Out of all of the scenes in this video, I think the line “DON’T LEAVE ME HERE YOU BASTARDS” hits the hardest. The idea of someone taken over by deep root disease, or maybe even consumed by the ‘bear’ that stalks the camp, crying out not in fear but in *fury* at having been abandoned is both terrifying and disturbing.

Interesting detail: the song playing during the film section at around 3 minuted into the video is “Dark was the Night, Cold was the Ground” by Blind Willie Johnson. The song is notable for having been put on the Voyager probe’s Golden Record, which was made with the intention of explaining human culture, history, and emotions to intelligent aliens that may have found the probe.
3:36 That transformation was so chilling, especially at 3:46 when it shows the brain still intact and even highlights what I'm pretty sure is the amygdala, the part of the brain responsible for the fight or flight response. What an effective way of showing utter panic and helplessness...
I think it's the Thalamus. It's known as a relay station of all incoming motor (movement) and sensory information - hearing, taste, sight and touch (but not smell) - from your body to your brain.
Amygdala and Thalamus aren't visible from the front of the brain, you'd need a cranial or transversal section to see them. That in front would be the prefrontal cortex which is the center for personality and higher cognitive functions. What I'm guessing is they mean that even though they were transformed, their old self is still there and experiencing the whole thing. Which would be the worst possible outcome.

honestly I didn't expect to see the bear skull scene. When I saw the skull, I actually googled a bear's skull and it was a perfect match...I paused the video btw. So when I resumed the video and it zooms out to reveal the Wretch's skull, I was awed by what I just seen. We just got a size comparison of how big Wretch really is and it's terrifying

The very thought that the REGNAD iterations were actually the cries for help from the people assimilated and fused with the mutated bear is terrifying. Iteration 4 was Mary, 381 was likely Glen Arthur cause of the resemblance to his letters in Wretched Hands and 671 was likely the last camp admin from Lethal Omen. That or Glen and theirs is the other way around. AND THEN GLEN'S FACE IN THE WINDOW FROM THE BEAR, clearly still alive likely pleading for help, good lord.
This seems to confirm moonlight acres was a harvesting spot for the Iris. I’m just amazed how long ago it was, and how willingly they did it. I also love the beginning of it describing deep roots. At first it seemed like a prick that hurts over time, but now it seems worse in that the body accepts it. Which is just horrifying.
It reminds me a lot of the shadow over Innsmouth, with loads of shady dealings with creatures from beyond our world I love it. I just have a feeling it's too late for us in this timeline xD
I dont think they are referring to deep root in general. It seeks thatbtheyvare referring to the infected bear, the fact that it's an aberrant form of it. Mutated to a point where classifying it as deep root would be wrong. Instead of consuming the body to transform the host, it instead changes and grows it. Changing it into that creature that lurks in the woods.

Being a biologist, the thought of invasive alien species terrifies me, and this hits really hard. "Not only unlike what is typical for a disease, but completely counter to it." Oof.
2:46 Excellent use of "Dark was the Night, Cold was the Ground." It was one of the songs NASA chose to put on the Voyager I Gold Disc. For those that dont know, NASA sent a Gold-plated, copper disc into space in the late 1960's, with the hope that Intelligent life would come across it. On that disc were 116 Photos of everything to X-Rays, People, Animals, Communicating what different body parts do, race, gender, what our planet looked like at Pangea, what our planet looks like, and what the planet would look like in 10 million years. (The hardest hitting photo, in my opinion, is just a picture of Earth labeled "Home") There were also 26 songs on the Golden Disc, this one of course, is one of them. Because there is little to erode the disc in space, it is likely to outlive humans, and most of our artifacts. It's currently on a journey to the next nearest Star to our Sun, 3 Light Years Away. It takes 17,000 years for Voyager I to reach 1 Light Year. And it is likely that by the time Intelligent life DOES intercept Voyager I, we will have either evolved, destroyed ourselves, or perhaps gone on to greater things. But if the first two are true, then the Golden Disc will be the only proof we ever existed in the first place. Enjoy your existential dread.

This series is getting more and more scarier than before. I like how this series went from innocent looking home video made by aliens to catch their prey to videos documentary that focused on the diseases on how they’re infecting and what their behavior looks like. I can only describe the ending as a reverse jumpscare. Nothing comes directly at the viewer but it slinks off leaving you to wonder "Where the fuck did it go?"
Like the primary thing scarier than seeing a spider is NO LONGER seeing the spider. You're left to sit with the feeling of fear, knowing the object of that fear is still there, now unseen, and it somehow feels worse than if you could confront it.
“I would not speculate on the states of the minds within” is really chilling, for me. Really just punts you in the face with the idea that those poor bastards are still alive and awake in there, in whatever form they may be.

