I consider this my favorite Elvis Presley song, and I know he didn’t write it. But I think he may have sung the definitive version of the tune. He also went to extra efforts to be able to record it, which tells you something about what he believed in.
Elvis was an icon, I wasn't that in to him as a kid. But I'll never forget the day he died. My mom and I were playing Rummy or Cribbage, and my grandfather called to tell her about it. She cried so hard. I didn't really get it, at the time. You should check out "If I can Dream". Very moving and meaningful song.

My mother was a huge huge fan & he unfortunately died on my younger brothers 10th bday August 16 1977! Mother was baking a bday cake & me & my 3 brothers were playing Uno at the kitchen table when pops yelled from the living room that Elvis died & my mother just fell to the kitchen floor & cried like a baby! I remember watching his funeral procession a few days later going to Graceland, I cried ✌💖☮

Hi sweetheart. Now this is one awesome video. Elvis Presley. The man, the legend. My favourites story about him is he was to do a gig in Las Vegas at a certain hotel but because his three back up singers were black ladies, the casino refused them on stage and Elvis told the casino exactly where they could go. The casino then said okay to them coming in but they had to use the kitchen entrance and Elvis once again told them to shove it and blatantly told them that if his backup singers didn’t walk through the front door with him and the rest of the band he would not play at that casino ever again. Finally, the casino had to relent because they were sold out. It’s a true story and you can google it. LOL. The man was away ahead of his time and he didn’t tolerate discrimination even back then. Now I know why they call him the king. I’m going to have to get you some sequined kneepads. 😂. He was originally from Tupelo Mississippi and came from a very poor neighbourhood where most of his neighbours were black before his family moved to Memphis. It was in Tupelo that he learnt a lot of the ways of black music in those days and he even started dressing like them and when he got to high school, he was bullied and ridiculed by his peers because of the way he dressed and then he went on to be the most famous man in the world. Amazing how that works. If you give out good vibes then good vibes will find you. thank you so much for doing this video and putting another smile on my face as always. This song was written by a Texas panhandle county songwriter, Mac Davis.... he originally pitched it to Sammy Davis, Jr... who declined it and apparently said since he did not grow up poor he could not do it justice, he should pitch it to Elvis....
