As an old guy too fat and lazy to work on his car, i greatly enjoy getting home from work, smoking a bowl and watchin your chill demeanor do this shit.
Just like cars you gotta work on yourself guy keep up with maintenance so stretch and start exercising don't start too hard just go for a walk and do a little bodyweight workouts and stay consistent, next thing yk you'll be a fit old guy working on his car and watching the videos
First gen CRV is the perfect car 👌 i daily mine to work n back, run errands, pick up the kiddo, and i used it for UPS delivering packages filled up the back with the seats down. Love my CRV 🙌
@@Iamablackkid never lost, never raced anyone I know it's slow haha, still, they can be swapped relatively easy depending on choice. It is a manual though so it definitely isn't as boring as it could be 😄
@@Iamablackkid hey fwd ain't too bad, my CRV is awd, they're a beast in the snow with some snow tires, I'm sure fwd with snows would be fine too, my old accord civic and del sol were all good with blizzaks, plus you can rip the ebrake if you need 😁
It's very good that you tell people not to do as you do concerning brake discs and pads. Some people don't understand how dangerous it can be if you don't know what you're doing, getting the wrong junk parts. It's still a car and it's still something that needs to be respected as being a deadly thing. Big respect to you for this series and the lessons you teach, man!
i always love when people use junkyard parts to fix their car, its cheap-ish, cool, and just to feel lucky when you find what you need. keep up the great videos
I'm surprised you didn't do the wheel bearings from how rusted it came out of the junkyard. It might've also saved you from shaving the knuckle to put in the wheel stud.
yeah, would have for sure just popped the bearing. same reasoning for the axle replacement, its 20+ years old, just grab some new ones and then it's so much easier to do the stud replacement cuz the hub is out. pop it on the vice and bang em out with a sledge. ive done well over a hundred hubs that way
Even though i know how to do all this, i like watching these vids cause you could learn something new. I never stop to think to use a jack stand to hold the brake caliper up! Awesome journey with the Civic and thanks for the new trick!
I was gonna say, when you were at the junk yard having a portable impact would have saved you a ton of time. Best purchase i made for working on my truck was when i finally went away from pneumatic to the battery impact.
I’m Kevin too 🤙🏽 Got a 04 sedan. So far just got all the missing pieces like the dome light and driver side sun visor. Also replaced the valve cover gasket and installed a front suspension rebuild kit. So far only mods are a coupe grille and a cheap exhaust tip I has lying around. Thanks for the inspiration and to keep modding especially from the junkyard
This is one of the most hardcore episodes, the way you put the new studs, WOW. I love the salad parts that you make to improve the brake system. Good luck in the wheels episode. Congrats from Brazil
@kushindaswisher3571 As a former tech myself, it’s not uncommon in shops. Either it comes in w a messed up lug stud, or somebody makes an oopsie. Wham bam, new stud. Vs the correct replacement method: replace the wheel bearing - and you just saw all the work he had to do to remove the knocker….thats just step 1 for the wheel bearing. Both for the shop and the customer it’s way cheaper, faster, and easier and you don’t run into other issues like messing with rusted/seized/broken axle, ball joints, tie rods, etc.. Done it both ways, in a pinch this is what you do, get it out the door or your drive and on the road.
Couple tips that’s helped me out….when at a JY and you need to get a rusty bolt or in your case an axle…Brake fluid works as a great substitute for penetrating oil…also..if you can toss the new ball joint into the freezer for a lil bit and then heat the knuckle with a torch and sometimes the ball joint will just fall in.
Lol watching this video and funny you mentioned the CRV table, never knew they existed then worked at a car wreckers and saw it, got 2 at home now from working there for free
I need to start using your videos as a reward for doing my school without getting distracted or for doing an unholy amounts of exercise. Keep up the good work, Kevin
another nice thing to have handy when dealing with cotter pins especially when they're corroded is a set of punches a couple different ball peen hammers and a torch
Cool finds! I just did this exact brake swap to my EG but where I am in Canada junkyards don't really let you pull your own parts so I ended up buying new parts on rockauto. Cost more but the wheelwell is so clean now...