Sounds like they got their audience with just a little bit of dream shenanigans and angel impersonation, which means those drawings may be the best look we've gotten at them so far, assuming that's what they actually looked like and not just how Glenn saw them.
@I am me • 25y ago that movie nearly put me off of analog horror entirely because of how bad and nothing it was. I got into Gemini and vita carnis in spite of it lol. I agree it'll bring visibility to the format but I think it's a poor example of what can be accomplished with it

As a whole genre it’s pretty bad but the few channels like this that have that similar vibe have been really cool. We’ll just have to wait and see if it will have been worth all the waiting and pays off in any way.

The thing we see at the end is actually part of something called the Wretch, and it's one of the three "main" Iris monsters we know of, with the others being Woodcrawlers and Gardeners. The Wretch used to be a bear, but through some "deal" (implied to be allowing the other forms of Iris aliens to harvest humans at Moonlight Acres) being broken, this bear mutated and absorbed a large amount of staff members and park goers. The Woodcrawlers have never been shown in full, though from what we have seen they appear to be spiderlike in appearance. From what we've seen they're the source of the fake people, invading homes and turning the inhabitants into facsimiles of themselves composed of Roots. Remy has also confirmed that "Skinwalkers" are the same thing as Woodcrawlers, just under a different name. The Gardeners are the only monsters we've seen in full and based on their name and what we've seen of them, they seem to be the driving force behind terraforming Earth, tending to the "Gardens" that grow the Roots and Woodcrawlers.

So it seems like while those afflicted with deep root disease, or absorbed or something, their bodies wither away while the mind remains intact. Most everything else in the video we already knew, just all finally tied together. The tree seen in the video game is the deep root disease. The "angels" the men that were mentioned way back when, probably the white doll things. The camp was founded after the deal with the angels was sealed, presumably to offer sacrifice to the tree / Iris. Few years later that came to be too much and they offered up a bear, creating that thing we saw in the Christmas video. That skull at the start is probably what it looks like now. Only question I have is what does the whole dream / unconscious stuff tie into all this? Glenn Arthur says it's a door, and one of the symptoms of deep root disease is the lack of dreaming, plus whatever happened in the Crusader mission.
Barry (the one that got quarantined in shifting tendons) transformed after his dream with the "angels". Otherwise he didn't come into contact with DRD before that point as far as we know.

The "tree" at [3:05] is the same shape as Regnad's antenna in "MONTHLY PROGRESS REPORT" (or, rather, the antenna is the same shape as the "tree"). Not coincidentally both resemble a deep root growth.
My thought is Regnad is actually using the original offering tree to communicate with the Garden, as it seems very identical albeit with some antenna stuff attached to it.

I can safely say that the camera footage in Worlds Weirdest Animals where the cameraman is looking through the window at the woodcrawlers is the scariest piece of horror media I have ever seen in my LIFE. Absolutely incredible work, I love this video. How did you get the footage of the creature at the end? Is it a 3D model or a puppet? Or something else entirely? Whatever it is it looks AMAZING- just the right amount of detail for you to wonder if it's a face or not and then it starts MOVING dear GOD- this is the stuff of nightmares. I also loved the pencil sketches of the "angels", it was so fucking scary seeing those drawings and leaving your brain to fill in the blanks of what they could have actually looked like. It had the same effect as the trope where a child draws something horrific they saw, but multiplied by 1000 because that's an ADULT who saw those things and STILL couldn't comprehend or convey them correctly through the paper. I'm so excited to see what else you've got!!

