Happy Birthday. Thanks for the great reviews. I already have Gotham knights from another HB Bundle, but have been wanting to play Sifu for awhile now. The rest of the bundle is varied, so cannot really complain too much.
Happy birthday and thank you for the reviews! I personally like hearing your own opinions. We might have slightly different tastes, but it does really help to gauge whether I would like something.
That's always been my goal, I really try hard to do at least one positive paragraph and one negative, and tend to be able to deliver that for every game, because there's very few perfect games, or awful games, so I'd rather someone understand why I like or don't like something, so they can decide if it's something that resonates or a deal breaker for them.
Sifu on pc sold me on this bundle. Only had it on Switch before, so it will be nice to play at a higher framerate. Good to see that Astral Ascent gets high praise since i was on the fence about it based on the trailer they show. This Means Warp looks intriguing, since i loved Lovers, Overcooked. Enjoyed your video format too btw. The conclusion sections with the tierlist and the value recap is what got me to sub. Keep up the great content.
I played a bunch more of Astral Ascent, and need to play even more. So far I've seen three characters and they all feel really unique and interesting. It could be compared to the weapon of Hades, but good writing, interesting characters and a steady increase to both challenge and unlocks makes me even happier than when I made this.
Happy Birthday month! And thanks for the reviews as always. I'm for sure picking this up, especially since I'm on that 6 month coupon deal Humble did recently. Sifu and Gotham Knights looks like a fun time, and I'll admit I've got a bit of morbid curiosity about High on Life, so this is an easy get for me. Have a great month!
If you grab the bundle give High on Life a shot, maybe it'll work better on you, and if people are undecided, watch a playthrough (I'd recommend a silent player so you can see what the game is like itself). But I think you got a good list there already. I'm sure Gotham Knights would be good enough if I gave it the time, but It really made me want to go play Arkham Asylum while playing it which is a strange feeling. I miss the parry attacks.
The repeated content is certainly disappointing. Humble Choice has been pretty good about not repeating things that were in previous Humble Bundles, and for this one to have 2 repeats threw me off for sure. But the top two tiers of games make it look like it's not an actual disappointing month. Appreciate these reviews, and have a great birthday!
So kinda sounds like your birthday month bundle was similar to my sentiments last month about my own birthday month. That said, Happy Birthday! Without rehashing what I already said in a reply comment to you on my own video, I'll just say that, yes, completely agree that Astral Ascent was great. Although, I think it's made even better now knowing that they try to pull off some sort of Hades-like storytelling. I noticed that the dialogue was unique to each character (which is obviously pretty cool) but didn't realize the dialogue would be different as you go through an area again (specifically the boss from the looks of your gameplay snippet). Oh, and I guess I'll say something in defense of Gotham Knights. There are definitely better coop games out there BUT there are very few that let you play as a superhero especially one in a big open world. Probably the only ones I can think of would be Lego Marvel Super Heroes (1 or 2, can't really go wrong) or DC Universe Online. Great review as always, dude. Enjoy your birthday and the rest of the summer if you can withstand the heat!
Thanks for warning me about high on life. Just form the screenshots it looked like it might be a bit of fun, but the short clip reminded me of another game I despised, Trover Saves the Universe, which as it turns out was made by the same folks. And that game was the most aggressively unfunny game I've ever played, every "joke" I encountered in that game was just shoved in your face with no setup, most of them were just mean for the sake of being mean, and the game just felt insecure, like it was so afraid that you would not get the joke that it just dragged them out so that they could repeat the "joke" part over and over. The clip from High on Life looks like the humor is identical.
Wow, I'm surprised by your hatred for High On Life. Personally I really enjoyed it, especially given the voice cast. Every other character is a cameo from a known comic actor or internet personality. Obviously Roiland is a black mark and the humour can be relentless (and very nihilistic), but I think the game is a fun send up of video game tropes.
*Shrug* That's why I always feel nervous about most of my reviews because I can say Astral Ascent is the best game ever, and someone else will just not like it. But yeah something about HoL just brings out the worst in me.
High on life clearly prove how rick and morty yelling humour is so trash. Targeted audience is probably the new generation of that skibiidi toilet enjoyers.
it's a stylistic choice for sure, but I've never really been a fan of comedy that is too rapid fire, at least with punchlines, rather than clever writing. (Crazy Ex Girlfriend, or even Gilmore Girls has a fast pace with good delivery). Thanks for the birthday wishes.
There were some other people in the reddit threads with similar feelings about Astral Ascent. So it's almost certainly worth a try for anyone who even remotely likes the genre.
Gotham Knights is certainly a mixed bag. I played through the whole campaign on console and while it certainly gets better later the first few hours are grueling. I feel like for every good idea the game has a couple of bad ones show up and hamper the experience. I like that the characters truly feel different to play, particularly as you unlock more of their abilities, but having to do the whole grinding to unlock the travel power for each character is absolutely ridiculous. I haven't played High on Life, but every single preview I've seen about it has made me wanna cut my veins off. God, what an appalling sense of humor. Roiland has always been one-note, but this is evidence that he's always been guilty of all the bad parts of everything he's released and none of the good ones. The fact that they had to patch in a "hear less of this fucking annoying dialogue" option after so many complaints should tell you everything. I truly believe you when you say this is the worst game you've ever played. At least Superman 64 doesn't constantly blabbers terrible jokes in your ear. And happy birthday!
Hey it's my birthday month as well. I thought the game play of High on Life was pretty good, I totally understand not liking the humor though. Overall I decided to skip this month, I need to go through my back log.
