Honestly, the best way I've found to learn Kanji is to simply learn vocabulary. As you learn to recognize different words in writting, you'll slowly begin to notice the same characters appearing over and over again, and you'll subconsciously start to see patterns and pick up on their meanings. Even if you never learn what a specific character actual means, as long as you can recognize words that use it, that's all you really need. While apps can certainly help, your main source of knowledge should be your immersion. It's not rocket science.
Your video and MochiMochi app have helped me so much in my journey to learn Japanese. The spaced-repetition system is a game-changer! Arigatou gozaimasu!
I used to think kanji was scary and that my mind would explode seeing them. But the way you put it together makes it seem interesting and fun to learn!
Spreadsheets are extremely helpful. Natural sentences in Japanese can be categorized by noun (猫), grammar point (にとって), verb (飲み干す), adjective (素早い), adverb (たくさん), time variables (早朝), and physical locations (神奈川県). This approach is highly effective because every single sentence that you read can be transformed into 6 vocabulary entries (one for each category) and 1 grammar point (if there is one). You're also learning everything in context.
I’ve downloaded the Mochi app and like it very much! But I think it’s very helpful if you have the kana memorized first, which I don’t. I still have to refer to my cheat sheet some of the time. But I like the choice of kanji used in the first lessons. Very relevant and helpful. Also I was hoping to see some info on all the different readings that the Kanji have. Perhaps a rule of thumb on which reading to use and when because some kanji have three readings. But thanks for your videos! I appreciate you very much.
I just downloaded MochiMochi app after watching your video and I'm already hooked! The graphics and animations are so cute and the quizzes are actually fun. Thank you for creating such an amazing app!
I just got the MochiMochi app. We’ll see, with my more than 10 Japanese learning books and 2 sets of Japanese flash cards and Japanese movies, if I will progress.
Hi! I just discovered your channel and I think you show and explain really amazingly! It really helps to see some examples and always have the translation under it :)
"Just what people thought to be God's answer through some signs" Really? Interesting 🤔 8:21, It *was* fun lo learn kanji this way hehe. By the way, thank you for the kanji's evolution slide!
The Android link says my device is not compatible. What's the deal? It's a tablet where I've installed just about every useful app I could find. This one won't though. What kind of limits does this appnhave?
@@seanar24 It does! But phonetics in Japanese were originally all expressed in kanji, and they eventually became hiragana just by being written in a fast cursive. You can still see this pretty clearly in some of them, like 宇 => う and 加 => か. And the idea of using non-cursive, fully-kanji-looking kanji for phonetic reasons never wholly went away, even as it stopped being the main way.
