Good N' Plenty was the only place we went to when I was little. My late mom and I would take bus trips out to Redding or to Lancaster to shop at the outlets. I hated the shopping but loved when we went to the Dutch Country. The scenery, the Amish people and the food at Good N' Plenty always made the trip more enjoyable. We would go to the Farmer's Market and buy all of our greens; I'd never seen a head of cabbage so big before. Memories I will cherish always.

Your reviews were so helpful. We did a buffet crawl while there recently. I would rank the buffets 1. Miller’s-most expensive, but by far the best tasting. 2. Dienners-the least expensive, best desserts, and over all excellent quality. 3. Shady Maple-had the most choices, impressed by condiments and drinks alone; both breakfast and lunch were equally good, but not as good of quality as 1st 2. 4. Bird In Hand-very good, but 3 above were better.

Ha! Yes! This is the most frequent comment on this video :) ☺️😆 So this was the first video I ever made on this channel 2 1/2 years ago. I was getting my feet wet and taking a chance - I had NO idea if anyone would watch any of my videos. That being said, this video was purely based on my family’s experiences and favorite spots that we kept going back to year after year. Since starting this channel and getting great suggestions from viewers like you, we have visited and tasted many new to us places and Miller’s is one of them! I actually did a review video on it ☺️👍. I have fond memories of going there with my family, i am from NJ, so it is about a 2 hr drive, and we would go in the summer and fall on day trips or long weekends, I always loved going there! I lived in York PA for 4 years, and my wife and I would visit Lancaster(a half hour away), on a regular basis! Millers is really a nice place, a little pricey but great food. I hope to see more videos from you, it would be cool if you did a video on Kitchen Kettle Village.

I tried Oregon Dairy on my trip back last week, solid choice! I like that it isn't only buffet and that you can get out of there for less than $20 (+service) pretty easily. Great ice cream and sundae choices also!

Yoder’s Family Restaurant and Buffet is also very good in New Holland, but my favorite is Dienner’s. I even like it better than Shady Maple because it’s cozier and not so far to walk to get in to the restaurant. They also have all you really need for a delicious meal with a price that is very reasonable. You don’t have to have 100 different offerings to eat well. Another good place to eat is Katie’s Kitchen, Hartman Bridge Road in Ronks. When I go to Lancaster County, Dienner’s and Katie’s Kitchen are always on my to do list. Yum!
I agree Sue! Dienners is absolutely one of my favs! When I made this video, I had not yet been to Dienners. This is actually the first video on Lancaster I made back in early 2020 and it was totally based on my personal experiences over the previous 10 years - we just kept going back to our favorites year after year (since we don’t live local we only got to go 1-2 times a year at that time). But now I get to go more and we have been purposely trying all the places locals and the viewers on this channel have recommended:). It’s been so fun! And I have a better objective view on other places and the oldie but goodies. So now Katie’s and Dienner’s are in my top 10 in my head and heart 😎🤓👍. Thanks for your input!! Great advice !
Love your videos. I have lived in Lancaster for 38 years. All of your suggestions are spot on. Have you done any about the city? So much diversity in food, culture, arts, etc. One more reason to visit Lancaster.

There are a LOT of amazing places to eat in Lancaster 👍😊 and so many to try! And like I’ve said before, this list is based on my personal experiences and what’s special about each place. We have just been so happy w our regular eateries, that we don’t break away from our favs most of the time. But I hope to try Miller’s this year bc I hear many good things about it 👍😊

Bird in Hand Family Restaurant is THE BEST. My hubby and I have been known to wake up at 5am and travel to This restaurant from our home in Northern Virginia. Spend the day in Lancaster and be home in our own bed that evening.

Definitely. Dienners. would be first. on my list. I haven't eaten a Shady Maple for a few years.. They were getting bad. write ups. for restaurant reviews Yoders is really good too for. buffet or menu ordering. Both Dienners and Yoders have. Amish working there. Both reasonable. You did a great review though. There is plenty of resonable places to eat around. Lancaster. Also quite a few places to save. alot of money on your grocery bill . I hardly ever shop at a regular grocery chain. I have lived in Lancaster all my life. I can be. your tour guide. lol. Seriously people drive over 45 minutes to grocery shop too .