Tips: 6:53 - Take a 3/8" extension, put the socket end on the screw and hit the other side with a hammer. This shocks the corrosion into loosening. Then you can usually easily take it off with a screw driver by hand. 22:50 - Keep the axle nut on the threads of the axle, and hit against that. It gives you more clearance to hit it hard with a big hammer and it wont mess with denting up the axle end.
Bro with the amount of work you done for the build series with the continuous work effort and research for the build, you earn my respect bro ✊🏽 I’m currently working on my 05 G35 sedan that I picked up from a copart auction $2k and these series are really giving me all the motivation to continue working on my car to meet up the standards as a daily driver! Much love from Hawaii 🤙🏽🤙🏽
Quick tip for you bro, if you find your self with rusted on nuts, take some brake fluid out the reservoir n use that as penetrating fluid. Had gotten me out of a jam plenty of times!
I love this channel. I feel like bro smokes a j before recording the voiceovers. Super chill. Also, he’s saving the environment one junk part at a time.
Brakes are important! I know there's a company that makes a shim for the mini rotors as they have bigger lug holes then our hondas. Legit vid as usual, keep up the good work!
as i said in a previous video, greets from italy mate. keep up your work, we all like to see the good old videos from known channels spend thousands on shiny parts, but what we all like to do the most, is junkyard tuning. affordable, effective, satisfactory OT: love that maplestory background theme, brings me back to my 14's EDIT: as soon as i've seen you install those brakes my first thought was " will the miata 14" daisies still fit?" quick answe, i was right. HELL NAW
just a quick tip, don't use the wratchet to break loose big bolts, especially with a extension bar, they break the teeth in the wratcheting mechanism. I use a breaker bar and extention or in a pinch i put one spanner on the bolt and using the open end of second spanner i pull from the ring on the first to create leverage.
I remember making the same mistake when I was younger, youd think the junkyard route would save you money but it usually ends up being more expensive and taking more time lol depending on the part of course. Love the vids bro!
bro, i love these, but what a rollercoaster ride this episode! personally, i would have probably just let it go with 3 studs, or just take the thing apart instead of angle grinding the whole area, lol. very very cool episode still lol
Great job on that brake setup man sorry you couldn't find that folding table you were looking for when my brother and I went and found a drive shaft for my truck we actually the CR-V folding table play in the process of getting the drive shaft out we ended up bending it all the crap
GE8 Honda fit has the same issue with the lug studs. Easiest thing is grinding a notch into the knuckle so that the new studs slip through into the hub. Also just started watching this series today, pretty cool.
In the future if you have a stuck CV axle like that put it back on the car except for the upper ball joint and try to use the air hammer to get it out. If that doesn't work screw the nut on until it is even with the end of the shaft and give it a couple good whacks with a hammer, it'll come out.
Flip the castle nut over, thread it on crown side down. Line the stud up with the nut, and dead blow hammer until it breaks free. This is my method and have only been unsuccessful twice. (On really really rusty cars)
You can put the all wheel drive set up from the crv onto the civic and make it all wheel drive and get all 4 wheels traction that would be cool I believe it bolts right up because the floor pan and constuction of the bottom of the car is just a civic that’s what they started with when Honda was trying to think of a driveline for the crv
G'afternoon Kevin ☕☕ 🤠 . Sometimes 💩 happens, things get more $ & take longer than expected. But in the end you still get the job done and it still feels pretty damn good 🙃 ..
another tip for anyone who cares. when hammering something with threads try and get a nut with the correct thread pitch a couple spins on before hammering. that way all the impact in on the nut and not the top of the threads and you could preserve them. I'm just a driveway tech so what do i know lol
ive done this swap on my civic with willwoods brakes id advise you buy shims for the rotors so its not just sitting on the hub and the lugs by 1320 i think i made my own since i didnt wanna pay and your gonna need 15x8 wheels maybe a 15x7 will work with shaving the calipers like how i had too so id say just buy 15x8s and you should be fine good luck