So, the well-dressed men first appeared in 1935. The deal was made 6 years later, in 1941. What took Glenn so long? Did he refuse at first and was harassed for years? Was he just busy with the camp? At least it's clear who the skinwalkers actually were (it was obvious before, but at least it's now confirmed). Edit: So I was watching a playthrough of the Lethal Omen, and there were some notes in one of the endings. It's too long to describe, in short: someone worries about something eating the camp, talks about "the men", and about having a spot on their neck. I think I have a little theory about it. If we think that the notes were written by Glenn, then we can conclude, that when he first heard of the deal, he refused it, because the men just want to eat the camp, roughly saying. Then they start harassing him in his dreams or making him to hear voices, and then giving him DRD. So, after the DRD takes to the point Glenn's face started "going away", the men come again and Glenn finally agrees. Basically, they mentally torture him and eventually threat his life until he agrees. Kind of like that, I think it all ties up ok. I still don't know why it took them so long, though. What do you guys think?
No. We don't know what the deal gave Moonlight in exchange, but what Moonlight gave to the Tree/the Iris, were human sacrifices. Glen Arthur regrets the deal because it weighed on his conscience, and eventually he comes up with the bear idea; instead of offering them a human sacrifice or sacrifices, they found a bear, shoot it, and offer it as a sacrifice instead. For whatever reason, it creates the abomination that has been hunting and stalking Moonlight for a long time, and likely is what consumed and absorbed Mary at the Christmas Party.
i don't think the second note is from glenn. i think it's actully from barry johnson. if you look at the 1985 christmas party video, barry was the party coordinator. my guess is that he was infected by the wretch when it knocked on the door and barry answered it. in "SHIFTING TENDONS" we can see a diagram of a human(presumebly barry) with DRD. in fig.2 we see that the spot is at the neck region. in the note, the person who wrote is says "the spot on my neck has grown."
@@magustobias8827 I believe it’s been theorized that beings of the Iris as a whole prefer humans as their choice species for assimilation. This seems to be evidenced in some of the videos like Home Invasion Help where it appears that humans are targets of Woodcrawlers, so it may figure that the same is applicable for the other entities like the tree and the Iris itself. My guess is that because of this preference or even requirement, they either became displeased and purposefully reanimated the bear to kill the campers or perhaps DRD doesn’t function as reliably with certain species or even non-humans in general, at least not in a way beneficial for the Iris’s purpose, possibly creating more volatile entities, (which the bear does seem to be)!and maybe that’s the reason only humans are desired.
At 3:59: 'Relic of the faithless day'. I believe that's referring to the bear. It is the relic of the day Glenn 'lost faith' in the deal he had struck, and its old bones continue to grow to this day.

I love the little detail of the song at 2:49. It’s the song sent out to space aboard Voyager one, a spacecraft meant to tell possible life forms who humans are and where we live. Thus suggesting that’s how the iris found Earth 😳
Don't the first few incidents at Moonlight Acres take place in the 1930s or so? Voyager wasn't sent out until 1977, so timeline wise it wouldn't match up.
The song at 2:46 is Blind Willie Johnson's "Dark Was The Night". This song was one of the songs printed onto The Golden Record that was onboard the Voyager spacecraft, sent out to find (or be found) by alien life. All right after Glenn A. Arthur mentions "heavenly visitors...."

I believe it's just a size speculation, as the other one doesn't have teeth (Which are bones, and the infection mutates the bones). It could also be that it wasn't just one infected bear, but several. That is, the mutated skull may even be larger.
We know at least one person survived (or at least made it further than most) the initial backlash from the Iris with the bear, that being Jack Dean. Maybe he ran to the bunker and that's why he survived?
I believed the deal had something to do with the computer company, something about more computer power or technology, but with this, I think there are more things involved
The Deal I think was making People visit Moonlight Acres for fed the Woods as a sacrifice for woodcrawlers but later when the broke the deal in 1946 the staff of Moonlight Acres was taken as vessels in the moment when they answer the door
Remy is the GOAT. Ever since I saw the "stay tuned" in tiny text on your Plushie video, I've been on edge waiting for a video. This was well worth the wait. Wretched Hands, Shifting Tendons and now Old Bones, all of which are so different from how the series started, with totally different titles and thumbnails, looking to me like a "season 2" is underway.
"Wretched hands tap my window, a strangers fangs scrape the walls. Jack, do you see me? I have become something else. I am still in here, don't leave me you bastards." I'm sure most people picked this up, but these iterations have gotten severely out of hand, throwing the work "bastard" to the general audience. The "deal" was most like the camp allowing these creatures to harvest the camp at night, but now 5 years later it's taken away. Meanwhile, Jack's wife comes back to haunt him after the events of the party I assume, or, maybe even prior to the events of Christmas Eve.
The Christmas Eve incident happened YEARS after the counselors in 1946 decided to sacrifice a bear, that indicates Wretch has been around the camp for a very long time without being seen. Not only that, it's kind of sad to hear Mary speak through that footage, I can gather that she's pissed off that they "abandoned" her to be fed to the Wretch

