@@NinaKarmenDid you speak to them?:) Do you know that Mamun was a very shy and not ambitious girl. She was always in the shadow of Kudryavzeva. And only thanks to Vinner she got Olimpic Medal for her father. As to you...people usually believe what they want to believe. But very often reality is quite different:)
I watched it yesterday. The filming is insane, yet there is no narrative you can feel all of the emotions of Rita so deeply. I was shocked and did not expect the coaches to be like that. This is physical and mental abuse
It's not abuse for them. She chose to be the best at rhythmic gymnastics and that's how the coach is. That's why Russia is such a powerhouse in the sport. These girls know how she is, they know the grueling training that goes with it. She doesn't force them to be there. If they want to leave they can and girls do leave because it's too much. Rita wanted it bad enough so she put herself through that.
I always wondered why she looked so sad like she was dead inside when she performed and now I know why. This was difficult to watch the poor girl. I'm so glad she won the gold medal, a massive middle finger up to those abusive coaches. Her papa stayed to see her take the gold and for her to get back before he passed away 😪. Im hope she's much happier now 💜
If not for the coach of Russia, Mamun would be a simple smiling girl unknown to anyone. In Russia, there are real fighters who, after going through suffering, only get better. There is a good Russian saying: "Don't believe, don't be afraid, don't ask!".

Rita was always my favorite. The one that would shine when it mattered the most. That's what she showed us in Rio. However, this docu showed people what RG is like. Being a sports journalist, you simply know the reality of different sports. However it will never stop being heartbreaking to see how she was mistreated, same as many others before and after her. They all deserve so much more and all of this should never be the cost of a medal. The human being, the athlete matters most. More than any gold. That being said, I believe that Rita will be an amazing coach, I've seen the impressions after her masterclasses and she's just so warm and kind... Everything she knows those girls need. Everything she almost never had.
The translation is accurate, but also it doesn't capture the feeling, the mood of original words. They're very harsh and rude, dismissive, undervaluing... So, it feels more as "Whiplash of sport documentaries" than "Black Swan"...
As a Gymnast, I know the feeling of having a tough coach yelling cursing you most of the time. But your body and mind is just too numb and your determination is second to none. Words dont matter to you anymore
"You are not a human, you are a sportsman" ... Harsh as this sounds, I remember this from the documentary and I take it as my motto, I have beaten my limits, I have beaten cancer, and I am still ready to fight, no matter what. Be strong, people!
the averina twins are awful ! the hype is just that they are twins and now representing Russian in place of margaritra and yana. nothing special of either irina nor arina. if they made a documentary of yana it would just be one break down after an other. - yana is oh so slightly my even more favourite than margarita both are lovely human beings beautiful, talented and very hard working!
I think the right translation for the first lines would be: - My body is a bit relaxed.. Legs are tired. - It doesn't matter. You need to be in a good state of mind.
Lots of comments about Viner being abusive - Not saying I agree with Viner's methods but the context is important. If you know a little bit about the Russian gymnasts then you'd know that Mamum is actually a favourite of Viner and was given a lot of opportunities by her. Furthermore, If you read interviews with the director it will be clear that Mamun was only able to win Gold because she got such a treatment. What is really interesting is that Yana Kudryavtseva was never yelled at by Viner or "abused" because she was motivated differently (compared to Mamun). Viner knows full well that Mamun is not competitive enough on her own, she needs to be pushed really harshly, hence the yelling and abuse hurled at her. Honestly, it would have been much easier for Viner to give up on Mamun because there are so many girls who could have replaced her, including Kudryavtseva. But I can only say that Viner saw the potential in Mamun and liked her too much to go the easy way out.
To be honest, being so abusive towards someone can lead to 3 things. In some very extremely rare cases, success, in most cases, failure of an otherwise successful gymnast, and 3, hatred and who knows, maybe someone ends up dead.

