  • Here is a rare piece of Chicago house music history.
J.M. Silk (Jack Master Silk) was a group formed by Steve "Silk: Hurley featuring vocalist Keith Nunnally. Yes, THAT Steve "Silk" Hurley who next recorded house music's first number one single "Jack Your Body" which became a groundbreaking international club hit and firmly cemented the world focus on Chicago house music.
He was the first to branch out to encompass pop and hip-hop within the house framework. His single "Shadows of Your Love" was the first release on DJ International and set the Hurley sound blueprint: a cavalcade of stuttering beats balancing an insistent melodic quality which mirrored Nunnally's soulful vocals.
Hurley spent more of the late '80s and early '90s working on production and remixing than actual recording; he provided club treatments for the likes of Michael Jackson, Madonna, Janet Jackson, CeCe Peniston, Inner City, New Order, Black Box and En Vogue.
And to think... I remixed, edited and videotaped part of Steve and Keith's first music video in my Chicago apartment. How's that for Lollipop history! For a HQ audio download of this and more banging 80's videos visit lollipopsclub80svideos.blogspot.com
