📚Description: Today we are taking a look at a 2000 Epiphone USA Collection John Lennon Signature "Revolution" '68 Casino in the Stripped Vintage Natural finish. These might say "epiphone" on the headstock but do not confuse them with the budget friendly epiphones of the late 90s/early 2000s. These were assembled in the USA with Gibson electronics and crafted in Japan's Terrada factory. Even not being a Beatles-head, this guitar is such a joy to play and I totally get why people ask as much as they do for these. I'd highly suggest trying one of these out!

That headstock though. Looks like huge black lips that are trying to kiss me. I pass. Although with a router and some paint you could reshape it into the open book Gibson type of headstock. Hope Epiphone will finally be able to use it I just can't see that atrocity anymore.
Do you ever go a single day without saying that "doofy" word? It definitely sounded better with new strings. Nice guitar.
That didn't last long.
I have one in Mint condition with case and all the case candy coa and everything all in its beautiful original case. If someone wants to buy just reply and we can switch information then
Has it sold already? What was the price?
I happen to be one of those "super beatles" guys and was inspired to buy my 2011 Japan made Casino Elitist model after watching the Get Back documentary. Best impulse buy I ever made. It is my favorite guitar in my stable next to my Tele.
One of the best sounding guitars I've heard on your channel. The bluesbreaker paired beautifully with it.
That headstock though. Looks like huge black lips that are trying to kiss me. I pass. Although with a router and some paint you could reshape it into the open book Gibson type of headstock. Hope Epiphone will finally be able to use it I just can't see that atrocity anymore.
@@EbonyPope The Casino is an original Epiphone Model, so it would be pretty ridiculous to give an Casino the Gibson Headshape treatment
@@EbonyPope how Lennon's was and how they were in 1965
@@henne4526your comment made me think (i already knew it) “one moment…i like a lot the epiphone guitars and i dont have an original model of them. So…next Guitar will be a casino (and i love Oasis, they used in the early days epiphone casinos and sheratons). Cheers
Japanese make the finest off-the-rack guitars in the world. Ive got the sunburst one. There also were a few overruns that gibson consigned to musicians friend that they sold for $1,100 in 2006. Out of some 30 guitars i own, this is the one I'd save if i only had time to grab one in case of fire. They are that good and no other runs of casinos compare.
That is where I got mine.
No complaints with the quality of my 65 IBJL Revolver
I have the Inspired by Lennon Indonesian build and it is a nice quality build overall, with Gibson p90's and better hardware also... surprisingly similar guitars as far as specs, just final assembly being a huge difference obviously! Mine was also a pawn shop rescue priced as a regular Casino... they really had no clue what they had!!! Thankfully, as it made it an affordable 40th birthday present from my wife!!
I love those finds. Not a guitar, but I got my Rolleiflex camera for $40AUD because the lady at the garage sale had it in a box of Box Brownies...and thought it was the same. You bet your butt I slammed two twenties into her palm and sprinted out of there.

@@EbonyPope thats how Epiphone has been doing headstocks before Gibson even owned them... They won't change it.
Sounds just like the original. That's a huge win for Epiphone. Wish I had one.
I bought one of these new back when. The serial number on the headstock is the same number that was on John's guitar. It's the same on all of the 1965 revolutions. I think is also on all 1965 of the sunbursts.
With the original blue label inside …yep
Casinos are fantastic guitars. I've got one from the late 90's & it's one of my favourite go-to guitars. I always have it right next to my amp. Seriously, if you like to write your own stuff, get one of these. They absolutely sing.
When you started playing “Revolution” I was looking away and had to do a double take cuz that guitar sounds *just* like the record haha. I want it now.
Even cheap Casinos are really nice. Especially the flat olive drab
They made these guitars like Kramer made their “American” guitars in the late 80s. Those were ESP parts assembled in NJ.
I love my Casino...it's light as a feather and sounds great unplugged but plugged in, the difference from 7 on the volume to 10 is amazing, clean to dirt without a pedal. Just a great singer songwriter guitar.
As far as I know, Lennon used his Casino either mic’d, DI’d, or a mix of both for “Dear Prudence” instead of an an actual acoustic.
