  • Hello everypawdy! 🐾
    In this video we are showing you the bad and the good way of stimulating your cat. Not playing enough, or not doing it the right way, can often cause some problems with your cat, those may include: aggressive behaviour, scratching on furniture, peeing outside the litter box, keeping you awake at night and many more. Of course it is not always due to this reason, however most often than not, it's because of accumulated stress and energy that needs to be released in one way (playing) or another ('bad' behaviour).

    This is brilliant and just what I needed. I have my beautiful boy home now (2nd day) and he has been biting a lot when I play with him which I thought was just ‘normal kitten behaviour’ so was accepting it. But really good to see this video and get such great advice. You are my go to people, for helping me make my gorgeous boy happy and healthy 💓

    Hi! I see you reply to most comments, I have a stray cat I adopted a few weeks ago and she’s super energic, but I feel like some toys over excite her. I have 4 wands I use and a few others (a ball with a bell and a small mouse) but she only really enjoyed the fluffy one, the others really frustrate her I can tell by her behaviour. She obviously gets bored of the toy she likes but it’s very difficult to find similar toys for her. Any advice on a very excited cat? (She’s about a year and a half) I’m playing with her for about an hour before she gets tired really. She also eats on a schedule with weighted out meals.

    How many minutes/hours a day should you play with your kitten and how many sessions per day?

    • @PixieandBluebell
      @PixieandBluebell  4 года назад +1

      All depends on individual cat's energy levels and age. When it comes to kittens, they can be quite hyper and I would say that you should play with them minimum two to three times a day, until they're exhausted😂 now that our cats are a little older, we play with them once a day usually, again, depends on their level of activity 💕

      Long story short, we got similar ones with a kitten pack from our breeder. They got them from a stand on a cat show. We were looking for these for SO LONG! and found them on Amazon. Controversially, we think these are real fur (any maybe that's why they love it so much), so I won't link them, but we are still searching for a similar, synthetic alternative!

      most of the time they will just go away, or if they pant like a dog you should take a break. But after a few minutes (if they haven’t fallen asleep yet ;)) you can start to play again. They just need a quick minute to cool down, and their battery is full again :)

    I would love to have a cat that plays so actively. My cat doesn't react to these types of toys, not even laserpointer works anymore. If I buy a new toy, my cat will lose interest quickly. The only way I can get him to play is with a towel, and a little paper stick below it which disappears every few seconds under the towel. That way, he gets a bit mental stimulation, because he won't run around anyway, unless it is evening or night, when he is most active. I believe he associates playtime with stress, because when he does play, it looks like he is in this constant fight or flight state, evaluating whether he should hunt the "prey", run away into the bedroom, or just lick himself to release stress. Playing barely looks like this comfortable fun activity it is supposed to be, but rather like much stress.

I'm collecting my two female kittens in a couple of weeks and after watching some of your older videos I believe they actually have the same mother as Pixie and Bluebell (she is a bi-colour called Alice) :). Thank you 🤍 It really depends on a cat and their age. Recently, Bluebell wants to play even 3 times a day!! But other times he's very relaxed. If you have a young kitten, they generally do need a lot more play time. Maybe look into getting a Catit play circuit, that way your cat will be able to play on its own sometimes too :)

      That is awesome! We're very excited for you! 💕 We use litter caller Breeder Celect. It is made of recycled newspapers, and it's one of the non-clumping ones. We found that it works better for our cats than fine litter, cause it doesn't get stuck in their tufts (they have fur at the bottom of their paws). It is very personal choice and you'll have to see what works best for both you and your kitty ❤ We would suggest to first use the same litter as what your kitty is used to (ask your breeder what they use), at least at the beginning, and then you can change it if you want to try something different! Hope this helps!

    Our cat is around 6 months old and we’ve had him since he was maybe 2. Is there any way we can train our cat to stop trying to play with hands, arms, or legs? We unfortunately knew nothing about cats, so we let him play with hands willy nilly as a younger kitten @_@ Not sure if just taking away hands will work now since he tends to pounce and latch on if you do.

    • @PixieandBluebell
      @PixieandBluebell  3 года назад +2

      I don't think it could ever be too late, it will only require a lot more work to correct the bad/undesired behaviour. I would say as soon as he does that stop him and get a toy so he can release the energy on something else than you. You may also want to watch our video on how to stimulate the cat, this should definitely help. 💙🐾

      This is a bit controversial and should not be overused, but you can give them a bap on the head. Of course you would not injure the cat, or do it more than once, but it really works for my cat. I find it more effective than a spray bottle (I dislike them and have never used them but the rest of my family used to) because a bap will simply just be weird for them and an obvious negative reaction. But the negative with spray bottles is that your cat will just become fearful of them and run away. It doesn’t really fix the issue it just makes them scared of water/spray bottles. They don’t get a message of “stop doing this” because they’re scared of the spray bottle and think it’s just a threat, it’s not really you punishing them, or they’ll even realize it’s you and noticeably hold a grudge.
      Also they can learn words if you use the same ones often, like “get down” (my cat knows what that means and obeys) or “come here” (I say that every time I pick her up, so she lifts her arms now when I say it.)
      What also worked for my cat was, when a cat like randomly attacks your feet or hands, to just (no matter how much it hurts) not react whatsoever. Usually after a few seconds they’ll just run away, my cat doesn’t do this anymore, but I remember a bap also works but isn’t necessary. Hope this helps discipline your kitty 😇

    Guys I've been watching your videos for a few months now and really enjoy them. I'm getting my first ragdoll in approximately 4 weeks and so excited. Your videos are very informative and they've made me realise that I need to do a lot of preparation prior to my kitten arriving and lots of work once it's here! I have a quick question and apologies if you've already covered this topic in one of your posts:
    In terms of furniture and other household items (settee, curtains, chairs, table, clothes, shoes etc) what should I do to prevent the kitten from playing with these things instead of its toys? Sorry if it's an obvious question but any tips/advice would be very appreciated!

    • @PixieandBluebell
      @PixieandBluebell  3 года назад +1

      Hey! That's very exciting! The best advice we can give is to have cardboard scratchers and a quality cat tree at home ready for the arrival of the kitten. Cats love to scratch but if they also love their scratching posts, then they will most likely gravitate towards these things 💕 some damage is unavoidable, so you just need to accept that, but as long as you redirect the kitten's attention from furniture to the cat tree/ scratching posts, they will learn quickly!
