Guys today we will enter the real abbey of THE NUN. The Santa Carta Abbey in Romania where Warner Bros took inspiration for the horror film The Nun.
At 43 kilometers from Sibiu, on the road leading to Brasov, in the Olt valley is Carta, where are the ruins of one of the most beautiful and most impressive fortified churches in Transylvania, but at the same time, one of the least known. Former Cistercian monastery charter is considered to be one of the oldest and most important early Gothic monuments in this part of Europe.
The monastery was founded by Cistercian monks (monk of the Order of French origin) in 1205-1206 and was built as a cross. The former monastery is now a community of the Evangelical Church of the Charter.
Relatively accurate dating of the foundation of this Cistercian monastery is facilitated by a document issued in Hungarian by the Royal Chancellery in 1223.
Excavations carried out here after 1980 have led to the discovery of two human skeletons two meters long. The theory that was later published is that in the Middle Ages, abnormal individuals had been sent to the monastery. Abbey was attacked several times throughout history for hundreds of years. It was almost entirely destroyed by the Tartars in 1241, when the abbot was also killed. A legend says that at the monastery there was a tunnel that started under the altar and ended at the river. Near the abbey there are two caves where the monks hid when there were foreign attacks. Historical records say that towards the end of the fourteenth century, the life of luxury, hunting trips, had taken the place of charity and temperance.
