Looks like a nice couple of days. Those evening and morning views were amazing! I always smile when I see people review the US MRE's. I remember us getting them in Iraq thinking they were great at first but after a fortnight or so we all found them a bit rich to be eating daily and were glad to get back on uk ration packs. I think really all of these are best enjoyed just for a day or two.
Nice to see the Rab Raider bivvy tent in use on Deacon Hill. The Rab seems an excellent choice and blends in with the environment, which I know is important. Breathable, expensive, but a good bivvy set up. Keep the vids coming, Tom!
Give it a try mate, it's well worth it. Not as difficult as you may think. Beach camps are the easiest and best in my opinion. Thanks for watching mate, much appreciated!
Nice spot Tom! A rather dramatic intro :D Big fan of mres myself. Very useful and much like you said before somewhat fascinating, in a nerdy way, to see what's in all the different versions /menu options
What a great video Tom, new sub here and I really appreciate these films you make. Another thumbs up for the classical music, fits the bonny English scenery perfectly. You've got me wanting to solo wild camp, and I'm thinking of up in the Northern Lakes or Galloway area. That Rab bivi looked great but can't decide whether to go the bivi or the solo tent route. Anyway seems no end to the English sunny Summer days this year so keep the wild camps coming.
Inspiring stuff mate, and wonderful videography. I'm trying to get the balls together to do this. Had a couple of cardiac arrests in the last two years and life has been tough, I'm determined to get a handle on things and crack on. My wife isn't over fussed on ground camping and my kids are at an age where they are starting to struggle breathing the same air. Getting a bivvy may well be the answer. Really enjoying working back through your videos, a great vibe and positivity to your approach that is missing from the grand majority of stuff out there. More power to you. Take care bud.
where are you roughly based mate? keep in touch, if your'e not too far away, we can organise a wild camp together and get you out there if you want! coastal camps are the easiest to get away with and the views are amazing, there's something peaceful about sleeping on a beach beside the sea. thank you for the kind words mate, much appreciated! hope you enjoy the channel. atb Tom.
TOM OUTDOORS so gutted I didn't see this response till now, apologies mate really appreciate you getting back to me. I totally get your point about sleeping by the sea its a soothing sound and the air is top quality. Would absolutely love to do a meet etc but unfortunately I'm in North Wales. I also fear at my current fitness id be something of a drag but I'm working on it in the gym with the cardiac team twice weekly. Maybe I'll be able to get down that way at some stage. Is there any links or tips you could point me to for a good way in gear wise? I fear most of my stuff is too chunky and old school. Cheers and apologies again for the delayed response.
Well done and keep going with the cardiac rehab work mate, they do wonders, we run a similar thing in the gym where I work. Look at your big 3 items first, rucksack, shelter, sleeping gear, and look to cut those down first in weight. find multiple uses for items and test your gear out regularly, making lists and discarding things you didn't use. I've never been a fan of giving out advice, but I'm getting asked more and more for it now, so I think it's time I started doing a few videos like that. Hope this helps mate.
TOM OUTDOORS thank you really appreciate the pointers. Yeah the cardiac rehab team are brilliant really helpful. Been through it a couple of times now due to the multiple incidents. Can't say enough good about them. Was thinking back after watching some of your other vids there is a Roc post not far from me though apparently it's been stripped. Also you might find another local site interesting, Rhydymwyn underground munitions and mustard gas production facility. My gran and grandfather worked there. It's a wonder I don't glow in the dark. All the best mate
Nice one Tom, what a super vista to wake up to eh! U.S. spag bol I thought was good too & the choc pud, if your pals have different menus then swap around the goodies, keeps everyone happy (well most times haha) Cheers.......Les
if the frh doesn't work well adding the salt to it when you add the water helps it kick off, I used one to heat up the main when I reviewed some foreign rations including the Canadian ration I did this past Saturday
Hi, Tom amazing vid dude some lovely views love our English old towns and our history. Would love to go there our selves but a long way for us. ATB A/S
great video, was just looking into this area and found your video, would you say this area is busy with walkers much or fairly quiet, looking for a spot for gear testing on a weekday night.
should be fine mate, people i encountered didnt bat an eyelid at wild camping, just get out there and do it. what can they do? just tell you to move on. beware of the sheep though! cheers.
timtim0007 you can get brand new OS explorer maps cheap on eBay and the books with the routes in that I mainly use are AA 50 walks books. Just look for the county you live in and do the routes and get all the relevant os explorer maps you need.
American food is allowed to have much worse stuff for colours and flavours... Can end up with some really odd tasting /looking stuff. Like the punch flavour mre beverage powder... Tastes like marzipan mixed with sherbet and maybe some bad cocaine... Or the grape powder which is violently purple and tastes like the smell of a cheap air freshener

Cheers mate. Yeah I only have them on camps and walks. It'd get expensive too!
Our British rat packs are far better mate. The US ones were ok for luxury items now and then.

Tom, the gum in US Army MREs is a laxative. If you can get a chicken an rice MRE do so, was one of my favorites.

Enough food to feed a small platoon Tom!

i used to drive past there everyday

P. S. The gum with red plastic is supposed to be cinnamon gum but just tastes weird and artificial
Conrad agreed!
