CW Morse Practice Motivation Best Phone App
My tips and tricks for learning CW / Morse Code for ham amateur radio. There are many skills in this tutorial that I talk about in this video as well. It takes practice to get good and sending code on the radio.
CW software is going to help you get there also. You'll need a good CW Iambic Paddle as well. Continuous wave has many benefits. You'll want to reap these benefits when I teach you CW keying.
Learning Morse Code is not that hard. Now simply called "CW", radio communication by Morse code was the only way to communicate for the first decade or more of Amateur Radio. Radiotelegraphy, the proper name, descends from landline (wired) telegraphy of the 19th century, and retains some of the old culture, including a rich set of abbreviations and procedures. Morse sent by spark gap transmitter was the first wireless communication mode. These "damped waves" were very broad and inefficient for communication.

Great video. got the app. Getting back into cw after 25 yrs of not doing it at all and am finding very little activity compared to yesteryear. Seems everybody is on FT8. Back in the 70's, cw is all I did for many years with a straight key over 20wpm. Hopefully activity picks up. Not interested in contesting but SOTA and other activities can be fun. Been a QRPer most of my ham life, (40 yrs)

what a letdown; no activity? I don't have a working rx, so I wouldn't know that CW is dead. I am looking for a good app to learn CW again. This seems to be a good one. CW is not fun when working less than 20wpm; too labored. I haven't been on the air in almost 40 years. CW is all I did too. I am looking to learn CW again and get back on the air. Hope I am not wasting my time. I used a Vibroplex Original keyer. could copy abt 33 wpm solid. 20wpm is pushing it with a straight key. too uncomfortable IMO

Thanks but it looks like Android only. On the iPhone I really like Ham Morse - it has a lot of flexibility, letter groups, text sources, calls, QSO's, etc. Keep up the great work. I appreciate all the work you put into your channel. Charlie - K0CKH

I'd urge everyone to listen to Morse at least 20 wpm, from day one. Learn the sound, not the dits and dahs. Some people recommend listening to 30 wpm, with a much slower "effective speed." Go to LCWO.net.

You are right. Practice at higher speeds!

For people that don’t have android and have ios try MorseZapp. There is a free version but I would highly recommend paying for the full version. The full version gives you listening practice which is what I struggle the most on. It also has other little games to get you to recognize q codes and call signs. 73s KD9CYW
