      I think one of the good things about this demand is that Sakura can be the shoulder for the leader to lean on. I think it's one of the reasons Chaewon and Sakura are so close. Chae knows she has someone to go to with her troubles. Sakura not being Korean might be an additional factor when it comes to difficult or complex issues that maybe some cultural differences might make it even harder than a KR person to deal with.

    • @snehaswati

      Honestly the group was built around Sakura and chaewon, they were trying to recruit minju as well but she rejected the offer, it would make sense that they would take their requests into consideration because the amount of fame they brought to the group was probably non negotiable, now I'm really glad Lesserafim has created their own name and every member is equally popular, honestly very surprising for a 1 year old group! But hats off to Hybe and Lesserafim for having great synergy!

      @@atheistium they are also close because they were in a group together before le sserafim but as chaewon became the leader both of them got even closer since they were together Izone and went through the disbandment together. Imagine losing a member to suicide like Jonghyun and Onew of SHINee was hauled back into the limelight after being on hiatus that year. How is any leader prepared for that? How will they handle it? Do they stay together or do they leave the company? Which is the best decision for the group and honoring the fallen member? If you ask me Onew had the toughest challenge that any leader can face. He was facing a firing squad of public opinion and his own feelings of grief, loss, and helplessness not only as a leader but as a person. He was suffering with depression and anxiety as well. He felt exacty the same way these leaders feel except he faced a worst-case scenario nobody wants. Then again the leader is as strong as the people he carries. It means the other members have to step up to support him and share the burden so it's not all on him. They don't want to see their leader crumble. Any group feels the same when they see their leader struggling.

    • @LADYSILVERWOLF028
      @LADYSILVERWOLF028 Год назад +34

      Well said. Onew had an impossible situation. I think SHINee came through the other side of an insurmountable loss because they were able to lean on each other. Minho once said rather than stand in front of us, Onew comes into the middle and supports them. I have a lot of respect for all the leaders but especially our Tofu leader Onew. ❤

    • @Vgudorf
      @Vgudorf Год назад +14

      So, so, true! When I read the title of this vid, Onew was who I instantly thought of. I’ve been a SHAWOL almost from the beginning and watched SHINee’s evolution closely. I could tell our JinKi was often uncomfortable with his role as leader, and sometimes even caught grief from the other members over his leadership. SHINee are extremely close now, but that wasn’t always the case.
      I think he often felt burdened by all that was demanded of him, which is why he used alcohol to escape the sense of crushing responsibility. SHINee was one of the KPop groups known to be squeaky clean, and devoid of any serious scandal until JinKi himself broke that record by causing an incident in a club while blitzed out of his mind on alcohol. There was a lawsuit, and calls by some “fans” for him to leave the group, and ultimately, he was forced to take a long hiatus and disappear from the public. When Junghyun died, he was forced to return under the worst circumstances ever. I remember us all being shocked by his appearance at the funeral, and it made me want to cry for him.
      It must have been soul crushing, the sense of responsibility he felt over Jonghyun’s passing, which is why he later admitted on television that he wouldn’t allow himself to cry because he felt he didn’t deserve to. He probably felt he failed as a leader by not being there for one of the members when they needed him the most. But, he put his own needs aside to help navigate the uncertainty that followed, and help determine if they would continue as a group or fall to the wayside. All the members admitted having to go to counseling to overcome the grief of losing Jong, but I was most afraid JinKi wouldn’t be able to endure it.
      Thankfully now, he’s managed to come out the other side, stronger and wiser than before, able to stand in the spotlight and remain SHINee’s leader. He said recently that he now feels he deserves the success he’s receiving as a solo artist, which means he felt undeserving for a very long time! No doubt, it’s one of the reasons he didn’t release a solo album before Jong’s passing, even though SHAWOLS were very vocal in calling for he to do so. I’m SO proud of him, and my heart swells with relief and thankfulness. He’s walked through the refiner’s fire, and emerged, shining and golden.

      Onew's leadership qualities shine brightly both pre and post Jonghyun's passing. Pre-tragedy, he showcased exceptional guidance, unity, and support within SHINee, fostering a strong bond among members and fans alike. Post-Jonghyun, Onew's strength in navigating challenges with grace and resilience further solidified his role as a pillar for the group, inspiring hope and perseverance. His sincerity, humility, and unwavering dedication make him a beacon of leadership in both triumph and adversity.

    Suho is still there as one of the best leaders. Losing members, getting scolded for standing up and the hate for not being able to keep EXO as EXO. He has basically taken the role of the members' mom. Just because Suho doesn't put his worries out, doesnt mean that he is relaxed all the time. When EXO debuted, Suho had to buy the member's food because SM was a shitty company who refused to do any sort of promotions (talk about Big3 privilege now). They had to hold up banners asking people to come to their fanmeet and gheir stages. Imagine what Suho went through. When he left for military, the members themseleves said how difficult it was for Suho and he deserved a break.