It’s nice to know I’m not the only one who was introduced to analogue horror as a genre by clicking a Gemini home entertainment video late at night. This series has honestly led me into so many niche parts of the internet and added a new aspect to my personality which I freaking love, keep up the great work man. (Also human pattern recognition got me seeing a face in the window even after that infected woman exited the frame and it’s freaking me out, good stuff intentional or not)
This is my #1 analog horror. The #2 is local58, which does a good job too, but doesn't hit the same way as Gemini does with how different each video gets. And Gemeni doesn't earrape you like Vita Carnis does sometimes, which is awful in my book. Keep it up! 👍
The two brain areas highlighted in 3:45 may be the Broca’s area and Wernicke’s area. The Broca area aids in making speech and the Wernicke area aids in processing speech. Maybe the “iterations” aren’t from the Iris itself, but from the minds of the people trapped within the roots here on earth?

@@Archival077 Like we're watching old timey silent 1940s movie footage but then all the story telling and context is done in a 1980s era tech typography and graphics, like the person telling the story is in the 1980s and the story itself and evidence is in 1940s but none of the footage in the 1940s has the actual content thats being told from the 80s so it doesnt make sense. should have been a diary excerpt in period correct style then just told through the silent video rather than resting on the crutch of 80s graphics to tell the story.
My concept of the Iris has changed a lot through subsequent viewings of GHE. Once you get past the inherent body horror of what's going on, I don't necessarily think the Iris is 'evil', or at least it doesn't consider itself as such. It may view what it's doing benign, or even helpful. A few points I've started to ponder. 1. The bear incident was caused by people disobeying what the Iris wanted, they weren't supposed to give it anything but humans. When they gave it a bear something unexpected happened that clearly wasn't the plan. In the rest of the series we don't see any other animals infected by DRD, so they are not the Iris' targets, maybe what happened with the bear is the reason for that. 2. DRD doesn't seem to kill people. It seems to transform them into something else (Woodcrawlers or some intermediary form that creates Woodcrawlers?). Does the Iris see humans and think 'oh what ugly little fragile bodies, let me help them into a better form'. 3.. Woodcrawlers seem to have human or near human type psychologies. The fact that they are being shown PSAs about best practices in home invasion tells me that they have free will and are prone to the mistakes that go along with agency. These aren't monsters operating on predatory instinct or extensions of some Godlike Iris hive mind, they have agency. They need direction, education, and reinforcement to accomplish their goals, much like humans. 4. The Iris is constantly trying to communicate with humans about it's plans and intentions. It's making pacts, putting out videos, contacting multiple companies and generally trying to get the word out. Those aren't the actions of a predator. This is especially interesting because the Iris seems to have almost Godlike powers, it doesn't 'need' any help from humans, it doesn't need collaborators and doesn't need to trick anyone into doing it's work. It could simply show up and do whatever it wanted to Earth easily. So why doesn't it? It's intent must be more complicated than that. All of these things make me suspect that the Iris isn't a malicious entity, just one so utterly alien to ours and so much more powerful that anything it does, regardless of intent, is likely to end up being destructive. I'd love to get the perspective of a Woodcrawler, we know they understand and comprehend human language because of the PSAs made for them. Maybe they'd tell us that being a Woodcrawler is totally awesome and they are enthusiastic about turning everybody into one because of how great it is? Maybe just because we find something ugly doesn't necessarily mean it's bad.
I am not sure though there were multiple companies that worked with the Iris tend to be shady and malevolent like tricking kids out into the woods to be kidnapped by woodcrawlers or the documentary of our solar system kept implying the Iris "laughing" at our existence. So the Iris somewhat morally ambiguous or a bit like the Brethren moons from Dead Space instead of wiping humans it simply converted mankind into something else or evolutionary them.
With the forest video, at least, I think that it wasn't meant for kids - but that it was meant for Woodcrawlers just like the other training video on home invasion. @@longwlenguyen4214

Around 3:00 the music that plays is from the voyager probe that contains the golden record revealing all the information of humans and our anatomy, how we reproduce, etc. Really interesting to think that maybe the voyager got caught by the iris somehow. Still tho, it doesn't correlate with what we see here where the iris has made landfall in the 30s

