Listened to this compilation over and again in my teens, both on vinyl the on CD. It is inextricably tied to my memories of that time. It was and still is a part of my sense of reality - so much so that I think I struggled to come to terms with the real world as I grew into adulthood - life was not matching this soundtrack to my life. Definitely the best Mike Oldfield compilation up to the moment it was released (I was 15 when it came out) and indeed a collection of many of his best songs. Actually, the album of originals "Earth Moving" which came after this compilation, was lacking some of the brilliance of these previous songs, although it also had some nice ones like "Holy", "Hostage" or "Innocent". The other "instrumental" side of this compilation to me is even more astounding, being a fan of Mike's instrumental songs, primarily. The version Mike made of "Recuerdos de la Alhambra" for the soundtrack of the film "The Killing fields" goes by the name of "Etude" and is amongst the 3 most beautiful musics I've ever heard. I wish Richard Branson hadn't pressured Oldfield into going more pop. There's some great songs to be sure, but by and large they're very dated.
