It's Buffy's boyfriend drama with Angel and Riley and Spike and that one night stand guy in college. I find the main characters in most shows to be my least favourites.
Normal again was not a "reveal" that Sunnydale was fake, it's an attempt at instilling doubt in the viewer, but it doesn't really work on many levels, most obviously by the existence of Angel as a show
Loving reading the comments. Cause everyone is saying your wrong but for a different reason. Thats whats so great about Buffy. Its funny, exciting, scary, romantic. Theres something for everyone. Always said if i ever venture into podcasting Buffy would probably be what i would cover . New to your channel. Great work. Will watch more of your videos later at work when its quiet
Im a huge huge buffy fan. I watched it when it first aired, i was the perfect age of 12, so it fit my teenage angst years lol i even graduated high school when it ended, it felt like it was another part of growing up and letting go. I do not agree with seeing red or some of your choices but this is your list and your opinion. It's hard for me to pick my favorite episode. But season 5 and 3 are my top faves, i go back and forth. Buffy is my favorite character and easily one of the best written television characters of all time. Giles is my second favorite. My favorite comedy episode is band candy and living conditions. My favorite sad episode is the body. My favorite scary episode is helpless. My favorite epic episode is the gift. I could go on and on. Kudos to making this list. I know this must have taken an insane amount of work.
I love that you have chosen some of the less obvious ones at the higher end of the list, it's nice to hear different view points on these episodes And I hate to be the one to ask but ....Angel ranking next?
Thank you for your kind words. I've not actually seen Angel, except for S1 in like 2011, and I wasn't too into it. I hear it gets better though. I've kept my Disney+ subscription just in case I do decide to watch Angel. We'll see!
@avideogameodyssey3204 yeah it's like Buffy in that it picks up in the second season. So hopefully you get round to seeing it Even if you don't, thank you for making this video, it was really interesting
Words can’t express my huge relief that Dopplegangland was at the top of this list, since I was growing concerned at no mention of Band Candy. My other favourites from this season are Anne, Earshot and Lovers Walk. Overall, though, I am not too keen on Season 3. Faith was too much ( although played very well ) and Angel hanging around Buffy was boring, so that I was glad when he left Sunnydale to star in his own series.
i'm so glad i'm not the only one who hates seeing red. the most popular opinion i see about it is that people dislike spike's actions on it obviously but still think it's a well written effective episode, and i on the cotnrary find it aboherent. i understand they needed to give spike something for him to do that would be so bad it would finally make him actually want to get his soul back, but i despise how it ended up centering a storyline about sexual assault on the assaulter's development. it was just an awful idea from the beginning. i love buffy, it is my favorite show, but it has a clear history of not knowing how to deal with sexual assault storylines properly
Couldn't agree more! This spurring his redemption arch also feels really weird. I'm not sure it's the sort of subject matter the show is especially good at dealing with.
Considering all the damage it did that Season 7 couldn't really repair (the repairs creating further problems - case in point Empty Places), Seeing Red is *by far* the worst episode of the show.
These 5 were the absolute pits. Beer Bad Doublemeat Palace Go Fish Where The Wild Things Are Goodbye Iowa Top Ten absolute belters 1. The Gift 2. Fool For Love 3. The Body 4. Restless 5. Passion 6. The Zeppo 7. The Wish 8. Conversations With Dead People 9. Chosen 10. I Only Have Eyes For You
I disagree with a lot of your opinions but agree 100% about the Buffy-Angel relationship. It doesn’t do much for me and by season 3 is such a slog. Never cared too much for Angel on the Buffy show. Thankfully Angel is great on his spin-off and I like his relationships with Cordy and Darla way more than I do with Buffy.
All the characters that ported over to the the Angel series were totally one-dimensional in BTVS, but when Angel, Cordelia and Wesley went to Angel their characters thrived, especially Wesley who possibly had the greatest character arc of all.
Hand scanners absolutely have existed for decades, and Xander is The Worst. But other than that, this was a blast to watch. Dawn and Harmony defense squad!
I know we all have different opinions, but I was shocked to see Dead Things at #144. That is one of the best episodes of the entire series in my opinion. Season six is easily my favorite season of the show and this episode just so masterfully takes so many elements of the season and twists it into a dark dramatic episode. It's the first time we start seeing the The Trio (or at least Warren) as the real big bad of the season. Also fantastic acting by JM and SMG. The scene where Buffy tells Tara everything that is going on with her and Spike breaks my heart every time I see it. It's just so real.
I haven’t watched Buffy since I was a child in the 90s but really enjoyed watching this and relearning things about the show that I had forgotten. Plus, I laughed at that edit of Giles!
Made it to 131, by which point Go Fish (worst episode) hadn't made an appearance and my three most rewatched episodes (dark willow) had been included as some of the worst episodes in the show.