I sold at least 25 of these Lennon Casinos when they were New over a year span and my only regret is that I did not keep one for myself ! I remember they came with the other knob in the bag with the case candy...Great Instrument ! Rudy @GRNY Inc.
My casino is my favorite 😍
Mine is not the USA version but I don't regret buying it. Except for the year long wait for it. Also mine is an almost the same color but you can still see the woodgrain. And the F holes are painted black on the edges. Its a real fun guitar to play plugged in or acoustically.
What a cool guitar! Sounds great! Epi can knock it out of the park when they want to!
The best John signature is his Les Paul Special with the Charlie Christian pickup from his solo era in New York/Los Angeles.
remember seeing these as a kid and loving the feel and being a big Lennon fan but broke after all i was 10
Got at 2014 Sunburst Inspired by John Lennon and love it. The weight, feel, acoustic or electric is awesome. Great for songwriting, home studio and jamming.
I have that guitar too.
Thanks for a great review of a classic guitar used by a great artist. You played differently too😊 Nice Blackbird!
IMO, the USA casinos are the best guitars with the Epiphone name on 'em.
They better be for $3200!
I tried USA Casino in shop , yes they sound ok the back of the guitar looks looks amazing but honestly the worn Casinos sound just as good and they do look great , I ended up buying two , the black and the worn blue & put a bigsby on it .USA ones not worth the money if they were priced bout £800mite think about it but they are way overpriced! & if I ever want to change the pick ups on my worn Casino it still cheaper than USA .
I had a stock overseas-made Casino and loved it. Bought a US made Casino as soon as they became available and love it too ( especially since it cost so much!) For a geezer like me who was around when the Beatles were still together and remembers the impact they had on music and culture, there’s something magic about a Casino.
Great comparison to the Elitist series. I have one of the SG's and it is phenomenal!
The elitist were great guitars
@@steveparish9210Oh man, and still are!
i have a PRE-elitist eb3, the PRE-elitist had the open book headstock
13:34 WAS THAT THE SOUTH PARK OUTRO SOLO
Sounds a bit like it
thanks for doing this one … one of my favorite guitars …and was always confused about the versions of it
I actually belly laughed when I saw the "ELITIST" truss rod cover. That should be on every Gibson product made going forward, lol.
those are epiphones only
@@JEG69 I know.... it was a joke.
Nice. I have the 65 Limited Edition Casino.
This is pretty awesome! Would be really neat to see a comparison with a current production casino. I'm pretty sure they are still making them.
Great sounding guitar....GREAT 😊
I have a 2014 Reissue made in Quindao China and lately it has been my guitar to play it feels so natural but then I did learn to play and stil have a Gibson ES225 T 1957 but with a Single Humbucker, I bought it from a kid who destroyed the tuners and the original Black Dog Ear and cracked the side along the jack- But this Epi just feels like butter in my hands- just think I learned Rush Sabbath Hendrix etc on the gibson when I was in High School haha Im 65 now but this Epiphone feels like home to me!!!
I’ve got one of these and it’s amazing. I love it. I used to have the “Inspired by” Casino but this one is far superior.
Casinos are amazing!!! I always pick them instead of ES335 type
I have one of these and an original 1965 Casino. There's no comparison, the reproduction is heavier and prone to feedback a lot. The original is one of the best guitars I've ever owned
This is the best sounding guitar for some time Austin....😎
Favorite of my gits is my Casino. P90’s really bark. Customized with Guild style harp tailpiece, black top hats, and black guard. Looks great.
Love your forensic analysis on these Gibson guitars - helps me appreciate them all the more.
That’s how it was spec’d out for Lennon. I don’t think he knew anything about selecting Grover’s over Kluson’s etc. He just wanted ed the guitar sanded. Also Macka has the same guitar they bought at the same time except his has the original finish. According to one article I read, it is his favourite guitar!
Yes Paul did say it was his favorite. Don’t know if it was a sentimental favorite or just because he liked playing it.
@@TheQakman To this day he'll say his Casino is his favorite. I have the a 2022 USA Casino similiar to McCartney's (Gibson headstock, but no Bigsby.) Being a hollow body, the thing can really howl.
Paul’s is a 1962 model (with the older style headstock), and he bought it in December 1964. John and George bought their 1965 models in early 1966, just prior to the Revolver sessions. Other than the Bigsby on George’s and the little black toggle ring on John’s, they were pretty much identical. George also sanded the finish off of his and put on gold Grovers.