They went down hill over the years and after being written up so many times. and my friends don't like it. any more , I just haven't gone back. Have to go to Strasburg now ( lol) I do shop for my friends. . I pay about 1/2 or less. then regular grocery stores wkithout coupons. Name brand stuff mostly. Like yogurt. 3 or 4. ,$100 . Iced Tea. $1.00 , Etc. Family size Raisin Brand $300. They don't always have the same stuff.
Dienners is the best. Very clean and They cook in small batches so the food is not sitting out for long. Shady maple has a lot of health violations and the sodium is off the charts.

@@gaila.8830 that’s a really good question 🙋🏻♀️! Even though there is a lot of heavy food in Lancaster, there are also a lot of veggies. The bigger buffets like Shady Maple and Miller’s have fish (Miller’s also has steamed shrimp) and salads, breads and lots of sides. Most likely other buffets do too, I would just check before hand. If u want a smaller setting or a more non-traditional Lancaster county meal, I would suggest the Tomato Pie Cafe or the Lititz Springs Inn and Spa restaurants - pretty sure the latter has scallops and the tomato cafe has lots of healthy options 👍. I’m sure there are others and when I think of them, will let u know 😊👌
I love Amish Culture and food I visited some of the store and restaurants for Amish in Sarasota Florida , the food was the best food I ate and I’m planning to visit Lancaster pa

I have to say when we go to Katie’s you can’t get better service anywhere else then Katie’s. Because it’s Amish service. There so polite there.and sweet. And great home cooking too like your grandma’s.

But no, for a long time when we would go to Lancaster, we would go to our favorite places only. I never even heard of Katie’s till 2020. Heard about it from a buggy tour guide. One thing about having this channel is that now I get LOTS of suggestions and I LOVE it!!

Couldn't believe it myself that Millers wasn't in the top 5, much less not even on the list. The one and only drawback I have experienced at Millers after going multiple times, is that literally tour busses with loads of people arrive at times which make it quite crowded. I highly recommend them. Thanks for the video, it brought back some fond memories of great times in a nicer world.

I LOVE Hershey Farm!! Like I just said to a recent commenter, when I made this video, it was purely MY top 10 that my family has enjoyed for year. Not necessarily THE top 10 - this video was personal to what we loved. However since this video and this channel, I’ve been enjoying trying so many new places!!! There is sooo much to do and eat in Lancaster! It’s the best!! I did a review video on Hershey Farm in January of this year :) It’s terrific 👍😊
That is a good question!! Thankfully, ALL of them are still open!!! They had to recently shutdown for a several weeks per PA COVID standards, but almost all restaurants have re-opened as of Feb. 4th. I double checked all their websites just now and they are all open, but with some hour changes so check their websites for those details (links in the description). The only one I don't know about is eating in an Amish home, that you would have to call about ; ) Thanks for asking :)
Suggestion: Knight and Day Diner. Just south of Lititz. PA 501 by Lancaster Airport. Very extensive menu and great service. Open 24/7/365. Love your channel. You do a great job with your videos. Cheers and Happy New Year!

A lot of the Lancaster restaurants shut down for months last year then reopened with take out. Then when the state allowed them to, re opened w limited capacity. Good n Plenty was prbly closed the longest.

Not only have me and my wife had horrible breakfasts there, but we met a large group of friends from out of town, for breakfast, pre-covid. When I asked where everybody wanted to go? The only comment was anything but the rt 30 diner. The group had been there previously, and thought it was awful. We ended up at Deiner's. IMHO, there is a lot of great food within a few miles of that diner, and the diner is a great place to avoid.

Excellent places to eat. I've been going to Lancaster for vacations all my life. I agree with your #1 place Good and Plenty Family Style Restaurant. Food is delicious. However They are no longer in business. They decided to close their doors. Because of the pandemic their Family Style Eating doesn't sit well with lots of people I guess. It's a shame. We always stopped there for dinner. Generations of our family love going there.

