Just a theory! It feels like to me that she probably has some sort of personality disorder, the "evil" side of her had committed the murder, to which she had no idea. She had tried protesting against the murder charge that she "didn't" commit because she didn't know she had this evil side(maybe she did, but she didn't think it would do this). OR she could be schizophrenic and had listened to the voice in her head.
