For many, the Schomburg Center represents the heartbeat of Black history and culture in New York City. Arturo Schomburg helped preserve artifacts that would have been lost to generations. His grandson sat down with CBS2's Jessica Moore to show us a side of the legendary collector many have never seen.

True. He was born and raised in Santurce, PR and moved to NYC at 17 years old. In the Caribbean, many blacks kept their Yoruba religion and language, music, traditions. Unlike in the USA were they were forced into Christianity and to disconnect from their culture and traditions

Mr. Auturo Schombury was very proud of his ethnicity of African descent and the nation of his birth Puerto Rico, and because of him we have the proof of Black people's great history within our society. He collected and shared some of the great and awesome works/innovations/contributions of Black people.