The big plus of Dienner's is that it is IMHO the only legit aka non-tourist trap Amish Buffet. It is owned by Mennonites, and many Amish not only work there, but it is the single only buffet where you will actually see Amish and Mennonite people eating amongst you. Food that looks average is elevated to a new level because everything is fresh, And homemade. To this day I get craving's for there tapioca pudding and I'm almost willing to drive the 6 hours just to get it just thinking of it. Hopefully later this summer! Made with fresh whipped cream! Their corn is fresh off the cob. And on and on and on. As I mentioned non tourist trap! Roots is amazing. Farmers Market, meets crafts show, meets garden center. These would be my #1 and 2 and then I would repeat them before I go to most of the rest on the list. Kettle kitchen is a fun tourist trap and high quality T-shirts. My friend insisted on going on a tour of Amish country And since I've been going there my whole life I had less than no interest in doing this. Thanks to the internet I did find a small company Where you went into Amish homes. They didn't offer meals but there were cookies and refreshments. It was an amazing day and I'm glad we did it. I like most things, we all have different taste and opinions. To me Good N Plenty was the single worst meal I've ever had in Lancaster. And I've had some pretty mediocre ones. There wasn't enough food for the entire table and they refused to bring more. My friend who I've never heard complain about anything was disgusted and swore she would never go back.

I completely agree w u about Dienner’s - the more I go the more I love it. Very authentic!! I did a video on them last summer (during Covid) after the reopened. It’s a great place. And yes Roots has pretty much everything anyone could ever need 😊😆😄. I have noticed Good n Plenty conjures up a lot of opinions and many are on the comment section of this video. We have honestly never had a bad meal there over the past 10 years or so but I will say some of their staff could have been friendlier. But many of the waitresses are wonderful. You are right, everyone has their options and that’s ok :). I’ve honestly already changed my top 10 in my head this year. I hope to do a top 10 video every year. You may enjoy another video I made last year bc it lists the top 10 foods I ate last summer - so more specific than just a general restaurant. I do now. Like I say in this video, this was my personal top 10 over the places my family has gone to for 15 years (this was made over 2 years ago). We never went to Millers because when you only go to Lancaster (at that time) once maybe twice a year, you hit your favorite spots every time so we stuck with those. Now that I’m able to go to Lancaster more, I’ve been enjoying trying other places. I did a whole video review on Millers and it’s on my channel under food reviews. It’a a great place and they have my favorite Mac n cheese I’ve ever had at ANY restaurant!! 😊👏👍

Of course u can order off the menu and sit on the charming farmhouse side BUT if u want to experience family style there, just go for an early lunch at like 11 or 11:20 during a weekday and there is hardly anyone there 👍😊. A little hack for ya 😃. Double check their hours before u go:)

@@ElleLiving Local here. I live minutes from Hershey farm, Good and Plenty and Katies. I went to G & P once, and been to the other two, too many times to count. I throw a big family Christmas gathering at Hershey's every year, and eat at Katies a few times a month. IMHO, G&P is a tourist trap, and can't hold a candle to other, far better local choices.

Brights restaurant in Ephrata Pennsylvania and the Evergreen restaurant in Ephrata Pennsylvania are restaurants we do NOT support. Even though they say and claim to be equal opportunity employers, they are not. Brights restaurant in Ephrata does not and will not hire minorities. The manager blames his brother and family and takes no involvement, yeah ok. Have doubts? Go there and take a look for yourself. The Evergreen restaurant in Ephrata is also the same way. They only hire Mexicans to wor in their kitchen. There are many great places to enjoy good food at restaurants that truly are an equal opportunity employer. As for Brights restaurant in Ephrata and the Evergreen restaurant in Ephrata, don't give them your business time, or your money. Instead, go somewhere else.....

I love Lancaster PA, but I cant believe you didnt include Millers Smorgasbord in this video, it is a wonderful place to eat!
Ha! Yes! This is the most frequent comment on this video :) ☺️😆 So this was the first video I ever made on this channel 2 1/2 years ago. I was getting my feet wet and taking a chance - I had NO idea if anyone would watch any of my videos. That being said, this video was purely based on my family’s experiences and favorite spots that we kept going back to year after year. Since starting this channel and getting great suggestions from viewers like you, we have visited and tasted many new to us places and Miller’s is one of them! I actually did a review video on it ☺️👍. I agree it’s a wonderful place to eat - very good food! I wish they offered a cheaper lunch option like pretty much everyone else does but besides that, I LOVE it! Thanks for commenting!!

