Based on what the media had said about Janet's marriage to Al Mana she was in a controlling marriage. Janet had a passion for performing on stage and this was limited to how she performed. I think she got tired of being controlled by her husband. She married him and started compromising the things she believed in, so much to the point that it made her life miserable in many areas. The more she compromised, the more he wanted her to, until she just couldn't/ wasn't willing to do it anymore. Going through the pregnancy, she thought things were going to get better, but he became even more controlling. She wasn't having it, so she left. I'm not saying she's right. Both of them are to blame for the breakup. She should have found out who she was getting before she married him, and he shouldn't have married her and tried to change her into someone that she had no desire to be. Lesson for both of them and hopefully both of them got it. Marry someone who is already the way you want them to be, and not who you hope they will become. Someone famous once said, and I wholeheartedly agree with them, "When someone shows you who they are, believe them.” Now they have a child together, to consider, and I hope they will put him first regardless of how they feel about each other.

While the movie the Color Purple was depictive of a fictional story telling, I don't doubt that those situations in that time/era was a reality for many girls and women. Young girls married off to old men when all they wanted was to go to school; women (mothers, daughters, sisters, etc) physically, sexually and psychologically abused. So, before any more negative comments are made about Muslim men this/that, remember to be Muslim is to follow a religion, like it is to be a Christian means to follow Christianity. Muslim men are no more cruel and horrible than many of your own Christian fathers, uncles, brothers, cousins, sons and husbands. The Bible reports "all have come short (of - to) the Glory of GOD!"

Janet is still dressing as if she has kept her conversion, when you marry a man who is born into islam, converting is an automatic when getting married…as someone who had a relationship with a man born into islam, if you are with that person for more than a year some of the adjustments you make seem to stick, if you break from that person, you tend to want to somewhat maintain the dress code, and respecting the position of your male partner as he is the protector and provider for the woman( however that has to in turn respect the woman as well), etc you realize the western culture is poison and we as women don’t need to wear clothes that sexualize our bodies,( not speaking of short sleeves or shorts that come right above the needs) but tight clothes that are designed to sexualize… tribes that are nomadic, where women wear very little clothing that’s not sexualize, the people minds have not been corrupted by the western mindset

I am so sorry to hear of this break of this marriage, but I am not surprised. I knew there would be some contention when it was announced she'd married this guy. It is more than a challenge for a western woman who is, educated, spiritually in-tune, psychologically driven, fiercely independent, with her own set of familial sensitivities and sensibilities, to marry a man that follows Islam to the letter. I am surprised to know she is the only wife he's "reportedly" to have or ever had and their child is his first, at his ripe old age of 40+. Part of me is on Wissam's side, Janet doesn't need to go back on the concert circuit, surely not for financial reasons, and sliding across a stage bumping and grinding at 50 years old, well, that too gets old, but I understand her as well. Show business is her life - her way of life. It's all she's known, some can say, it's the core of who she is; and frankly, it was "HER" family business. I'm sure he's known all of this, but while she was all 'goo-goo - ga-ga" in love for all the right reasons, he on the other hand was playing out in his head how she would behave towards him as a wife, mother and life long companion, and I'm so sure, doing her "thang" in Vegas, or anywhere else in scantly clad costumes, and singing about hoochie-coochie, was not going to fly with him nor his family/tradition/honor, which to a traditional Islam man is the BLOOD of existence. I pray for the sake of baby Eissa, these two stay very much connected, find a return to a path of love/connection with one another, and for this reason, they are awesome parents and the two do very, very well in life. They take the love for themselves their baby and one another as the "core" of their existence, and money and fame are simply conveniences, much like a dish washing machine. Nice to have, but not really necessary. Sometimes you gotta roll up your sleeves and get wet & dirty to restore health, balance and peace. Do the work Janet/Wissam because you two are worth it and so is Eissa. GOD-ALLAH will provide all else.
