Wow, you are a great teacher. I have followed others and they either spoke too fast or did not take the time to really illustrate the keys. You have nailed it. Thank you.
Thank You So very much for this lessons!! I got back in to playing sax i played years ago. Now i been practicing non stop 6 or 7 years now. If I can read the music I can play it with practicing you know. What I never been able to do is improvisation. This video totally got me going out my shell ( taboo sort speaking ) I was beginning to think I would never be doing improvisation until I came across your video!! Thank You
Thank you very much! Just to let you know, I have a sale giving more than 70% off at the moment, here's a link: saxophonestudies.teachable.com/p/full-membership-january-sale

Great sound, I love slow blues and you make it sound amazing. A question, when you blow into the sax do you place your bottom lip between the reed and your bottom teeth?
UPDATE 2019: Hi Sylvain, I have now created a video on saxophone embouchure, this should answer your question better. You can view it here: ruclips.net/video/YJIXFnWA-sU/видео.html
I like that strap, what kind is it, or where did you get it? I switched from the standard neck strap (degenerative disk/arthritis) to shoulder straps, but those are too cumbersome to put on/take off.
Hi Red, it's part of the saxophone strap. It is designed to go through the belt straps on your trousers, but I found it was more comfortable sitting just below my chest. It's a LeBayle Belt Strap.
Hello Matthew, I am from Germany and I have discovered your tutorials. Very good! I've been playing Tenor for about a year. This year I learned a lot about music theory and got to know the important scales (4 Major-, 3 Minor-, 4 Blues-Scales). But I miss the crative playing. Is there any tutorials from you, which helps me in this direction? How, for example, the Bluesthema? Thanks and Regards. Leo
Hi Leo, thanks for your message. In short, yes there will be! I shall be releasing an introduction to improvisation course and various other creative led courses over the next year. As you are signed up to the Saxophone Studies website you will get an email when these are released. There will also be adverts on this youtube channel. In the meantime, you could apply the method from the above video lesson to the other blues scales that you already know. It's also worth keeping your eye on the Saxophone Studies website as I shall be releasing a free course soon with loads of resources, including backing tracks, which will help with your creative practise. Best wishes, Matthew

Hi Sam, You can access the pdf and all other resources for my RUclips videos here: saxophonestudies.teachable.com/p/youtuberesources The SAXOPHONE Studies website has been updated since this video was made. As I am unable to change the video content there is a link underneath the video in the Description that takes you to the right place (it is the same as the link I have put above). Sorry for the confusion, do drop me a line if you need any more help: matthew@saxophonestudies.com
Hi Tony, I am playing alto saxophone in this video, but the technique will work on any saxophone, although the pitch will sound different. I shall be releasing a Learn To Improvise (series 1) course in early 2018, it's just in the editing stage at the moment. In the meantime, you may find some things of use here: saxophonestudies.teachable.com/p/freeresourceslibrary

Great video and amazing skills, however there needs to be a lot more explanation as to how to do these "experiments" as you call them. The methods, the techniques, etc, that went into making all those different sounds and tones were not explained in their entirety. You were lacking in this, and I feel some viewers may have been confused as to how to actually perform and reciprocate the sounds you were putting out. Your video was titled "Sound Instantly Bluesy On The Saxophone", however the actual content was more focused on a scale that is meant to be bluesy. I don't mean to be so critical, I just want you to improve and make it better for next time. Like I said, truly amazing skills and talent, but a little more explanation needed.
Hi Meme Master, thanks for your kind comments and for your feedback. This is just a 'taster' video with limited time. I am sure that you'll appreciate that i can't cover all aspects of saxophone playing here. There is an assumption that people using it will be able to play long and short notes and to use tonguing. I do have much more material available at saxophonestudies.com that you can access. Also, if you sign up at the site I'll keep you informed when I publish new material and lessons. I hope this helps. All best wishes, Matthew
This is brilliantly simple. Start with two notes - easy ones, too - and slowly build up from there. Real results, and quickly. Outstanding.
Thanks Tom, I appreciate the feedback
This video is a gem. You've mastered being a teacher. It was so simple but I instantly managed to learn a lot from this clip and my improv.
That's great to hear! I'm so pleased to hear that it's helping you with your playing - it makes it all worthwhile :)

Nice
Twelve bar blues 5th chord in Eb.
Maybe make another one of these with the Kansas City blues scale which is easy too but would give ur students more sounds to work with
thanks Andy
I like that strap, what kind is it, or where did you get it?
I switched from the standard neck strap (degenerative disk/arthritis) to shoulder straps, but those are too cumbersome to put on/take off.
Bo Diddly looks like a body strap typically used with the larger saxes like a baritone or a bass
it's a lebayle belt harness
Thank You!
That was lit, Thumbs up :) :0
Thank you for the lesson. I am curious about what is that black belt around your chest, is it part of the saxophone belt or helps breath better ?
Hi Red, it's part of the saxophone strap. It is designed to go through the belt straps on your trousers, but I found it was more comfortable sitting just below my chest. It's a LeBayle Belt Strap.

Great
The harness you have, please give me some info on that!!
it is a Lebayle belt harness strap. I'm not sure if they still make them. If they don't, it's a shame as it's my favourite strap ever!
Please teach the gliss at the start😱😱
Great job, what's the name of your sax.

Which Saxholder do you use in the Video?
Hi Stefanie, it's a "LeBayle Belt Harness" - but I find it more comfortable around my chest than my waist.