It is so nice that you chose to do a vid on Lancaster, and the many wonderful food options it has to offer! I have fond memories of going there with my family, i am from NJ, so it is about a 2 hr drive, and we would go in the summer and fall on day trips or long weekends, I always loved going there! I lived in York PA for 4 years, and my wife and I would visit Lancaster(a half hour away), on a regular basis!
Millers is really a nice place, a little pricey but great food.
I hope to see more videos from you, it would be cool if you did a video on Kitchen Kettle Village.

It is not Lancaster, but it would make a cool vid as well, and speaking of good eating spots, have you ever been to Wyndridge Farm in Dallastown, right outside of York? As far as the Shoehouse, I went there as a kid on a field trip but not since AND they got bought out recently and I believe they are making it into an AirBnB or something like that ? I tried Oregon Dairy on my trip back last week, solid choice! I like that it isn't only buffet and that you can get out of there for less than $20 (+service) pretty easily. Great ice cream and sundae choices also!

Yoder’s Family Restaurant and Buffet is also very good in New Holland, but my favorite is Dienner’s. I even like it better than Shady Maple because it’s cozier and not so far to walk to get in to the restaurant. They also have all you really need for a delicious meal with a price that is very reasonable. You don’t have to have 100 different offerings to eat well. Another good place to eat is Katie’s Kitchen, Hartman Bridge Road in Ronks. When I go to Lancaster County, Dienner’s and Katie’s Kitchen are always on my to do list. Yum!
I agree Sue! Dienners is absolutely one of my favs! When I made this video, I had not yet been to Dienners. This is actually the first video on Lancaster I made back in early 2020 and it was totally based on my personal experiences over the previous 10 years - we just kept going back to our favorites year after year (since we don’t live local we only got to go 1-2 times a year at that time). But now I get to go more and we have been purposely trying all the places locals and the viewers on this channel have recommended:). It’s been so fun! And I have a better objective view on other places and the oldie but goodies. So now Katie’s and Dienner’s are in my top 10 in my head and heart 😎🤓👍. Thanks for your input!! Great advice !
Love your videos. I have lived in Lancaster for 38 years. All of your suggestions are spot on. Have you done any about the city? So much diversity in food, culture, arts, etc. One more reason to visit Lancaster.

There are a LOT of amazing places to eat in Lancaster 👍😊 and so many to try! And like I’ve said before, this list is based on my personal experiences and what’s special about each place. We have just been so happy w our regular eateries, that we don’t break away from our favs most of the time. But I hope to try Miller’s this year bc I hear many good things about it 👍😊

Bird in Hand Family Restaurant is THE BEST. My hubby and I have been known to wake up at 5am and travel to This restaurant from our home in Northern Virginia. Spend the day in Lancaster and be home in our own bed that evening.

Definitely. Dienners. would be first. on my list. I haven't eaten a Shady Maple for a few years.. They were getting bad. write ups. for restaurant reviews Yoders is really good too for. buffet or menu ordering. Both Dienners and Yoders have. Amish working there. Both reasonable.
You did a great review though. There is plenty of resonable places to eat around. Lancaster. Also quite a few places to save. alot of money on your grocery bill . I hardly ever shop at a regular grocery chain. I have lived in Lancaster all my life. I can be. your tour guide. lol.

Have u been to Katie’s Kitchen near Strasburg? We discovered it last year and now love it! Amish owned and operated. Sorry about your not good experiences at Shady Maple. I love their variety and my teenage boys love their quantity 😆. I think for visitors it’s a good place bc they have so many local dishes to choose from but personally, I’m starting to lean more to smaller, menu ordering places 😊
@@ElleLiving Hey. Shady Maple Used to be really good years ago. They went down hill over the years and after being written up so many times. and my friends don't like it. any more , I just haven't gone back. Have to go to Strasburg now ( lol)
I do shop for my friends. . I pay about 1/2 or less. then regular grocery stores wkithout coupons. Name brand stuff mostly. Like yogurt. 3 or 4. ,$100 . Iced Tea. $1.00 , Etc. Family size Raisin Brand $300. They don't always have the same stuff.
Dienners is the best. Very clean and They cook in small batches so the food is not sitting out for long. Shady maple has a lot of health violations and the sodium is off the charts.

