- In this episode of my series “Walks in Hampshire”, I take a walk in and around the village of Longparish, which is situated about 4 miles East of Andover. Once again I am accompanied by my Whippet, Logan.
I park my car by the church and start my five mile circular walk with a wander through the village. Longparish is made up of five small hamlets & I walk along the main street, past the cricket pitch (Longparish Cricket Club was established in 1878), The Plough Inn and a number of pretty thatched cottages.
After visiting the Church of St Nicholas, I head West along the Test Way towards Forton. Sadly I don't get the see any of the river but Forton itself is a quite enchanting hamlet.
Crossing the B3048, I head North over the disused railway line towards Ridgeway Copse which is on the edge of Harewood Forest. At this point, I take a detour to explore the Deadman's Plack Monument (which marks the supposed site where King Edgard killed hos favourite courtier, Aethelwald, in 963AD.
I then retrace my steps and follow The Middleway (a quite country road) back towards Longparish. Along the way, I cross over the disused railway line (over a road bridge) and re-join the Test Way.
My final destination is The Plough back in the village.

One more amazing old church. What a gem. WOW.
It is a lovely church in a very pretty village. :)
Brilliant so very enjoyable what a lovely part of Hampshire
Thank you Craig. It was my first visit there & some of those cottages were a delight to pass by!
Great deer footage and photo Dave! Once again a lovely video
Thank you. Yes, it was a lovely surprise to spot them!
Not tried Saxon, Dave, one to add to my ever-expanding list. That church certainly was splendid, every window seemed to be stained glass, obviously a well-heeled area.
I was rather taken by that Saxon! One of the joys of "researching" some of these pubs is the chance to "test out" new ales!
Dave it still amazes me how ( it shouldn’t though) beautiful the countryside is there. I would love to see this and all the other villages you have visited. You never disappoint on showing the beauty of the churches and homes you come across on these most lovely walks Thank you so much 👏🏻Take care Dave and Logan☀️
Thank you Melissa .Both Longparish & Forton are such pretty villages for sure.
Most enjoyable loved the Autumn like colours, thanks again Dave for a lovely country walk.
Thank you John. We were lucky to be able to enjoy some great weather that day.
Hello Dave and Logan. Lovely walks around there. Oddly enough, despite living just a few miles away, I've never been into Harewood Forest. I'm afraid almost all of the river Test is leased or owned by fishermen, so you won't get very close to it until you reach Wherwell. That was a nice refreshing walk, reminding us of late summer days.
Thanks Lionel. The River Test is one of my favourite rivers in Hampshire. Luckily, as you say, there are opportunities to see it "up close" on sections further South.
The course of true love did never run smooth - great story at Deadmans Plack and not surprised the lady ended up in a nunnery!! The deer were special - as were the pint and crisps at the end!! Thanks for another great watch.
Thanks Jean. It was quite "spooky" in Deadman's Plack Copse.... quite a strange atmosphere!
Another wonderful walk, bringing back wonderful memories, thanks Dave
Thank you Kate. :)
Amazing walking tour through the village in the countryside with wonderful trail and forest
Thank you Keith and indeed thanks for watching.
Hi Dave was lovely to see your nice sunny walk! Although was in September and as you said quite autumnal . Just cheered us up to see the blue skies and lovely green fields. Hampshire is so big haven’t heard of half of these places! Is a nice adventure watching your video as usual. Glad Logan enjoyed his salty dog crisps God bless from Sheila and ralph
Thank you both. It is certainly a pretty part of Hampshire around there for sure.
lovely walk through the village, Harewood Forest, so cool to see old Deadman’s Plack monument - enchanted forest
Thanks Cath. It was certainly "atmospheric" in Deadman's Plack Copse!
Another beautiful and informative film, thanks again Dave and Logan
Thank you Jade. Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for watching.
Thank you so much for the time and effort put into this video, I grew up here and am now living in Australia, taking my 14 year old daughter to see the place I grew up in, for the first time in June, was christened in that church, thank you
Thank you & indeed thanks for sharing your personal memories of such a lovely place.
Another fantastic hike Dave, can't believe Logan was after the blackberries 😊
Oh yes .... "pit stops" for blackberries are mandatory for Logan!
My wife was raised in Longparish! Sadly only the rich could live here now.
What a lovely place to have grown up in, I should imagine.
Oh Dave, lovely video, the church was beautiful and it was so nice to see the deer 🦌 fabulous, thank you 🥰 a lovely walk and music 🎼
Thank you Lynn. It was a thrill to spot the deer in that field.
@@DaveFord oh I bet Dave, I love seeing deer 🦌 I also meant to say how I love that Logan enjoys his blackberries, he’s such a cutie 🐕 the way he trots along, bless him 🥰
The Plough does a great Sunday lunch!
That is good to know. Thanks for watching Ken.