Judging by his skull (0:29) I don't think the Bear has its eyes anymore. However, if we consider that Iris is able to communicate(?) with the Bear (and calling it Mary, or at least communicating with the "Mary" part of the Bear), we may remember it saying "Mary **sees** the Gateway die". I think its eyes have mutated, or at least it relies on its other senses now. As for working for Iris, I think it both does and doesn't. It's mostly doing its own thing I guess, since it's not like other woodcrawlers, but Iris is able to communicate (?) with it. I think it's somewhere in-between.
I may be a bit late on the ride, tho I couldn't help but notice that the alias "Remy Abode" used by the owner of the channel and creator of basically every tape on the channel is a possible anagram of "Dream body". Now it may be just me speculating, but considering that the iris has been shown tampering with dreams and jack became the machine, which can read dreams, I have to wonder if the tapes produced are but the product of Jack's memories of his life before he got captured by the creatures from uranus mixed with messages sent by the iris...

I keep coming back to this video, and despite my efforts, I can not find any films that can match the atmosphere and quality of these videos, cosmic horror is fascinating to me, obviously 2001:ASO was really brilliant, but it seems rare that anything has lived up to it, I really like "The Three Body Problem", they are in the middle of making that, let's see if that lives up to the materials potential.
Seeing the sheer size comparison of the bear skull to what it has become (also how do they have a diagram of the larger skull??) is what really makes in unsettling. Seeing it scurry around on the roof during the Christmas Eve party episode and step into frame with a leg as wide as a pine tree really sets in how big the Wretch is now from being just a bear.
Out of all of the scenes in this video, I think the line “DON’T LEAVE ME HERE YOU BASTARDS” hits the hardest. The idea of someone taken over by deep root disease, or maybe even consumed by the ‘bear’ that stalks the camp, crying out not in fear but in *fury* at having been abandoned is both terrifying and disturbing.

I think it's the Thalamus. It's known as a relay station of all incoming motor (movement) and sensory information - hearing, taste, sight and touch (but not smell) - from your body to your brain.
Amygdala and Thalamus aren't visible from the front of the brain, you'd need a cranial or transversal section to see them.
That in front would be the prefrontal cortex which is the center for personality and higher cognitive functions.
What I'm guessing is they mean that even though they were transformed, their old self is still there and experiencing the whole thing. Which would be the worst possible outcome.

This seems to confirm moonlight acres was a harvesting spot for the Iris. I’m just amazed how long ago it was, and how willingly they did it. I also love the beginning of it describing deep roots. At first it seemed like a prick that hurts over time, but now it seems worse in that the body accepts it. Which is just horrifying.
It reminds me a lot of the shadow over Innsmouth, with loads of shady dealings with creatures from beyond our world I love it. I just have a feeling it's too late for us in this timeline xD
I dont think they are referring to deep root in general. It seeks thatbtheyvare referring to the infected bear, the fact that it's an aberrant form of it. Mutated to a point where classifying it as deep root would be wrong. Instead of consuming the body to transform the host, it instead changes and grows it. Changing it into that creature that lurks in the woods.

Excellent use of "Dark was the Night, Cold was the Ground."
It was one of the songs NASA chose to put on the Voyager I Gold Disc.
For those that dont know, NASA sent a Gold-plated, copper disc into space in the late 1960's, with the hope that Intelligent life would come across it.
On that disc were 116 Photos of everything to X-Rays, People, Animals, Communicating what different body parts do, race, gender, what our planet looked like at Pangea, what our planet looks like, and what the planet would look like in 10 million years. (The hardest hitting photo, in my opinion, is just a picture of Earth labeled "Home")
There were also 26 songs on the Golden Disc, this one of course, is one of them.
Because there is little to erode the disc in space, it is likely to outlive humans, and most of our artifacts. It's currently on a journey to the next nearest Star to our Sun, 3 Light Years Away. It takes 17,000 years for Voyager I to reach 1 Light Year. And it is likely that by the time Intelligent life DOES intercept Voyager I, we will have either evolved, destroyed ourselves, or perhaps gone on to greater things. But if the first two are true, then the Golden Disc will be the only proof we ever existed in the first place.

Like the primary thing scarier than seeing a spider is NO LONGER seeing the spider. You're left to sit with the feeling of fear, knowing the object of that fear is still there, now unseen, and it somehow feels worse than if you could confront it.
“I would not speculate on the states of the minds within” is really chilling, for me. Really just punts you in the face with the idea that those poor bastards are still alive and awake in there, in whatever form they may be.
What if someone did some drugs right before being assimilated and the Iris has a single-body experience

Sounds like they got their audience with just a little bit of dream shenanigans and angel impersonation, which means those drawings may be the best look we've gotten at them so far, assuming that's what they actually looked like and not just how Glenn saw them.