@@gaila.8830 that’s a really good question 🙋🏻♀️! Even though there is a lot of heavy food in Lancaster, there are also a lot of veggies. The bigger buffets like Shady Maple and Miller’s have fish (Miller’s also has steamed shrimp) and salads, breads and lots of sides. Most likely other buffets do too, I would just check before hand. If u want a smaller setting or a more non-traditional Lancaster county meal, I would suggest the Tomato Pie Cafe or the Lititz Springs Inn and Spa restaurants - pretty sure the latter has scallops and the tomato cafe has lots of healthy options 👍. I’m sure there are others and when I think of them, will let u know 😊👌

But no, for a long time when we would go to Lancaster, we would go to our favorite places only. I never even heard of Katie’s till 2020. Heard about it from a buggy tour guide. One thing about having this channel is that now I get LOTS of suggestions and I LOVE it!!

Couldn't believe it myself that Millers wasn't in the top 5, much less not even on the list. The one and only drawback I have experienced at Millers after going multiple times, is that literally tour busses with loads of people arrive at times which make it quite crowded. I highly recommend them. Thanks for the video, it brought back some fond memories of great times in a nicer world.

Hershey Farm Restaurant & Inn…best smorgasbord in Lancaster County!!
I LOVE Hershey Farm!! Like I just said to a recent commenter, when I made this video, it was purely MY top 10 that my family has enjoyed for year. Not necessarily THE top 10 - this video was personal to what we loved. However since this video and this channel, I’ve been enjoying trying so many new places!!! There is sooo much to do and eat in Lancaster! It’s the best!! I did a review video on Hershey Farm in January of this year :) It’s terrific 👍😊

That is a good question!! Thankfully, ALL of them are still open!!! They had to recently shutdown for a several weeks per PA COVID standards, but almost all restaurants have re-opened as of Feb. 4th. I double checked all their websites just now and they are all open, but with some hour changes so check their websites for those details (links in the description). The only one I don't know about is eating in an Amish home, that you would have to call about ; ) Thanks for asking :)

Shady Maple is open... they have a new COVID prorocol that requires ALL to wear gloves while in the buffet/food vicinity. I love this rule!

@@ElleLiving no problem!! I mean it’s not a smorgasbord by any means, but the menu is a lot to choose from and the food is delish. Try the double-decker grilled cheese and tomato soup combo. They have a layer of cheese around the top of the soup. It’s soooooo good.

I went to Good n Plenty back on September and the food was awful. I'm visiting Lancaster next month and plan to stop at Shady Maple.

How did the places with family-style dining and large tables deal with the Covid era?
A lot of the Lancaster restaurants shut down for months last year then reopened with take out. Then when the state allowed them to, re opened w limited capacity. Good n Plenty was prbly closed the longest.

Not only have me and my wife had horrible breakfasts there, but we met a large group of friends from out of town, for breakfast, pre-covid. When I asked where everybody wanted to go? The only comment was anything but the rt 30 diner. The group had been there previously, and thought it was awful. We ended up at Deiner's. IMHO, there is a lot of great food within a few miles of that diner, and the diner is a great place to avoid.

Excellent places to eat. I've been going to Lancaster for vacations all my life. I agree with your #1 place Good and Plenty Family Style Restaurant. Food is delicious. However They are no longer in business. They decided to close their doors. Because of the pandemic their Family Style Eating doesn't sit well with lots of people I guess. It's a shame. We always stopped there for dinner. Generations of our family love going there.

Well…no not on this list ☺️ like I said in the video this was purely based on our regular places at that time. Although Dienner's is small the quality of the food , both taste and freshness, far exceeds any of the buffets in the area.

