My mom passed away last November at 57, and my father in law just had a heart scare at 63. All of it really put life in perspective for me. I’m only 23 and I want to experience a lot of life. I have to quit hating myself into losing weight and start loving myself into taking care of myself with both food and movement. With that being said, I know I need to be gentle with myself. Lastly, I just want to say thank you for being so vulnerable with us. ❤

You have inspired me! I know unsolicited advice is the worst but, just remember that motivation waxes and wanes but discipline is what will get you to your goals. Action is what creates motivation and good feelings, you won’t always feel motivated. And I find the gym to be an inspiring atmosphere, full of people working for their goals.

I decided that this year us THE YEAR!
I'm 55 and have had MS for almost 20 years as well as Grave's disease. Although my weight is fine and I have no disability, I noticed that my muscles were definitely weak.
I blamed it on my illnesses and decided to go to Physical Therapy over the summer. Well, THAT was quite an awakening!! Turns I was just sitting around too much! 😂
After PT, I joined a gym and started slow. I now go 3 times per week, and I'm getting stronger by the day.
Even if I happen to miss a day here or there, or don't do as much as I want to, I still give myself a pat on the back for doing SOMETHING.
After all, doing SOMETHING is way better than doing nothing!!❤

I am going on 23 and in my post college as a first generation student in her figuring things out stage. With this, I’m also the highest weight I’ve ever been (due to stress and just accumulating to adulthood), so thank you for this I needed the body confidence/saying to move for fun versus cause I feel like I have too. I think a lot of us were in a dark night of the soul since 2020. Half-way through 2023, I started to let myself want and hope for things again, without fear of disappointment. At the end of 2023, I made roadmaps for 2024 for all the skills and hobbies I want to make progress in. So far, I've gotten more done in one month than I did from 2020-2022. It's encouraging to see so many people rise up from their dark nights as well!

I injured my foot in early january and started doing peloton pilates classes. It's a very gentle and low impact workout that I had previously avoided becasue it seemed very appearance/physique-based. I really love how strong I feel. Now that i'm healed i'm back into weightlifting and keeping pilates in the rotation to keep it fresh. Love seeing your journey, Carrie!

Weightlifting is absolutely amazing and completely changed my life. The increase in confidence and mood improvement is INSANE! I will say weightlifting in the gym took some time to get used to and I was definitely really insecure when I started, but just remember no one deserves to be there and use the equipment any more than you do. But now I love it and I’m always so proud of myself when I’m able to increase the weight.

I started weightlifting last year and the relationship I’ve created with my body is insane (in the best way). I struggled with an ED and body dysmorphia my whole life, but weightlifting has removed the aesthetic of my body for me. Now, I set goals like “I’d like to lift x amount of weight” and then when I do, I feel like such a badass bc I’m like damn, I can pick myself up!!! How cool is that!!!
Basically, it shifted my mind from what my body looks like to what my body can DO, and it’s helped me feel like such a badass now. It’s been so good.

Carrie! So excited for you beginning this journey ❤️❤️ I feel like I started at an actual deficit. I have old running injuries in my knees, and couldn't walk or stand for more than a few minutes at a time. I began with pilates and yoga, then moved into Barre & strength training with weights. Now I can hike OVER 6 MILES at a time! I live in a gorgeous area in the Northeast where the hiking is just too beautiful, and is a huge part of my spirituality. Honestly, I had convinced myself that I just "couldn't" exercise. I spent years on the couch throwing pity party after pity party for myself. Now I feel like a strong warrior woman with full command over my body.
For what it's worth, I think you're building a wonderful foundation and going about this in all the right ways. You have your "why" solidly in your head and a great perspective on things. Also, such a good idea to build some muscle and endurance at home first with no pressure. It will also help so much when you move into weight training, (which btw is like the most fun a girl can have IMO). I cannot emphasize enough the importance of stretching dynamically before the workout, and static stretching after. Especially with all the different types of workouts you're doing. It's a real necessity for longevity. Your body will start to quit on you and make you feel like you can't workout if you don't stretch properly over time. I learned a couple of yoga routines that work really well for me for before and after workouts. I also like to stretch a little more before bed, especially if my body is feeling tense. Better sleep will follow!
Major congrats on starting this journey of self-love! So happy for you!! ❤️❤️

