The NFL and NBA get all the super freak athletes. The closest MMA has come to getting this is Jon Jones, and there's no coincidence that's why his brothers are in the NFL.

Mma is like golf, great athletes are molded from hard areas the best players come from poor inter cities, mma like golf is way too expensive for your average low income family which is why it’s dominated by richer middle class athletes or someone who was already born into a family who practices the art

Mike Perry got knocked out in the first round by a guy that works part-time as a waiter. More money = more people aspiring to do MMA as their first option at a young age instead of their 2nd or 3rd option. It wasn't even the first option of many of the top fighters who are in the sport, lol. Even many of the best fighters went as far as they could in higher paying sports and then put everything into MMA. It was not even Jon Jones' first choice. Shane Carwin never even maximized his talents in MMA because other sports were his first option and he carried over injuries from football (much higher paying sport) that was his first option.

Both are athletic as hell but Lebron is arguably the most athletic player in NBA history. Now MJ had more verticals, he has a 50 inch leap while Lebron had a little bit over 40 inches. But take into account Jordan weighed around 210 lbs while Lebron is around 260 lbs. For Lebron size his speed & jumping ability are ridiculous. I like MJ more and he is the GOAT but Lebron beats him in athleticism by a slight margin.

Just to add detail to Bo Jackson's hip injury. The tackler was tightly holding onto his leg at the ankle. When Bo tried to pull his leg out he pulled so hard and the grip was so tight that he dislocated his hip. In doing so he severed a vein that they didn't repair(I believe MRI technology wasn't advanced enough at the time to pick up the damaged vein) and his hip was unable to get any blood flow so it degenerated instead.
Basically, Bo Jackson was freakishly strong.

Bo Jackson's injury came from popping his femur back into his hip after it was dislocated due to a hit on the football field. if you do not do that carefully, you can pinch the blood vessel that supplies the head of the femur, which happened to him. So he was initially fine, but then his bone necrosed (or died) due to a lack of blood supply. Still he was able to have a baseball career after that, he is an unbelievable athlete.

I see where Joe’s coming from and I strongly agree. There’s definitely never been an athlete like LBJ in MMA, so imagine if he trained like a pro fighter. It’s a very good point he’s making. However I think he’s not considering a few things, like in MMA or any combat sport, you need to have so many different qualities that go beyond physical talent. Examples: You need to be able to absorb punishment, not only absorb punishment, but take damage and not lose your focus and stay with the gameplan, you can’t quit or panic once you start getting beat on. You need to have a very deep understanding of not only fighting, but what your opponent is thinking or about to do, that definitely comes with training hard, but some fighters obviously excel in the mental aspect more than others. You have to have the ability to stay calm in a fight otherwise you’d gas out quickly from not having control over your nerves and breathing. You have to master timing, precision, and angles which some fighters never do, even a fighter with great physical gifts that lacks these qualities will inevitably get beaten eventually
And even physical attributes that most people don’t consider: you need to have a good chin, some people simply don’t. you have to have a good gas tank, obviously comes with training, but at the same time some world class fighters downfalls have been them not having great cardio whereas others fighter’s best attributes are their stamina (it takes a different kind of cardio to be successful in MMA), you have to have muscular endurance as well, which is completely different than strength or explosiveness. You also have to have natural gifts like bone density even (Floyd’s KO% dropped not only cause he was moving up in weight classes but because he had issues with breaking his hands in fights)
MMA is one of the only sports where skill almost always beats athleticism and there’s a ton of examples that prove that. Stipe v Ngannou, Cain v Lesnar, Dom Cruz is a walking example of this, he’s never been remarkably fast or explosive but he has a vast wealth of knowledge that he always brings into the octagon with him, as well as technically sound wrestling fundamentals, and a very tricky style that time and time again, world class fighters couldn’t figure out.
Not saying Lebron couldn’t master all of these things had he been training for a very long time like Joe Rogan was hypothetically saying, but like the physical attributes Lebron has that make him great, some fighters are just naturally gifted with many subtle but important mental or physical traits more than others, but it’s all just guessing since this is a hypothetical fantasy not based in reality, we don’t know if LBJ has those traits I listed and we’ll never know. He’s obviously a one in a billion type of athletic specimen. And Joe obviously has a very deep knowledge of combat sports I’m just pointing out the factors that he didn’t list, and there’s a ton. That’s why we love MMA , there’s a million different things that make a fighter great, a million different things that can happen in a fight, and a million things we might not even know about leading into a match that could end up playing a huge factor in the fight. But I’m sure LBJ would be Successful had he trained MMA, he’s a freak. How successful though, we’ll never know unfortunately

I agree LeBron James is a world class athlete. He is a beast and I basically agree with Joe Rogan. The only problem I have is I don't know how he would respond to getting straight blasted in the face. Though he has great power, some individuals don't possess that warrior mentality... The toughness or fortitude to handle adversity. The way he dramatically flops fouls on the court makes it completely impossible to judge. We know he has the capabilities physically but mentally handle hand-to-hand combat.

And even then, LeBron makes Francis look smallish, Ngannou is 6’4” 260 pounds, LeBron is 6’8” and at his heaviest he was 280 pounds of solid muscle, he can jump 40” and is one of the fastest players in the NBA, and he’s a smart dude had he gone the MMA route, it’s scary to imagine what he could have become.

This is such a goofy take.
The skill set, endurance, and bodily requirements in MMA are so heavily different from basketball. Lebron as a fighter in his weight class may or may not be good, but these absolutist statements like, “he would dominate! He would be unstoppable!” Are such fan-boy filled nonsense. I like Joe but this take is so bad - let’s remember, though, Joe also thought Rousey could beat many male fighters her size and was a better boxer than Mayweather. LeBron isn't just an insane athlete, he has the work ethic and intelligence as well. If he had trained his entire life to be a fighter, he would be the best to ever do it no question. People talk about Jon Jones like he's an athletic marvel, which he is, but compared to LeBron he's a middle schooler. 6'9, 270, faster then the strongest and stronger then the fastest. He's the most athletic human since prime Wilt Chamberlain. I wish I could see LeBron in the MMA. It wouldn't be fair. He also has incredible durability with injuries, although that obviously wouldn't translate 1 to 1 in MMA lol.

Fedor in his prime was a giant killer. It didn't matter how big, how fast, or how strong his opponents were. It didn't matter if they clocked him, if they got on top of him, or if they dropped him on his head. He would eventually either submit them, or light them up. His hands down, high risk style eventually caught up to him. But, this is why I've got a problem with records and greatest p4p stats. Fedor in his prime could and would beat anyone from any weight division. And, he wasn't a goliath.