Rhythmic gymnastics is a very difficult field, like ballet where one has to stretch his or her own limits everyday to be the number 1. If you need hugs, kisses and endless flattery - don’t choose this sport. Conveniently they show Viner’s harsh side more than her soft side, however if she were a man, she would not be questioned. The woman rules with an iron fist because it is her life’s work, she does this for her country, she can be harsh but these gymnasts have access to all the care they need - doctors, food, gym, vacations - she covers everything just for them not have to worry about it and focus on gymnastics. The field is over competitive and staying on top is a great cost. Parents, who bring their kids to her know exactly what they are getting into. I actually rooted for Yana at the Olympics because all her routines were memorable and much more difficult than Rita’s and her performances were just utter perfection. Hmm...well it's not just in Russia, everywhere in the world athletes are abused mentally, verbally, and even physically. Behind every gold medalist is a pushy, verbally abusive parent, verbally abusive coach, physically abusive coach or doctor or guardian etc. In addition, the amount of amphetamines, painkillers, steroids that most athletes on are drastically decreases their health and lifespans.
Rhythmic gymnastics is 90% an eating disorder competition and 10% athletics. That's why Russian girls are so good at it -- they are eating disorder champs!
Irina Viner is a legend! Abusive - yes, caring like for her own kids-hell yes! What’s for the analogy with Eteri and TAT - let’s not forget that they don’t have the same resources, Irina is not only very powerful, but her husband is a billionaire. But these are for sure legendary women!
Anyone who knows if this documentary is going to be on Netflix? Or anyone who knows where to watch this documentary with English subtitles, without having to use a credit card (dont have one and live in the Netherlands)
Just in case you were wondering this is NOT a film for kids or sensitive person, there’s plenty abussive images, curses and terrible behavior (by trainer)
Omg I remember watching this on tv many years ago then wen I heard of this Bangladeshi-Russian gymnast many years later I was like...she looks familiar and I find out now that she’s the girl who was on the doc me and my dad watched all those years ago, we had no idea she was Bengali 😯😯
But she does care ...belive me she cares about all the gymnasts even after their life in sport its over ...she helps them to have a life after sport and tries to make amends with ex gymnasts that were a little bit upset with her like yana batyrichina and daria dimitrieva.
Irina knows what she is doing, but this documentary is a montage, it is not real, it cannot be real when you have cameras and you know you will be captured.
This training system leads to success only when you don't have competition. The economic collapse in Bulgaria in the 90's left Russia without the biggest competitor, but times are changing and many countries are already developing rhythmic gymnastics .. I hope "people" like Irina Wiener will stay away from sports!
Just watched it, I'm so mad and sad right now, they should've called this doc movie "a Mental Abuse" instead of "Over the Limit", what kind of monster was that couch? for a piece of metal she took life and the soul from her body, I'm pretty sure she was mot of a downer than a helper and she would have won and probably performed better with a different coach, what did she win at the end? she left her family for ages, she lost her father, she is broken from body and soul. I used to love gymnasts, but now after watching this, "At the Heart of Gold", and "Athlete A", I started to hate gymnastic sport, they are getting recruited very young like a soldier to fulfill someone else's dream, and they get lift behind later with sadness and broken soul and body just like soldiers, this sport needs to be changed from the ground up, from the judges, the scores, the coach, everything otherwise it's not fan anymore to watch since this abuse is almost trending with all the countries just to compete for medals. Some may say the end justify the means but it doesn't, there are a lot of Athletes who won gold medal like Simone Biles without such abusive coach.
You probably never loved sport, if you were obsessed with sport and competitive spirit you would know better. Noone pushes anyone to stay at the gym, there is a line of competitors ready to take your place.
Doctors made Biles mentally disabled by injecting her with tranquilizers. I'm very sorry for Simone. You are far from the world of Russian rhythmic gymnastics. Despite the complexity and toughness of this profession, the best gymnasts win championships and olympiads. In addition to fame, they also receive a lot of prize money, advertising money. After completing a career, they show themselves on television, in show business, in business and in politics.
No medal is ever worth the humiliation and suffering. Big sport is utterly abusive and toxic in Russia. And if you are a good parent and want your child to be happy - you must immediately take him, her, them away from it!
I just watched it and i am confused. How are these coaches helping in any way ? It feels like they got lucky, they have a extremly talanted girl in the team, and they just bully her, and make it even harder for her. Maybe the documentation is supposed to look like that, so it makes no real sence. I have to doubt, that this is actually how the training looks like. Maybe the old women is just a money giver or sort of, who has no real impact on the training team. This is how it looks to me.
It's a tactic used in Russia, making you feel like shit to motivate to push harder. They use group coaching too to put you in competition mood every day so if your teammate does it better, you have to live with it. It's very shitty but athletes accept it cause it's the only way there.
It's very ungrateful of Margarita to beef on the one person who gave the LAST chance to achieve her Olympic dream. Gymnastics is hard, very hard. And only the ones with strong body and mind win. Margarita won gold. But her character is weak. She decided to take revenge AFTER she has achieved the dream of her life. She would have been NOTHING without her coach Irina Viner. Besides, she could have quitted anytime but she didn't. So her urge for gold was bigger than her feelings. Suddenly after the Olympics she remembered that trainings were hard. Who would have thought!