It is Paul’s favorite electric guitar, though he seems to love his lefty Les Pauls as well.
@@TheQakmanBoth. He loves the sound and the feedback. But he is a sentimental guy when it comes to gear. He still has his first amp, and I believe he still has his first archtop acoustic from the Quarrymen days.
So pleased you did this! Always wondered the differences to regular Terada elitist casinos and there’s quite a few. Cosmetics aside, I already knew about 5 ply top but the neck heel is different. Terada usually use a multi part neck heel (I have an elite 335 and casino elitist and they are the same). This one appears to have a completely solid neck heel. The pickups while looking similar (minus sticker for epiphone USA p90) read quite different a dc meter. Also both my Terada guitars came with Japanese pots - nobles? The pots use metric measurements. Fair to say epiphone put a lot of effort into the design of this guitar and it is substantially different from regular elites or elitists.
Epiphone needs to bring this one and his sunburst version back made in the China factory with Gibson USA parts and sell it for $1500.
American companies need to stop feeding communist China.
lol. They should, it would be nice. They did fairly recently issue US Epiphones. and they were 3k+
Do a satin nitro finish on it like they did with the Les Paul Tribute and it would be a staple in the epiphone lineup.
You could buy a MIC Casino and replace all the parts with Gibson parts yourself for way under 1500
@@cor-manDon't waste your money I own one! Very two-dimensional can't play high on the neck looks good on the wall that's about it.
Very nice guitar Trogly. Crazy construction. Wow nice job with the camera.
Interesting choice of Blackbird for your test play
I have a ‘02 Epiphone elite (very first run of elite/elitist) 335. It’s been so good I haven’t bought a Gibson 335.
Great episode Trogly!🎸👍
Wow. That was a fantastic sounding guitar!
Sounds great.
i've been waiting for this review!! wish i could get one of these they have gone to crazy prices now. thanks trogly would love you to compare this one to the "inspired by" series
I’d expect that the IBJL same as a us/elitist.
It’s the lower price range are the basic affordable quality ie build quality and pup replacement
I bought one of the 2 left handed Revolution Casinos. Amazing guitar
Thanks David for another treat, your 68 Casino JLR, good find! I'll take 'maple birch maple birch maple' over 'maple poplar maple' any day for resilience. Nice it's resonant as well. Playing a Paul tune on John's guitar? Heresy!
KEEP IT! Play only that guitar faithfully every day,You sound great with THIS guitar.
Salutations Austin!
Nice Casino! Looks and sounds great!
I just so happen to own one of these instruments, however, although it has the same finish, it is not one of the Signature models, but it is just as one would have bought one brand new back in the sixties, with the plain finish, so I am not sure if it is exactly the same finish as this specific version, and mine also has a matched set of reflector knobs, but everything else is just the same, with a standard Epiphone case. It plays and sounds just as this one does as well. It’s a very nice instrument!
Thanks for reviewing this instrument!
Please have an excellent and awesome day!
☀️✨🎸
Bro! you make the best videos, especially on Gibson and Epiphone, I wish you would branch out a bit but this is top tier
Another great vid!
Any tips on how to stop the pickup selector from vibrating at certain frequencies?
Made in Terada Japan 》》》》》 Made in USA
Does Terada make the professional series Gretsch s?
@@steveparish9210 yes they do
Me likey , Ive always loved that guitar though Ive yet to get one , Ive heard that those pickups are particularly good as opposed to the plastic covered P-90s ,that they ROCK ! Its funny that many Beatles fans think the song ' Revolution ' is a pro revolutionary tune though it is NOT , the lyrics are a warning , not a call to arms...SO !!!??? Thanks Trogly !
I have one of the AIUSA Sheratons, essentially the John Lee Hooker Sheraton without his branding. Excellent guitar; arguably better than the Elitist models. Ultimately, they were put on clearance for $1k and were an absolute steal.
What a great sounding guitar.
That's a keeper ! Can do any type of music ! Build quality is 🔥💯😁
That’s a nice guitar. Thanks for sharing..
It looks awesome.
I wanted this guitar so bad when it came out!! Just got the Dave Grohl model and it’s my first semi-hollow and I absolutely love it. May need a full hollow body in the collection soon!