The big plus of Dienner's is that it is IMHO the only legit aka non-tourist trap Amish Buffet. It is owned by Mennonites, and many Amish not only work there, but it is the single only buffet where you will actually see Amish and Mennonite people eating amongst you. Food that looks average is elevated to a new level because everything is fresh, And homemade. To this day I get craving's for there tapioca pudding and I'm almost willing to drive the 6 hours just to get it just thinking of it. Hopefully later this summer! Made with fresh whipped cream! Their corn is fresh off the cob. And on and on and on. As I mentioned non tourist trap!
Roots is amazing. Farmers Market, meets crafts show, meets garden center. These would be my #1 and 2 and then I would repeat them before I go to most of the rest on the list. Kettle kitchen is a fun tourist trap and high quality T-shirts. My friend insisted on going on a tour of Amish country And since I've been going there my whole life I had less than no interest in doing this. Thanks to the internet I did find a small company Where you went into Amish homes. They didn't offer meals but there were cookies and refreshments. It was an amazing day and I'm glad we did it.
I like most things, we all have different taste and opinions. To me Good N Plenty was the single worst meal I've ever had in Lancaster. And I've had some pretty mediocre ones. There wasn't enough food for the entire table and they refused to bring more. My friend who I've never heard complain about anything was disgusted and swore she would never go back.

And yes Roots has pretty much everything anyone could ever need 😊😆😄. I have noticed Good n Plenty conjures up a lot of opinions and many are on the comment section of this video. We have honestly never had a bad meal there over the past 10 years or so but I will say some of their staff could have been friendlier. But many of the waitresses are wonderful. You are right, everyone has their options and that’s ok :). I’ve honestly already changed my top 10 in my head this year. I hope to do a top 10 video every year. You may enjoy another video I made last year bc it lists the top 10 foods I ate last summer - so more specific than just a general restaurant. I do now. Like I say in this video, this was my personal top 10 over the places my family has gone to for 15 years (this was made over 2 years ago). We never went to Millers because when you only go to Lancaster (at that time) once maybe twice a year, you hit your favorite spots every time so we stuck with those. Now that I’m able to go to Lancaster more, I’ve been enjoying trying other places. I did a whole video review on Millers and it’s on my channel under food reviews. It’a a great place and they have my favorite Mac n cheese I’ve ever had at ANY restaurant!! 😊👏👍

Ha! Well u r not alone:). I actually love it but there are some in my family who don’t 😆😄👍. Of course u can order off the menu and sit on the charming farmhouse side BUT if u want to experience family style there, just go for an early lunch at like 11 or 11:20 during a weekday and there is hardly anyone there 👍😊. Ya know, in all my visits to Lancaster through the years, I have never been to Hershey Farms!! But, I LOVE suggestions so I will try my best to get there this year! Thanks:) Is there a particular dish you enjoy?

@@ElleLiving Local here. I live minutes from Hershey farm, Good and Plenty and Katies. I went to G & P once, and been to the other two, too many times to count. I throw a big family Christmas gathering at Hershey's every year, and eat at Katies a few times a month. IMHO, G&P is a tourist trap, and can't hold a candle to other, far better local choices.

I am a bit jealous:) When I had made that video, I had yet to go to Katies. Went last summer for the first time and LOVED it and is now one of my favs!!! As far as GnP, of course I respect your opinion as a local, but they do have some delicious dishes, especially their fried chicken and buttered noodles : ) I will say that I enjoy the old part of the restaurant as far as ambiance (the family style meal is pretty pricey)! I also think their history is pretty special, but a lot of the restaurants have such a neat backstory. You are right, there is SO much to choose from in Lancaster! What a dilemma to have:))) Thanks again for your humble opinion ; )

John, I know 😞😩😢 They closed at the beginning of this year. Was hoping somebody would buy it out and reopen but don’t think that is happening. This video is over 2 years old - my 2020 top 10 👍

Brights restaurant in Ephrata Pennsylvania and the Evergreen restaurant in Ephrata Pennsylvania are restaurants we do NOT support. Even though they say and claim to be equal opportunity employers, they are not. Brights restaurant in Ephrata does not and will not hire minorities. The manager blames his brother and family and takes no involvement, yeah ok. Have doubts? Go there and take a look for yourself. The Evergreen restaurant in Ephrata is also the same way. They only hire Mexicans to wor in their kitchen. There are many great places to enjoy good food at restaurants that truly are an equal opportunity employer. As for Brights restaurant in Ephrata and the Evergreen restaurant in Ephrata, don't give them your business time, or your money. Instead, go somewhere else.....
