@@marcosguardiola6033Well, they sent “Man of War” which was initially accepted, but then the studio realised that since “Man of War” was written for a different movie 20 years prior, they wouldn’t be eligible to win an Academy Award for Best Original Song in a motion picture. “Spectre” was then composed as an award-eligible replacement. By placing “Spectre” over the intro to the movie, it’s pretty clear the intro was made with that specific song in mind and the Sam Smith song that made it in the movie must have just been swapped out last second, probably because the studio thought it had a higher chance of winning an award. Really unfortunate example of studio greed throughout the whole process.
Love it! You can't tell me "Knives Out" isn't jazz, though. Kudos to the piano player, too, beautiful interpretation of that middle section. Great arrangement, too, way to get those altered dominant chords in there!
LOVED this. When I was in high school, I was also blessed with a cool band director, got to play things like Jimi Hendrix and Weather Report basslines on the baritone saxophone, and as a result I'm still working in music today. Can't wait to see how many out of this group wind up going pro themselves. Thanks for being an awesome teacher!
I see that conductor and I imagine him going to his car right before this show and getting SUPER faded. He's up there just Bobbing his head, jammin out, and probably thinking "this is so fucking rad."
@@D-KAL-KDZ right haha. i promise i mean it in the most nicest way possible. It gave me james bond vibes but like, not a cash grab movie. An actually good one haha. Thank you for doing this!!
@@dazey8706 you are correct…. I think I must have been tired. Late night YT is dangerous to comment on. I do enjoy the behind the scenes, how the sausage gets made.
Thank you so much! :) But this performance does not have anything to do with me, I was just the dude awestruck with the camera, all props to the performers.
The arrangers for this set of big band arrangements (which is called the Radiohead Jazz Project) specifically didn’t make a creep arrangement for I think this very reason

@@rc2257Ken Schaphorst, Sierra Music
@@D-KAL-KDZ Thanks! It's such a great arrangement.
@big_fishhh uhhh his best obviously
These guys should totally cover Life In A Glasshouse. Radiohead's Jazz song.
We would love to but there doesn’t seem to be an existing jazz ensemble arrangement that’s of good quality :(
@@D-KAL-KDZ That’s sad :(
Maybe analyze live recordings of the song with a jazz band, and play it by ear there. I don’t know though.
@@D-KAL-KDZ Awe, well, the existing cover is amazing. Good job to everyone in the musical ensemble, though. 👏
@@Cinemace81 I WISH we were good enough to pull something like that off

They Should've sent this as their James Bond song proposal instead of "Spectre" for real lol

@ugeanspyrll6816 hilarious that they thought they were more likely to win an award via sam smith than a band featuring a whole film composer
Damn this is a crazy standard for a high school band and such a good arrangement!
Funnily enough this was probably one of their easier or more average songs to play last year 😅, still very much appreciate the love!

Life in a Glasshouse too!
@@julezdacoolz5955 I was thinking the exact same thing!
Sounds like a Bond Theme.
pensé exactamente lo mismo
You should listen to Man of War (inspired by Bond's theme) and Spector (written for a Bond movie)
@@lounirs At least one of them should've been the opening credit song, such a waste.
Radiohead’s jazziest songs (in my opinion):
1. The National Anthem
2. Life In a Glasshouse
3. Pyramid Song
4. Present Tense
5. If You Say the Word
Knives Out is a pretty jazzy song as well
@@doveseelight true! So is optimistic!
Present Tense is more Folk than Jazz imo