11:04 Epiphone letters move hahahah 😮 weird but nice camera effect
Edit: its more likely a light effect visible at 11:39 too hahah
great historical guitar for beatle fans like me. Lennon like the twangy guitars like this and the rickenbacker guitars he and george played. george had one of these too, dont think he stripped his body
Wauw, that guitar sounds good!
I am envious of this one
It's been fun over the years watching your guitar playing vastly improved I was very impressed with your playing on this video keep up the good work we love you trogly ❤
It always surprises me just how much woo is on an Epi headstock! I have an early 2000s Epi acoustic and the headstock is just so oversized, lengthways, its as quirky,as it is odd, as it is clearly an Epi lol
That headstock though. Looks like huge black lips that are trying to kiss me. I pass. Although with a router and some paint you could reshape it into the open book Gibson type of headstock. Hope Epiphone will finally be able to use it I just can't see that atrocity anymore.
@@EbonyPope Well, thats a vision that I will carry around with me forever "huge black lips" 🤣 Never really thought ofit that way! I quite like the headstock its just sooooooo long!
Currently have an Eltlst Sheraton, have had other elitist models all excellent. I like this one.
Sounds great
Sold fast lol. I remember seeing the ad when these launched way back when. I wouldn't mind having the sunburst version but I prefer George's for the Bigsby and slightly different burst.
Best looking headstock shape on an Epiphone! Mine has the crown inlay.
It’s a Riviera or dot u have then Casinos don’t have Crown inlay . Riviera , Casino , Sheraton & dot all have same body , only the Casino is fully hollow and has p90s , I have two Casinos & Riviera P93 also had a Sheraton sold it .
1st time I've actually been jealous watching your channel! 😮
Holy shit. I’ve never felt the need for a 335 style guitar - and Dave Grohl’s signature guit came close - but Damian’s one of those!!!
That would of been cool if you played i'm so tired or happiness is a warm gun on that guitar or anything else from the white album. It really captures John Lennons sound from that album. Outside of that I like that guitar but would prefer one witt he the tobacco sunburst
Almost two thousand of them...holy crap, it's kinda hard to imagine just 500 guitars let alone what a random production run would be
I have a Casino..... IT'S AWESOME!
Yeah I really dig it also!
Dream guitar
My dream guitar 🎉
this guitar sounds so good
I have the first or second year of the reissue since new (1996) . Glossy not sanded, and the metal came shiny new but quickly ages on its own. Definitely ditch the pick guard as it gives a buzz no matter what you do ! Very nice machine however 😎
My ‘63 Casino has black knobs with silvery indent caps with printing “tone” and “volume”, so perhaps the gold knobs were his mod?
On later years (even after he sanded it) footage shows that he broke original bridge dial…then replaced with a random all black dial
I wish I could afford a John Lennon Rickenbacker!
You should check out the tamio okuda Epiphone coronet
I’ve never been able to figure out on this guitar, what is under the pickguard screw by the neck. It looks like black plastic, but I can’t tell.
Sounds amazing, looks amazing! I have no doubt that these Japanese made guitars are much superior to the Gibson USA made ones. These P90's sound incredible though! Are these the regular alnico V Gibson P90's you can buy anywhere, or are they the alnico 3 version?
This guitar just has that 'it' factor. It's one of the best sounding guitars, Epiphone or otherwise I've seen on your channel ever.
That’s the Casino for ya!!!….nothing else like it…a one off original classic
I want one of these so goddamn bad
"We're the trippy cartoon Beatles"
Casino like that is cool sounding and nice looking, but that upper fret access...
Sweet!
Ican tell you liked the guitar !
Thanks for sharing!¡!!😊🎉❤ 10:57
On the older MIJ guitars, the electronics were the weak spot on them, so this is the best of both worlds.
I've had a couple of MIJ Epiphones, built for the Japanese market, made along side the Elitists in the same factory and they were very nice guitars.
Made in Japan > Made in America
Already gone .. buff said. Always refreshing to see another guitar other than an LP and the casinos are some of my fav’s
Let’s ROCK!
That thing sounds great with some gain. Impressive for a hollow body
I have an Indonesian warn denim Casino, it’s great. I did try four before I found one I really liked though
I own the sunburst version
