Every qualification in SA are structured in this way: Core Modules(compulsory) , Fundamental Modules (compulsory) and Elective (Specialisation/Major) Modules.
Greetings! Elective modules are actually your non-core modules, the modules you take because they are of interest to you but are not going to be your major. With respect to the last sentence, I need to make a qualification. If you are not doing a structured degree for example BSc, Psychology, where your major is predetermined, an elective course can turn into a major provided you have done it for a minimum of two years and decide to major in it in your final year. I did philosophy, political science, French anthropology and English for two years and on my third year decide to major in philosophy and political science because I did a Bachelor of Social Science, general, undergraduate degree. This means at the moment I decided on a major English technically became an elective courses/module. In summary electives are basically filler courses that can become majors in some degrees.
Most definitely you are correct in that aspect of the qualification you have done. Various universities have varied qualification structures in place. However, the basic principle according to the South African Qualification Authority, every qualification is structured in that fashioned.
In terms of studying, I relate to both of you😂. I need to colour code, because it also attracts me to my books 😂😭. I also need to explain to someone and have them ask questions so that I know I really understand. The rewriting part, I have not ventured into it that much, because I am also kind of a lazy hard worker 😂😂, but reciting what I know, is really the biggest thing for me. This video waa sooo worth watching. Love you both❤
It literally depends on what you are studying. For example, when we talking about the law faculty...when you do your BA law or BCom law, you have to complete that degree first and if you want to advance to an LLB, you can be credited off you BA/Bcom qualification and do LLB for 2 years instead of 4 years. Overrall you will study 5 years and have 2 qualifications instead of 7 years. This is at UJ.
I loved the video I always wondered how the major and minor thing worked, thanks👏🏾. I still have it the high school way😢, my course is annual so I write exams around October of a whole year's worth of work. I have like 10/11 modules annually and write 4/5 modules exams the rest will be continous assessment. Currently doing 5th year/ MHSc.
