Absolutely beautiful drone weather and some really great shots. The Vandalia shot was interesting in that the echo of the horn was really pronounced. 6000 and 6004 looked in fine form and I liked the LED lights on the 6004. Great shots of all that old power sitting there too. Makes me wonder if they will ever see more track time.
Thank you sir! It was an absolutely beautiful day today, and the sun was a welcome sight! It's been a while since I've seen their GE brutes, and it was even better that they had 6004 leading today. As for the MLWs, the potential of them being used again certainly isn't out of the question! I know most of them are stored serviceable, and one of the MLWs (not in this video) was actually used last year to move storage cars. I don't know if I'll ever be able to get back to Scranton, PA to see the Delaware-Lackawanna's six-axle MLWs in operation, so it would be amazing to get an opportunity to see these ones run!
Thanks for bringing us along as you filmed the "2-10-2s of dieseldom." UP used to have a fleet of AC6000CWs some time ago, and I've forgotten the sheer size of these locomotives.
Nice catch! Cool seeing 427 out in its newfound Corporate colored glory. Also nice seeing 6004 and 6000 running together. Those are my favorites of the AC60 line up
Thanks a lot! They picked a good day to move 427 out of the shops, that paint job in the sun looked amazing! I'll be back down there tomorrow for the Falconer turn, hopefully they'll have 427 leading that one 🤞 6004 is a favorite of mine as well, along with 6003 and 6006. I love the LED lights on 6004.
@@mattygunn693 I enjoy the 6004’s LED lights as well! I also enjoy it because a number of years back, in its CSX days, it was caught getting a traction motor replacement while it was out on a run… just something about it that I thought was cool and sorta stood out…
Thanks a lot! Yeah I agree, I love seeing these big GEs running the hills and valleys of the southern New York! Granted, it sucks the WNYP stored their MLWs for these.
Great use of the drone bud. Got back there and showed us all what has been hiding back there. Good to see #427 in fresh paint. LA&L management hasn't really painted anything for awhile. The "Big Hammers" as we called them on my part of the system. Ran those AC6000CW's throughout all of their transformations. When they were new and slippery as hell with a 1000 hp per axle. Modified Traction Control settled that problem. Then through the turbo fires and their neat ability to turn connecting rods into pretzels with the GE/ Deutz prime movers. Then they turned down the horsepower to 4600 hp until the warrantee was out and then cranked them back up to 6000 hp. Then the "rebuilt" version with the 16 cylinder Gevo prime mover. And then again turned them back down from 6000 hp to 4600 hp because they were not getting the fuel savings that GE had said they would get by putting in the Gevo prime mover in. They were fun to operate. Best combo was a AC44CW/AC60CW. You could run "balls to the walls" with a train with that power for a train. Nice to see some old friends getting another chance in moving tonnage. Great video as usual. As always be safe out there.
Not exactly. While they've been taken out of rotation, they have been stored serviceable and can be reactivated at any time. One of the MLWs (not in the video) was actually used last year to move some storage cars.
Thank you for the trip down memory Lane. I left for Navy boot camp out of the Pennsy Depot in Olean in 1965.
Great place, Matt. All those beautiful six-axle Centuries...

Looks like the 427 wearing some fresh paint. Very nice video. Thanks for sharing. Jim
Yessir, she was recently repainted in the corporate colors! The new scheme looked great in the sun. Thanks for watching!
@@mattygunn693 Anytime, I enjoy your variety and videos.

Now that's something you don't see very often. That's pretty cool!
Cool to see big power like this on a smaller railroad. Your videos are great man keep it up!!

Subbed a couple weeks back, binge watched a bunch tonight. Great videos!!! My type of content!

With the arrival of those big GE's, is this the end of 6 axel Alco's on the WNYP ?

Does the 6004 have new ditch lights?
Yep, the ditchlights and headlight are LED now.
