  • Dixie Chicks performing "Not Ready to Make Nice" from the album 'Taking the Long Way' live on the Late Show with David Letterman on 22 May 2006.
    LYRICS:
    Forgive, sounds good
Forget, I'm not sure I could
    They say time heals everything
    But I'm still waiting
    I'm through with doubt
There's nothing left for me to figure out
I've paid a price, and I'll keep paying
I'm not ready to make nice
I'm not ready to back down
I'm still mad as hell, and I don't have time
To go 'round and 'round and 'round
It's too late to make it right
    I probably wouldn't if I could
    'Cause I'm mad as hell
Can't bring myself to do what it is
    You think I should
    I know you said
Why can't you just get over it?
It turned my whole world around
    And I kinda like it
I made my bed, and I sleep like a baby
With no regrets, and I don't mind saying
    It's a sad, sad story
When a mother will teach her daughter
That she ought to hate a perfect stranger
    And how in the world
Can the words that I said
Send somebody so over the edge
That they'd write me a letter
    Saying that I better
    Shut up and sing
Or my life will be over?
I'm not ready to make nice
I'm not ready to back down
I'm still mad as hell, and I don't have time
To go 'round and 'round and 'round
It's too late to make it right
    I probably wouldn't if I could
    'Cause I'm mad as hell
Can't bring myself to do what it is
    You think I should
I'm not ready to make nice
I'm not ready to back down
I'm still mad as hell, and I don't have time
To go 'round and 'round and 'round
It's too late to make it right
    I probably wouldn't if I could
    'Cause I'm mad as hell
Can't bring myself to do what it is
You think I should, what it is you think I should
    Forgive, sounds good
Forget, I'm not sure I could
    They say time heals everything
    But I'm still waiting

It was never a right or wrong thing. They were nieve to think saying what she said would go over smoothly considering the majority of their fan base were strong Bush supporters. She should have known what would happen but I think she just wasn't smart. If she was a hip hop singer it wouldn't have been an issue at all.

@@jeffwilkinson1307 _Naive_ of you to think that these women didn't know what the consequences of their actions would be. They just thought their integrity was more important than shilling to people who supported a bogus war, even if that meant losing fans. They literally say it in the song, she made her bed and she sleeps like a baby.

I'm not ready to make nice
I'm not ready to back down
I'm still mad as hell, and I don't have time
To go 'round and 'round and 'round
It's too late to make it right
    I probably wouldn't if I could
    'Cause I'm mad as hell
Can't bring myself to do what it is
You think I should, what it is you think I should
    Forgive, sounds good
Forget, I'm not sure I could
    They say time heals everything
    But I'm still waiting

How times have changed. Right now it’s frowned upon to support the President.

They say time heals all wounds. I disagree. I think we just get better at dealing with the things we have no power to change.

How many guitars do you need to perform a simple, lame song like this. Jeeezus n they're all mediocre players. Overkill maybe?

Looking beyond the message, I don't know why people like this song. It's poorly written lyrically, and even more poorly performed musically. I suppose if you agree with someone's politics you're willing to accept pure trash as art because that's where this production belongs.