Sorry you lost me at at putting Spike near the bottom of the character list, but I appreciate your opinion which may be unpopular. Everyone has one unpopular Buffy opinion. Mine is Tara, loved by many, but I feel perhaps the most boring character ever. Her incessant bickering with Willow was just tiresome a lot of the time. Sorry, but she could never replace Oz, the philosophical, laid back, lead guitarist in an Indie Band, who also acquired Superpowers too.
Bad Eggs got my lowest rating on a recent rewatch where my wife and I reviewed and rated every episode. Edited to say: Actually, I think it was Beer Bad. Gotta consult my notes.
I personally love the more melodramatic and plot episodes of buffy, but season 3 + 5 are the best! I actually like Dawn as well! Faith is my personal favorite character followed by anya and willow (willow I think is the best written character). My favorite episodes are: 1 The Gift 2 Becoming (2) 3 Doppelgangland 4 The Body 5 Who Are You 6 Tabula Rasa 7 Chosen 8 Selfless 9 Villains 10 I Only Have Eyes 4 U
@@avideogameodyssey3204 I really enjoyed it! Need to re-watch Buffy as a lot of these episodes have completely disappeared from my memory. My favourite episode is the highest ranked of the 3 'holy grail' episodes, was just such an effective and emotional shock. And I too really liked the end of season 5, that really stood out to me too.
Ted is a great episode. The only part of Buffy I haven’t seen is part of season 6. Don’t know why I skipped that. I think maybe because it was going too slowly. I sorta think seasons 2 and 3 are peak Buffy and it sorta goes downhill somewhat when they enter college. It’s just different. They are less of the cohesive Scooby gang, they have trouble finding quality big bads and they take quality villains like spike and faith and put them on the good side. That doesn’t make for great tv. That just homogenized characters. When you have a bad person but can feel how they still care and want to be part of something, that makes them relatable and therefore a complex person. Anyways, I love season 2 episodes Lie to Me and Passion. Fool for Love is also great.
Interestingly, my 3 least favorite episodes are: 3. I Robot...You, Jane 2. Where the Wild Things Are 1. Hell's Bells But, everyone has their own opinion. Angel is also my least favorite character. I find him quite boring and uninteresting. Pretty solid ranking overall.
Angelus (sp?) is the best villain the show had though. Sorta crazy cuz I didn’t think the actor had the chops to be that charismatic. But he certainly did. Detestable but still well acted.
@@zachharris3040 I'm going to have to disagree with you there. The Mayor and Glory were much more entertaining than Angelus. Even as Angelus, I think he's meh.
Yeah, I love the goofy comedy episodes and she does a lot of 'em. I did have a segment ranking the 10 more so most used writers, with JE being at the top, but the video was too long and unweidly as it was so I cut it.
Only watched a minute and 10 seconds in which you said you'd put Spike in the bottom of the male characters, and I'm out of here 😂 He is literally one of the best written and acted characters in TV history and is probably the richest, most complicated in the show Like him or not, that is besides the point This is where your video seems like an attempt to stir anger and get comments telling you you're wrong, aka reach Here is your comment.. but other than that .. meh
Yeah, I would agree with you up until S6. The storyline with buffy, the assault in the bathroom and his redemption arc kind of soured me on him. This took me dozens of hours to make, I wouldnt do that just to spite people. Believe it or not this is just my actual opinion.
Because he didn't put your favourite character first he's automatically trying to stir anger? I despise Spike as a character. In season 2 he was great, season 4 loved his comedy, but they didnt know what to do with him and he became a complete caricature. From season 5 and the moment the 'i love you' storyline started everyone else on the show became a lot dumber and his constant flip flop from being written as a 'souled' like vampire with compassion and empathy to stalker and pervert were out right gross at times. And don't get me started on season 6. Making Spike the victim, making the audience turn against Buffy for having mental health and PTSD (yes that happened at the time) to then use the SA of Buffy as a plot point to develop him further and having buffy just accept it 'cos he didnt have a soul'. It was so damn problematic and she should have staked him. By season 7 I was done with the character and soon as it was shown he was killing again the storyline bored me to tears, he should have been dust.
"Where the Wild Things Are" is such a terrible episode of ANY TV show. Tracey Forbes also wrote the idiotic "Beer Bad" and I think is easily the worst Buffy writer. Steven S. DeKnight (Seeing Red and Dead Things) might be nearly equal to her if not for a couple good episodes.
Dude... started off great; off the beaten track and divergent, but it got a lil try hard at the end. Maybe I'll feel better when I sober up. Selfless should have been way higher.

The episodes I love are The Pack, Nightmares, Hush, The Body, Out of Sight Out Of Mind.
