Dude the crowd behind the stage getting down around 8:15-9:00 is almost surreal to watch. Something about this video quality makes it look so chaotic and ethereal. Fuck yea
Trey's tone in late 99 was untouchable. Those heady, filtered out solos he was playing December>big cypress have imprinted onto my soul. So fucking cool. This one sounds like went gin had a baby with the cypress sand. Pretty cool baby imo.
It’s my first time hearing this version. I was there at 11/22/97 - amazing night. These two long Halley’s jams have very different set placements. 11/22/97 had an even spacier vibe. It was the set opener, as opposed to this one which appeared later in the first set. They’re both really excellent long jams, this one a little more exuberant and joyous, but it still finds slow, floating waves as well. It was a joy to watch and hear
What a night. The fact that we drove from BTV during a blinding snowstorm on top of Mt Washington made it that much better. This jam is just 🤯. Kinda similar groove as the Island Tour Twist, it’s like riding a linear rocket straight through the atmosphere into outer space. Trey’s lick to bring it to a peak at the end is pure 🤤. Page’s playing is sublime. 4hr drive back to campus after to make a 9am class. IT.
Lovely jam really enjoyed it. I like it when a jam hits a peak, slows down and then go up again for another big peak. Loved the first 15 mins where Mike really led the way and make no mistake December 99 is all about Mike. The jam after 20 mins or so was basically the ending Waste solo from Trey, almost note for note. I don't say that to minimize it because I think it is really cool when they borrow from existing segments of their own music to jam around. I notice it a lot in 2022 jams trey will often use phrases from certain songs as the foundation for a peak of a jam. The recent Taboose Rockdale is an example with a clear 46 days jam at the end (even though the song already resembles 46 days a lot) or AC1 Ruby Waves peaked with a Destiny Unbound phrase.
@@ddaavvee68 taboose is Trey sitting in with Goose, which they just toured together. Rockdale a goose song that Trey sat in with. Here is the link to the full goose set and from 54 mins Trey sits in with them for 3 songs. If you like this there are like 8 more shows of sit ins. ruclips.net/video/myfDQfT5jOo/видео.html
I think 99-00 is possibly my favorite era besides 03-04. I'm a huge fan of long spacey ambient type jams which they don't do now but in this time they were gold
Went gin in the second half. The first peak reminds me of the big Cypress Sand or the sand from 12/13/99. I mean, that heady filtered out sound from December 99 is just... So cool. Such a great peak.
I just want to know where my man in the black shirt trying to kill spiders from 8:46-9:05 is right now? He kicked off this hall of fame jam with his back seat dancing and he deserves props… and then there is 19:30 and 22:40… Fall 99 Phish was on its own unique level never to be equaled…

GOAT Halley’s. No question about it. Always has been one of my fav jams.
Idk 11/22/97 might be my all-time phish jam. Those last 10 minutes are just so special

Excellent use of 28 minutes
I was there and at the time I knew it was a monumental segment of music

And this is the best Halley’s and it’s not even close in case anyone was wondering…
Wondering how he gets some of these sounds/effects
Like anyone know exactly what he's doing/using at 12:30?
Material objects have no real world 🗺️ value in my option opinion 🗺️
Richard Wright's most wonderbread song, loved when he wrote it but his later songs are a bit too much for white boys from Jersey.