Omg I remember watching this on tv many years ago then wen I heard of this Bangladeshi-Russian gymnast many years later I was like...she looks familiar and I find out now that she’s the girl who was on the doc me and my dad watched all those years ago, we had no idea she was Bengali 😯😯

Super temat, brawo dla autorki filmu.
1:19 wow that was harsh and funny at the same time lol!!!
What is the outro song of the documentary?

great movie her professor was cruel and bad with Mamun but she win the olympic gold medal maybe by the same professor ....
Winner said Winner is the best coach
Viner
But she does care ...belive me she cares about all the gymnasts even after their life in sport its over ...she helps them to have a life after sport and tries to make amends with ex gymnasts that were a little bit upset with her like yana batyrichina and daria dimitrieva.

She told Dina Averina in the documentary Irina
Irina knows what she is doing, but this documentary is a montage, it is not real, it cannot be real when you have cameras and you know you will be captured.
Where can I watch this movie?
This training system leads to success only when you don't have competition. The economic collapse in Bulgaria in the 90's left Russia without the biggest competitor, but times are changing and many countries are already developing rhythmic gymnastics .. I hope "people" like Irina Wiener will stay away from sports!

can somebody tell me what did she say by the end of the trailer which was translated into english '' god help me''
She’s says „with god“ lots of Russian gymnasts do this before performances to ask for help
what's the music until 1:15??
Cool girls!❤
can somebody tell me please where i could watch this online
amazon prime, itunes
I have uploaded it with English subtitles!
Where can I watch this?? Belgium doen't have it in itunes...
I watched it on Amazon Prime for $0.99! Amazing movie.
No medal is ever worth the humiliation and suffering. Big sport is utterly abusive and toxic in Russia. And if you are a good parent and want your child to be happy - you must immediately take him, her, them away from it!
Film ne podlinii, naigrannii, Viner NE takaya I nikogda ne govorit " Naher poshla, tvar, ne bzdi, ti govno" Vse eto sdelano dlia filma ,uzhasno lzhivo ,portit repytatsiu Viner kstati. Viner I Zaripova NE TAKIE. Film uzhasnii
I hated the finale. She won gold, but she lost those last few months w/her family. Life is not fair.
W.O.W.

If you will do a movie with twin averina you will be the best
Where can you view this documentary/film?

I am from Russia and I am very proud of our athletes. but how do the coaches Irina Viner It's a monster, She doesn't care about injuries, pain, she doesn't know what sympathy is. It is sad that the fulfillment of the Kremlin's plan is more important to her than a human attitude.
In all this bs world we live in its good that there are stll people like this. Thats how you make tough people , winners, thats what we used to be...to win you need to suffer
There would be no Margarita Mamun Olympic champion without Irina Viner
0:30 then she said not about shorts, but about black underpants
Yana Kydryavtseva was technically better. What a shame it was when she dropped her apparatus.

i like her black shorts
“In her letter, she urged Boris to support a ‘green pedestrian bridge’ with trees and plants that would bestow ‘great loveliness’ across the Thames between Temple and Lambeth.” Boris Johnson, the gambler. Tom Bower.
“Those black shorts are awful”-no her outfit is
I don't know she was a amazing actress
Can you be a gymnast if your not double jointed? It seems there's a genetic advantage 😢!
Kinda disgusting.
Rita was always grateful and thankful to her coaches. What are you even talking about?
