Salaam, an excellent and concise analogy on the topic discussed above. I like your perspective Mufti Abu Layth Al-Maliki, may Allah reward you for your efforts. Will be eagerly waiting for your new videos.
I don't necessarily follow a single school of thought but instead compare the views of each schools of though to ascetain what was the prophet trying to achieve thus guiding my actions. To those that say you must follow 1 school of thought to them I reply "Can you tell me which school of thought the Prophet followed". I'm not interested in subscribing to the opinion of men but only interested in the guidance given to us from THE ALMIGHTY. Each school of thought is subject to each Imams philosophy. This was what the Prophet came to stamp out and Alhamdulillah today we find ourselves completely oblivious that our approach to Islam has become anti-Islam.
Assalaamu alaykum, Mufti ... I do follow a madhab, and it make a lot of sense as to why someone should not be taking from the original sources and self interpreting. However, I have been asked some specific questions that I have been unable to answer and also have been pondering in regards to those who follow the scholars but are okay with inter-madhab following. 1) I understand how some matters like wudu and salah are connected and require the same madhab to be followed. (ibadah-centric) However, what would be incorrect or problematic with performing Hajj or Ramadan by another madhab (this relates to question #2) other than if someone did it purely for nafs? (non-ibadah-centric matters) I have heard some attribute lesser or more lenient adherence to madhabs for matters like business and such. I am wondering are there any incorrect or problematic issues that may come up with taking from different madhabs? [reasons for taking from different madhahabs could be personal choice/ease/a respected shaykh has that opinion though he may be from another madhab] 2) If I met Mufti Abu Layth (Maliki, Hanafi) and he stated such and such opinion (non-ibadah) and then another day I met Sh. Musa Furber (Shaa'fi, Hanbali) and he stated such and such opinion on a different matter (non-ibadah), I respect both. Or I meet Sh. Hamza Yusuf (Maliki) and Imam Zaid Shakir (Shaa'fi) and they give me opinions on various matters. Assume I am a Maliki, I have difficulty saying I will have not be taking the advice of the non-Maliki learned persons simply because they not Maliki. It is not a matter of nafs in this scenario (as it could be in #1) but respect of learned persons. Since their opinions are valid (and thus by definition, they themselves have put the work into figuring out various textual proofs), why is it not okay to take from someone not of your madhab? What are the problems or issues that may arise? These are the questions I have gotten (I have one more, but I did not want to overload on this first question), and myself have difficulty with answering these and frankly seeing issues with them (though I have decided to adhere to one madhab). Any help in this would be appreciated