Another 30s gal with ADHD here! I have really bad proprioception (sense of my body in space) and struggled for so so long to go out and just move. I have found that I need to book classes with a financial penalty for missing it to get moving as much as I want to. So, I joined a pilates studio! And being in that smaller studio space with a teacher that knows me and expects me to turn up has made a hugeeeeee difference! Now I can't deal with life without it. It helps my brain settle into the day and helps me connect with my body which I struggle with. I am like a little buzzing bee now if I don't start my day with a class or weights session. Though, big tip is to have your adhd meds at the bedside and on a little dish ready to swallow when you wake up, with a bottle you dont have to sit up to drink from. Means opening the pill bottle, getting the right amount, pouring water, etc, won't stop you in the morning and gets the meds in your body for the day. Been there, struggle with that. Good luck! 💃

I started doing strength training a couple years ago (via emkfit, who you tried doing Dance HIITs from in a previous video!) and I really enjoy it. I work out from home with hand weights, I just bought heavier ones as I needed them. It was so cool to watch myself progress to using heavier weights and having better form and then to see that translate to my daily life like having an easier time hauling my cats into the car or moving furniture. My best friend has asthma, and I got her into it as well because it's something where you can go at your own pace and really listen to your body. She always struggled with High Intensity/Cardio stuff when we would try those kinds of classes together, so it was wonderful to see her thrive in a workout and marvel at what she could do.

Hi Carrie! I’ve had an iffy relationship with both movement and food, and I recently got a PCOS diagnosis at the end of last year. This year, I started to not only move my body more, but also eat foods that nourish both my body and mind. I’m not doing any kind of restrictions or anything like that, but just trying to make myself feel better and getting some energy since that’s something that I haven’t had in awhile. Although the diagnosis is new to me and still confusing, just like you I’m starting things off a bit slower and also doing more things with thinking about myself as a whole, not with a certain image or end goal in mind.

My partners both got me into weight training, and I've been pretty consistent with that, but I also wanna get into running again and playing sports. (I played basketball and did track in HS). During the summer my husband and his buddies will play football and I wanna get into that as well.

Have you considered physical theatre? It's such a lovely way to express yourself tell a story and exercise at the same time - you dance too but to more story appropriate dances like the dance in barbie? I think it is really good for the creative mind and body 😊

I typically do yoga once a week, but last week I went to a dance fitness class instead and I had SO MUCH FUN it might have changed my life lol… I’m going to try to do it ever single week and I’ve even convinced some coworkers to come with me!

I really found that what helps me is finding and exercise that you like. Like for me I hate cardio but love lifting weights. Im no muscle mommy by any means lol I only go 3 days a week right now. I just wanna be strong as well! I do like Hiit workouts as well but my knees can’t take it. Also I highly recommend a gym buddy. I don’t think I’d go if it weren’t for my friend 😂 that’s something I need to work on though. I have social anxiety 🙃

You inspired me!! I have been moving my body a lot more now. Starting from going to pilates once a week to now going for pilates 3-4 times a week and boxing/spin classes for the days I don’t do pilates

I started by dragging my boyfriend or a friend to A LOT of physical beginner friendly pilates classes. Going with people I am comfortable with and giggling throughout the classes together with them and my instructors gave me strength to keep on going🥺

💪💪💪Unsolicited recommendation: Les Mills workouts are great if you get to a gym that has them.
Bodypump (weights), bodycombat (punching, kicking and feeling strong and fierce) and Les mills Dance (dance workouts that are a little more intense than Zumba and the like..)

Loved lifting weights, goodlife lesmills classes have a class called body pump and its weight lifting to music! It's fun, challenging and you can see the progress you're making in reps completed each class you complete. I don't think I could just walk into the gym and pick up some weights 😰
