I've been rocking a gen-2 Leatherman Wave since 2005 and I still think it's the most perfect multi-tool for me. I do a ton of fishing, so the pliers, scissors and knife are very handy for that. I've used the bit driver countless times, and I wear glasses, so the eyeglass driver has saved me a few times. I also use the file to sharpen hooks, and the can opener doubles as my bottle opener. I've used the saw and the large flathead the least, but they've seen their share of duty, too. It's the one EDC item I feel naked without.
@@toddguillory692 My grand father gave me a Side Clip when they first came out for my 12th b-day. Still have it, but I use the Super Tool 300 now. The Wave is great too.
@@toddguillory692 It might be the perfect model. I retired it from use after he passed. I've thought about getting another one, but I already have too many options.
@@funkymunky6971These Tools are awesome. I’m not a big fan of the free series or the Arc for that matter. Hopefully there will always be options for the updated versions of the old style
I have a lot of multitools and a lot of them are Leatherman. I have the original PST and PST2 as well as the sideclip and the one with the corkscrew, the one that folds twice. I have a lot of the more modern ones as well. Since I travel a lot to differnt countries and countries have different laws I like the ones that don't have the one hand opening or some tools on the outside but have all tools inside the handle. That way foreign police won't see it as a weapon. Sometimes locking blades are illegal. I think Leatherman really did a great job with the Rebar that has the saw and file and locking tools for outdoor use and the Bond that's pretty similar to the original PST for town carry. And the Rebar and Bond fit the same sheath for belt carry.
As you mentioned the Kick doesn't have locking blades. All these could take a pocket clip they used to sell, probably most practical on the Kick or Fuse. All these can take a bit holder that slides over square shaped Phillips screwdriver and I think they still sell those. I like having integral screwdrivers and the ability to use bits too rather than no option for bits or just having a bit driver. These were all good units and I've owned all of them at one time. They don't get much love but they were all high quality tools if you accept the format of all tools on the inside and I think they are slimmer and lighter for what you get than some of the newer ones that go big. I guess the new Bond is sort of like the Kick an economy model of good quality and the Rebar is sort of like the Blast. The Fuse is like the Kick with scissors but remember you get locks on all tools but it's still slimmer and lighter than the Blast.
My grandfather bought me one of these models back in 2006 and it came with a nylon punch instead of leather I remember breaking the pliers part and threw them away are you wanting to sell one of these? Mine was the kick, I just remembered. 🤣🤣
The multi tool I carry every day is the Leatherman Micra. We’ve had it for forever, (probably since it came out, it says patent pending on it) and a couple years ago I needed a keychain and it was the perfect size and weight. The scissors are extremely useful and I’ve actually use the Philips head to fix my car a couple times.
My wife got me the blast along time ago and absolutely love it. Also if the knife bothers you blocking the finger grooves if you flip it over you dont feel it. The only down side is it's not hard to lose the micro screw driver bit lol.
I have the Leatherman Blast which had belonged to my late father. I love all of the tools and have used most of them. I also have a Leatherman Charge+ TTi and a Leatherman Bond with a pocket clip accessory. I keep my Blast and Charge+ TTi in sheaths on my belt and my Bond in my pocket with the pocket clip.
I had all 3. Didn't like the kick because it didn't lock. Gave it away. Broke the screw driver on the Blast, my bad. Sent it into leatherman and they sent back a wave. Awesome. I carry the fuse in my daily backpack. I wanted a file and a mini screw driver, so i took them off an old pst and removed a couple spacers to add them in. It's now a blast without the saw.
I turned the small flat blade on my fuse into an awl which I really wish they had, other than that it was always as much as I needed. At work it did everything, it's been beat to hell and keeps on ticking. 16 years later it's as solid as ever and buttery smooth. Don't forget that the fuse is a little slimmer than the blast, I wanted a blast I thought but handled one and the fuse feels better in my hand. I would have gotten used to it if there was an awl instead of that precision driver.
Hey Jeff I have an old leatherman I got years ago when I was younger. My buddy found it in an abandond boat. It's called the Leatherman SideClip and I belive it was their first one to have a pocket clip. It has bass pro shop laser engraved on the side and is very basic. Have you seen one of these before? They are hard to find online and I wanted to know more. Hope you have a good day!
I carry A leatherman Surge full kit ie the bits and ratcheting bit extender as well as other tools on my belt I feel to added weight for the ablities my kit gives me is worth it . The leatherman Free P4 not having the bit tool is a big reason why I have not gotten one yet
I use the leatherman wave + and have no problem using the Pliers to the point the frame is bending on the tool without it being uncomfortable, I don’t understand the point of the grooves
Curiosity. Who carries these? I think they are good thrown in a glovebox of a car. But as a pocket tool it seems like alot of stuff i wouldnt use. I like having a knife, but any tools that are combined are usually junk and can not replace a real tool. Im not hating on the tool itself or anyone who uses them, just dont understand the value.
Ive had a kick of best part of 20 years, its clearly an entry level but a fantastic small none complicated tool for around the farm and home ,its also still legal to carry in the uk with its small blade. I now use the surge that is purly for work, and is against the law to carry with out a viable reson in the UK, i know nut but thats what leftie governments do. However both tools now are surgicaly connected to my hip, and whether at work or play, i would rather not have a body part than not have my leatherman. 😮

Check out the side clip Discontinued can be found on eBay..

One in good condition on eBay goes from 75.00 - 125.00.
All three are discontinued since around 2012 - Rebar filled their role. I keep several Blasts around for survival kits and everyday carry aswell.
Why does Leatherman have such a habit of discontinuing all of their most useful tools?

I still an original leatherman that I got when I was in the Navy. I think it is over 30 years old. Still works like a champ!
Leatherman Kick with pocket clip. Awesome setup, part of my EDC..

I had a Blast which I used quite alot, but I lost it. Now I have a Surge:)
I’ve got the Fuse (bladeless). I like it. Carried it for years, with a good pocketknife
a cool option for teens in school

I've had one of those in bright orange 🍊 i think I've still got it somewhere thanks for sharing your thoughts on those
I was going to get a Leaherman Wingman but got a Nextool Flagship Pro instead. Cheaper with fantastic scissors just a bit on the heavy side.
I carry the Surge with the hard cutter jaw inserts, or a SOG Power lock and I use them. Fishing, fixing...outdoors.. No messing around
The surge is a monster. I got a black one and love it
The Kick is slip joint. The Fuse tools lock, also the scissors.
I have the kick!! I’m so happy your doing a review
I carry a Wave + with a swapped in S30V blade day to day, but this series is awesome for cars and kits due to how cheap they can be picked up on ebay
I bought a blast becsuse it had all the tools the wave had for half the price. I carry a crunch daily though.

Have the fuse. Good tool for the weight. Better than the skeletool in my opinion. We own many leatherman and the 2 victorinox mt's.
SAK Yeoman and Leatherman Mini combo, sadly both discontinued...
Great video as always my dude. Blast all the way out of these 3 IMHO. Im a Signal every day carrier
A wave is my choice!
The fuze also had locking tools the kick doesnt
