Had me cracking up!
I love to see you in the shop, at your home, as well as with MD! I’m so glad to see that your channel is growing. Keep up the great work, Matt!!! 🌱🐠❤️ p.s. Tell Buster, “Hi from🇺🇸🫶”
This channel is great Matt - I'm glad you're going to still be doing the informative videos along with the exciting stuff with MD. I'm in Surrey, but i'm seriously considering a day trip to Taunton soon to see Buster and the tanks you've setup with MD in the shop haha. We've got some decent shops around here but nothing that compares to your one!
Thank you for all that information, Matt. I had seriously considered getting puffer fish. Now, I don't think I would've been able to give them a proper life. Always happy to see Buster in your videos ❤️
Popped in to the Taunton maidenhead the other day for a browse after seeing yours and mds videos, my youngest thought buster was hilarious with his 'big teefs'!
Buster is so cool! I'm glad you're still doing informational videos. It's very good to have all the info possible before getting any sort of fish, but especially the ones that will get really big, or need special care. I'm also glad the "tank busters" are getting a bit more hard to find. I think if you really want a big fish, you will be able to find one, but the chain stores should be more careful about selling them. Just a few years ago they'd sell a common pleco to someone with a 20 gallon tank!
They still are selling people common plecos with 20g tanks. I deal with it at least once a week working at my lfs. So many surrendered, and so many people still buying them tiny. luckily we have a lot of customers with ponds so we can offload them someway.
@@plyr6369 it's a nightmare! It's something that has definitely got less in our area. Maybe that will be one of my next videos warning people off tank busters.
@@plyr6369 Oh, that's terrible. I inherited a common pleco when my sister moved in, and then moved out. She had it in a 75 gallon (much better than 20, but still not big enough!). I ended up setting up a 300 gallon stock tank outside for it. Now I just have to figure out how to keep the temperature warm enough when we have a cold snap here in central Florida. Hopefully I can insulate it, somehow.
Matt, you not only have great content, but you have the personality to keep people interested. Glad to not only learn from you here, but on MD videos as well. Keep up the passion.
I love puffers!! Was at the lfs yesterday and they had porcupine, dogface, figure 8 and spotted😍 I was in heaven😃 thank you for letting us know more about Buster and the Mbu pufferfish. He's adorable
Aw thank you so much for posting this. I have been really curious about Buster🐟🙂💙Edit. Now that I have watched. Fantastic vid. Great info. Love your humour. Thanks for sharing. 💙From NZ🙂
Is a wonderful thing y'all both teamed up, it's even better that you are still here in this channel. Always give us a tour of the shop with new fish arrives and so on.
Awesome, love seeing Buster!! I can relate to those who stop by the shop just to see him, if I lived close I would too 🐡Thanks for another great video, so exciting watching you and MD and your success with your channels, congratulations and keep the videos coming 🤗🤗
I have no desire to ever keep a mbu (nor sting rays or other giant fish), but it's cool to learn about them and to see them on display in places where they can be kept humanely, such as at Maidenhead. After having seen Buster on this channel and at MD for awhile now, it's great to get to know him a bit better.
Glad you still get to hang with Buster. That was my first question when you guys made the announcement. Very informative video. Audio was a little quiet though. Can't wait for more!
Yeah still get to hang with him from time to time. The audio was because I was trying my new mic and may have had the setting wrong. Hopefully better for next time hahaha.
If I'm completely honest being on camera isnt me 😂 the majority is built I'm just waiting on the glass to arrive. I'll definitely send you some pics of the process and vids when it's done
Have you ever seen him puff up? I had a spotted puffer (much smaller type) that did it once. Amazing!!! I have no idea why. I also didn't know he ate snails. I heard a cruching sound, and within a couple of weeks, they were all gone. 😂
@@FishShopMattlooking for some advice . I have a angel fish with pop eye it's healthy enough still eats fine is there anything I can do to help it out. ?
@FishShopMatt well keep them coming lol Also watched a puffer fish teeth trimming video after this. Not a job I'd want to do!!! Good luck with the whole MD collab, hopefully helps your channel push on to the next level
I love Buster and I wish to be able to visit him one day, but that's more than likely never going to happen because I live in Germany. But Pufferfish are amazing! I recently got some Dwarf Pufferfish and I absolutely love them! They seem happy. But MAN do they eat a lot :O I started raising my own food for them to not have to go and get some life food so often anymore (I still will to get some variation in, but it helps to have a stash at home). Could you maybe do a video on Dwarf Pufferfish one day? It would be really cool to learn more about their background from you
Great videos matt as always can i ask you about a tank you did with md ten months ago it's the 3ft tanganiykan tank !! with the stocking you put a lot of cypchromis in there everyone i speak to says no you need a 4 ft tank !!! is that tank 3x2x2 ??? i'm torn between getting the oase styleine 175 or an aquaone tank whic is narrow but 4ft long . my only concern is the build quality of the horizon 182 . i'd really apprciatte your thoughts . Keep up the good work
Thanks Matt! given that most of us will never have one it was really cool learning about the species. one question I was expecting you to be asked all the time is, do they ever actually puff up? or is that unique to their salt water cousins?
Can you please do a video on tissue culture plants, e.g., when they are still too small to plant? How to store? We have only had them in my country for 4 month and I have found I get spotty results. One of the crypt varies I didn't get a single plant to grow where the anbuis nana pettie I was to get 4 plants from it.
I don't think you'll ever get the farenheit thing but mostly because no matter how often it comes up, I cannot keep the celsius on track in my head. What I'm thinking is keeping a base conversion number in my head to avoid of the math of it all. Interestingly enough, I've found that describing tanks in centimeters harder to keep track of despite us using cm here in the states it just does not translate well.
We've seen him puff up about 4 or 5 times in the 8 ish years we've had him. Underwater puffing up is fine as sometimes I think it's almost like a stretch. If he's scared or stressed and puffs up it's not so good. Also if he puffs up out of water it can be deadly.
Hey Matt , I was wondering if you could come up with a rough estimate for the cost of feeding Buster over a 30 day period. It's not going to be exact I realize as I have more respect for you to hold your estimate for anything other than something that I have been curious about from watching Cory feeding Ladybird. My days having anything larger than a freak of nature SAE are thankfully not even an option for me and I have been enjoying the Bettas together with the typical community fish much more than I ever did when I was wondering wtf I was thinking when my 3" Jardini was close to being 3' in a 6' tank . My Black Neon Tetra's have been enjoying the old feeding habits and I will be doing more target feeding in the future lol. I am assuming that old habits etc. Something simple even like how many days a week are they fed or if you need to fast how many days
As far as I know (from my experience) most species of freshwater puffers will lay eggs within the first 2-5 years. If you don't see eggs after 5 years it's a male. I've had 2 female fahakas that laid infertile eggs shortly after 2 years old. Females will lay eggs regardless of if there's a male around.
I remember the group of them that came in. He ended up being chosen to try and feed up and bulk him up to be kept in the shop. Why he was the chosen one tho i cant remember.
I've owned my mbu in my 10x4x3 for the last 8 months since he was 3inchs,I've been told they all have different characters, what I mean is he sits at the bottom in the corner sulking doesn't move unless feeding or when the lights go off ,I see so many mbu interacting with there owners and moving about, so bloody frustrating
No one can tell which sex they are?? I'm assuming no one has bred them in captivity then. Lol the second after writing this comment you confirmed my statement. That's a bit alarming they haven't been bred in captivity, what happens when they inevitably become endangered? 😢
