Wow! This brings amazing memories. Me and my wife went to Waikiki for our honeymoon 7 years ago. We stayed at the Aston Waikiki Circle which we were able to see a few times in this video.
I have stayed at circle.old but refurbished.what a view!!watched old tv show " I dream of Jeannie" in Waikiki. Circle hotel was in background.few hotels around it.very historic hotel!
This is just what I needed. Sun and beautiful water. It's raining in Cincinnati Ohio, and I leave tomorrow 3 Jun for Waikiki. Staying at the HHV. Cheers

Back in the day at this time of year you couldn't get a spot on Waikiki Beach. It was packed. And loud. Ghetto Blasters everywhere! Off to Dukes for Happy Hour then over to Moose McGillycuddys after a nap and shower. Jeans, boots and a nice shirt. Girls EVERYWHERE! Such great memories of the '80's. By far and away the best decade ever...
It looked scruffy before almost like it had rust, I always noticed when I saw the videos. I love white sand beaches; it looks so much more inviting. They need to be on top of it so it doesn't get that way again, maintenance, like in Florida, they have those beautiful white sand beaches.
Lived there 50 years ago (1971) at 1471 St Louis Dr; that was Hilo Hatties' home and was still owned by her. It was for sale for $35,000; believe or not. Loved Oahu, even as a soldier stationed at Camp HM Smith and never forgot the experience. Went to the Crater Fest that year. Four vacations there, the last was 2005. I consider much of what I knew is now gone. I won't be going back but still love the ocean, mountains and the endless warmth. "Where the sea egg flames on the coral, and the long backed breakers croon - - Their endless ocean legends to the lazy, locked lagoon"....Kipling
I went to this beach in.....1974 !!!! I stayed at the large hotel at the end...the SHERATON....the royal hawaiian is next door....none of those other hotels were there !! It was all beach and the diamondhead was fully visible...nothing near it...and nothing leading up to it...it was a very plain, empty, beautiful beach with very few hotels...up the road was the Rainbow Tower...and that's about it !! Aloha !! p.s. someone tried to sell me Puka Shells on the beach and i saw the sunrise outside one morning, the beach was totally empty and i was the only one on it besides two boys sleeping in the sand, they had slept on it overnite.
We stood at the Sheraton also on our honeymoon in 1976. I remember the lobby with the shell chimes and the trade winds making that beautiful sound. Oh, and the plumeria flowers🌸. Still have a Hawaiian dress I bought, and it still fits.
@@me777s i remember the buffet breakfast, the view of diamondhead from the room, a sun and ocean mural on the wall in the room, i think i was on the 23rd floor if that's possible....i remember the large flower pattern on the furniture at the entrance of the hotel....the shoppes...the great pool...i bought a hawaiian dress at the shopping mall on ala moana blvd...i think that's the one. I bought postcards that had tiny packages of sand stapled to them....supposedly sand from the beach.

Waikiki Beach became famous for its surf, the man who invented modern surfing, and his friends who would come surfing with him. Waikiki is a surfing hotspot now.
The entire beach is still not open, I just got back from Waikiki last night. A good portion is still closed up and the workers were working on it yesterday morning.
There are no structures built in the water between the Royal Hawaiian Hotel and the duke kahanamoku statue where the video ends. I assume you must have stayed further down nearby Kuhio beach where there are a bunch of structures built in the water. The surf spot “Wall’s” is at the pier that goes out between Kuhio beach and Queen’s beach.
I dunno, looks like its time to add more sand to the beach. They raised the height of the beach but haven't returned the length of the beach into the ocean back to its original size.
Heartbreaking to see. We have severe erosion here on the US East Coast but I did not realize how bad it was in Hawaii as well. Sad and shocking to see.

What happened to the sand? It looks like they dumped a bunch of dirt on the beach. Whe water looks milky from the dirt and how the waves turn up the dirt.... It used to be so clear. Sad to see.
It's because they dredged a bunch of sand from offshore to replenish the beach. It should eventually return to normal...This is the second time they have used this method to replenish the beach. Thanks for watching!
Waikiki beach was naturally a much smaller beach. A lot of sand came from Manhattan beach in CA, and they’ve twice dredged sand from offshore to replace what was lost by erosion. Thanks for watching!
It has always been that you didn’t need to wear a mask in Hawaii when out “exercising”, and the police aren’t enforcing the mask mandate. The shops however will ask you to wear a mask when entering their premises. Thanks for watching!

This is the second time this was done in not a lot of years. Much of the sand that you swimming is very coarse, even gravel. Used to wear swim shoes as it was so bad, Add countless homeless people, we stopped going years ago. Reasonable priced food and shopping is no longer there, except ABC stores. Be going elsewhere. Sorry to be a downer.
Exactly, sadly whole Caribbean region affected by it. It started in 2010 and slowly progressed throughout the years. It travels all way from Africa! Dumping agricultural fertilizers in ocean and climate change provoked it

A few high surf days and the dark colors get washed away!

I went to Waikiki in 1990. The beach wasn't so slanted it was even more of a gentle gradual drop off..
They just dumped a bunch of sand on the beach that they dredged from offshore, so that might have something to do with it. Thank you for watching!

Wow. The water is unbelievably cloudy. You cant see 1 foot below the water. Probably silt and will be like that for a long time.

Where is the wall? When I stayed In Waikiki I walked out of my hotel & there was a wall in the water & in this video there is no wall.

You walk on this beach and you're walking on Stockton Beach NSW because that's where the sand came from.