    I respect all the leaders. But this guy, really went through some hardest shit. As a trainee, he was all of a sudden told that he would be the leader, the pampered youngest kid of his family suddenly become the one with the most responsibility, his best friend at that time betrayed him affecting him mentally and emotionally, his company had a record of fucking up their groups with their mismanagement so the pressure to keep everything together was ten times bigger, SVT was doing everything from producing to choreographing to promoting in variety shows themselves and HE WAS IN CHARGE to monitor it all as the leader. He took all the pressure alone silently until he broke and had a severe anxiety attack in the middle of their concert in 2019, and STILL, this man always puts on a smile for his members and fans. He has never ONCE complained about his role as a leader even if it was so hard for him. What's sad is HE DOESN'T GET ENOUGH APPRECIATION HE DESERVES.
    I hope you get all the happiness in the world SCOUPS. WE LOVE YOU.

    • @ShiiiJie13
      @ShiiiJie13 Год назад +15

      @shehrbano This person should be Jang Doyoon, he was the same age as Coups & they trained together with Nu'est members, but didn't make the final cut & was moved to debut as another group with Woozi & 2 more trainees in this group called Tempest. But the plan didn't go through & they were shifted to Seventeen.
      It was said that Seventeen was supposed to have 17 members, & they started SeventeenTV. Pledis was doing badly that time, at the cusps of bankruptcy, so the debut plans was always pushed back & the members really suffered a lot to trained & the future seems bleek. But Coups & Doyoon being the oldest 2 members stuck together, was very close, went to school together & took care of the younger members. So everyone thought that since Doyoon was slightly older, he would be the leader when they debut. Yet in 2014, Doyoon left pledis & the reason he gave was that he wanna pursue acting, which he was more passionate in rather than being an idol. After he left Coups have to take up the mantel as leader and all, I read online comments mentioning before that him leaving is not because he wanted to act, but he sees no future in Seventeen & Pledis with the debut date kept being pushed back, & the company is going burst so he chose to leave instead.
      So it was like a betrayal towards Coups, when they have stuck together for so long. I heard there's even a song written by the members to diss Doyoon too, but I'm unsure about this though. Doyoon says he doesn’t regret leaving the group, because acting is what he wanted to do, but it wasn't fully believed by people as back in 2017 he did try to audition for MIXNINE with another Seventeen pre-debut member MingMing , but he was rejected & MingMing passed the audition.
      I hope my explanation is correct, I'm only a 3 year carat so I tried to understand as much as I could, from what I read online & past videos. 🙈

    I'm surprised you didn't mention Ryu Sera. She was the leader of Nine Muses (9MUSES, Namyu) at debut (2010), but was demoted when she struggled with the agencies desire to have the members (including those still in high school) wear garter belts during the MV filming for "No Playboy". Ultimately, all of the members did wear the garter belts, but Sera's multiple breakdowns during the shoot resulted in her demotion. There were other factors including her inability (in the companies eyes) to wrangle in the other members and keep them from acting up; as well as the company being unable to recognize that the lack of instant success for the group was their own fault; not the individual members.
    Given the hardships she had to endure, the poor treatment from the agency (Star Empire), and, to an extent, her demotion, she left the group/company in 2014.

    It’s Bang Chan from SKZ and Soyeon from (G)I-DLE for me. One of them was given the opportunity to put his own group together, but then I’m sure there was a ton of pressure on him to see if the experiment would succeed. He kept them together after Woojin left and still runs himself ragged writing, producing, performing, and taking care of his members, even though he’s been dealing with his own health problems for quite a while.
    I love all the (G)I-DLE girls but Soyeon has been the creative driving force since the beginning-she comes up with concepts, writes songs, produces, etc. (although I know that other members, especially Yuqi, have contributed to songwriting more recently). She also not only kept the group together after Soojin (who was beloved by her members) was unceremoniously removed, she steered the group towards even greater success, which is pretty impressive, all while still being that creative driving force.
    Are either of them perfect/have either of them not made any mistakes? Of course not, they’re human. But they’re definitely my favorite leaders.

    I think the leader position is honestly a waste as it puts too much stress on one member to lead them all to success. You make an excellent case, because in the end, the appointed “leader” don’t really call the shots anyway. It’s the company management > then the staff who make decisions. An example of the second part of your point is Loona’s Haseul. She along with two others (Kim Lip & Yves) are touted as the leaders of their own subunits, so really the burden would be divided into thirds (though Haseul is technically leader of Loona as a whole, i like to believe her, KL and Yves see eye-to-eye)

I am sure all the Kpop Leaders will be feeling the same, no matter how much hardships we have to go through but if the members are happy that is what all it matters... all those hardships will be worth it.

    A leadership role is important that it can be a hit or miss for the group. Some groups would actually would have been better off without a leader. Especially smaller groups with members close in age. It's nice to see more agencies exploring that as well like what Blackpink had and now in Newjeans. Ultimately when a company appoints a leader, with that responsibility also comes a lot of opportunities especially when the company is building up the image of that member as a leader - they are usually also given the chance to do more solo stuff which helps their personal growth and brand outside the group. And those opportunities are not avaialble for the rest of the members. It's really important to appoint a leader who can step up and do the job else, it might be better also for the company to just not appoint one. Big groups (more than 5) or those with large age range especially minors and adults debuting together definitely need one tho.
