I think that may be one of the reason why I love this song so much. By the way, it's impossible that it was released in the late 1990's! I will keep on listening to this song forever even if I become older!!

It sounds like the stage of mourning one experiences after the death of a loved one, but with the glimmer of hope from the world beyond which they have ascended into, where they will soon be reunited. Truly a moving song if you really listen to it. Just like that story, this song's telling me to open my wings and fly, so I can be free.