I completely ignore Fanatical bundles nowadays because the chance of mid to big name games repeating in a fanatical bundle and a humble choice is too high and I've been a humble supporter for a while, I see no reason to change
3 skips, 1 wishlist, yeah that's a pretty weak month, however the good ones seem real nice! Funny thing, I noticed I already had HoL ignored on steam, likely because the humor felt insufferable. And for This Means Warp, I checked the reviews and it seemed to be fairly flat after that point, so maybe not as great. I skipped it for that reason.
Another hard month. Do you go with Choice, or do you gamble on the two or three killers appearing in more appealing packages? Shame about Universe for Sale, those character designs are inspired.
I'm still thrilled I got Astral Ascent, and for 12 bucks that's worth it (I put it on top for a reason!) . If you are going to play Sifu too? Easy purchase in my mind. My personal opinion is if someone really enjoys two games in a bundle it's usually worth the price, but that's of course just my opinion on value.
@@Kinglink Indeed, bundle has a bunch of cool games. Rare we saw those, I was facepalming it hard when it leaked a few minutes before but turned out to be real haha. Massive bundle.
Great insight for this month's Humble Choice. (And Happy (Upcoming/Belated) Birthday). I'm a bit surprised to see such ire on the High on life, though I can't blame you at all. I never got into Rick and Morty at the highest (I watched an episode. Meh, it's was alright. Overrated AF.). What I get, If someone is/was a fan of R&M, they'll most likely enjoy High on Life. Otherwise get slowly get annoyed by the one-note non-stop humour over time. So, fair to say that If I had to hear and watch the same "jokes", twice in order to continue. Yeah, I'd be pissed off as well. Perhaps it's just better to pickup/wishlist Astral Ascent, Sifu, or other indie titles part of the bundle by it self, and pass this one. Edit: Correction in assuming R&M fans would love HoL.
"PIck this up if you've already played all 3 Arkham games recently." But there are four... Which one was so bad that you deleted it out of your memory - Knight or Origins? Sad to hear Divulian Ultra has the same awful "no-penalty respawns while enemies remain dead and damaged" design as Prodeus. Is there at least a quicksave/quickload option, which Prodeus lacks (and which is what makes it so awful)? [Edit: Oh, you remembered in the Tier List section :D]
So it was Origins. I remember when I was writing the script but chose to leaveit the mistake earlier. (And honestly I really do like Origins so I shouldn't have forgot it.) I don't believe there's a quicksave/quickload option. I didn't dive deep into the difficulty, maybe one of them allows enemies to respawn (it should).
I played but didnt finish High On Life on Game Pass before it expired for me so that was the headliner for me but makes me pause seeing you be so negative about it. Your experience with seeing clips on tiktok before playing must have been different than mine because I did find things funny. Makes me question your overall judgement a bit more than it does the quality of that game. Not sure if this is a hit or miss for me.
I mentioned in the video I played it for a couple (about 2 hours) on Game Pass myself and didn't enjoy myself that much. (I do remember a couple things making me go "that's funny", the first time but the shotgun approach to jokes really ruins that moment for me.) And it was bound to happen, my judgement sucks and no one has realized it for 4 years. But thanks for being a fan and I hope at the least you'll give me a hate watch (or not. I mean @StealthyshiroeanHumbleReviews puts out a good video too, so check him out. )
Kinglink, I love your monthly reviews. You're a creator that always delivers but my dude, I feel like you're too harsh on the High on life, Rick and Morty type of humor and robbing yourself of the experience. If a couple (well, a lot) of jokes put you on a bad mood, bro... the game isn't the problem, you are. The inability to enjoy even some aspects of a 'mediocre' game isn't a reflection on the game but on the player. My two cents, as always wishing you the best
Dude, they literally had to patch in an option to reduce the dialogue because so many people were complaining about it. This isn't a one-person problem. It's a major issue with the game.
High on Life have a very specific humor, and for someone that doesn't like, it can get annoying really fast, i understand his point, even liking the game.
Unfortunately, a comedy game lives 100% on whether the comedy lands with a person. If you don't like the style of humor in that game then the other systems aren't going to make you like it. It's like they say - you can make the best seafood dish in the world, but it will always fail if your audience hates fish.
Well said, mrJLJ66. And I know that pain as well. My wife hates seafood, so I can't cook it. I put an anchovey into a sauce once, and when she found out she said it ruined the meal. Lol. And Kevin, just as a point I put in 2+ hours on it on Game Pass, and still didn't enjoy myself. I didn't rob myself of the experience, I already went through it. Problem is the style of humor never ends, and nothing else really stood out. (ok the graphics were vibrant but not to the point that I'd turn off the sound to look at the game).
@@Kinglink I mean, you and mrJLJ66 are right. In a comedy game all that counts is if the comedy lands for you. Honestly I kinda liked it enough to play though the entire game but honestly... I was blasted on the devil's lettuce and don't plan on ever playing it again. I still feel you where being a little too harsh, but understandable, is a matter of taste and for this game you gotta have a couple neurons not working to enjoy it
Dude, weak review on High On Life. So you don't like the Rick and Morty humor, but all you said was gameplays sucks and you didn't even show any actual FPs footage. Why is the gameplay bad exactly? Your worst take on any game, any I watch your Humble reviews every month.
DONT PLAY DILUVIAN ULTRA!!!!!. Please everyone who gets this game dont play it. It is an early access game without the game. You can get softlocked and not even be able to play the game.