The thing we see at the end is actually part of something called the Wretch, and it's one of the three "main" Iris monsters we know of, with the others being Woodcrawlers and Gardeners. The Wretch used to be a bear, but through some "deal" (implied to be allowing the other forms of Iris aliens to harvest humans at Moonlight Acres) being broken, this bear mutated and absorbed a large amount of staff members and park goers. The Woodcrawlers have never been shown in full, though from what we have seen they appear to be spiderlike in appearance. From what we've seen they're the source of the fake people, invading homes and turning the inhabitants into facsimiles of themselves composed of Roots. Remy has also confirmed that "Skinwalkers" are the same thing as Woodcrawlers, just under a different name. The Gardeners are the only monsters we've seen in full and based on their name and what we've seen of them, they seem to be the driving force behind terraforming Earth, tending to the "Gardens" that grow the Roots and Woodcrawlers.

So it seems like while those afflicted with deep root disease, or absorbed or something, their bodies wither away while the mind remains intact.
Most everything else in the video we already knew, just all finally tied together. The tree seen in the video game is the deep root disease. The "angels" the men that were mentioned way back when, probably the white doll things. The camp was founded after the deal with the angels was sealed, presumably to offer sacrifice to the tree / Iris. Few years later that came to be too much and they offered up a bear, creating that thing we saw in the Christmas video. That skull at the start is probably what it looks like now.
Only question I have is what does the whole dream / unconscious stuff tie into all this? Glenn Arthur says it's a door, and one of the symptoms of deep root disease is the lack of dreaming, plus whatever happened in the Crusader mission.

Whatever it is it looks AMAZING- just the right amount of detail for you to wonder if it's a face or not and then it starts MOVING dear GOD- this is the stuff of nightmares. I also loved the pencil sketches of the "angels", it was so fucking scary seeing those drawings and leaving your brain to fill in the blanks of what they could have actually looked like. It had the same effect as the trope where a child draws something horrific they saw, but multiplied by 1000 because that's an ADULT who saw those things and STILL couldn't comprehend or convey them correctly through the paper. Edit: So I was watching a playthrough of the Lethal Omen, and there were some notes in one of the endings. It's too long to describe, in short: someone worries about something eating the camp, talks about "the men", and about having a spot on their neck. I think I have a little theory about it. If we think that the notes were written by Glenn, then we can conclude, that when he first heard of the deal, he refused it, because the men just want to eat the camp, roughly saying. Then they start harassing him in his dreams or making him to hear voices, and then giving him DRD. So, after the DRD takes to the point Glenn's face started "going away", the men come again and Glenn finally agrees. Basically, they mentally torture him and eventually threat his life until he agrees. Kind of like that, I think it all ties up ok. I still don't know why it took them so long, though. What do you guys think?
No. We don't know what the deal gave Moonlight in exchange, but what Moonlight gave to the Tree/the Iris, were human sacrifices. Glen Arthur regrets the deal because it weighed on his conscience, and eventually he comes up with the bear idea; instead of offering them a human sacrifice or sacrifices, they found a bear, shoot it, and offer it as a sacrifice instead. For whatever reason, it creates the abomination that has been hunting and stalking Moonlight for a long time, and likely is what consumed and absorbed Mary at the Christmas Party.
i don't think the second note is from glenn. i think it's actully from barry johnson. if you look at the 1985 christmas party video, barry was the party coordinator. my guess is that he was infected by the wretch when it knocked on the door and barry answered it. in "SHIFTING TENDONS" we can see a diagram of a human(presumebly barry) with DRD. in fig.2 we see that the spot is at the neck region. in the note, the person who wrote is says "the spot on my neck has grown."
@@magustobias8827 I believe it’s been theorized that beings of the Iris as a whole prefer humans as their choice species for assimilation. This seems to be evidenced in some of the videos like Home Invasion Help where it appears that humans are targets of Woodcrawlers, so it may figure that the same is applicable for the other entities like the tree and the Iris itself.
My guess is that because of this preference or even requirement, they either became displeased and purposefully reanimated the bear to kill the campers or perhaps DRD doesn’t function as reliably with certain species or even non-humans in general, at least not in a way beneficial for the Iris’s purpose, possibly creating more volatile entities, (which the bear does seem to be)!and maybe that’s the reason only humans are desired.

Don't the first few incidents at Moonlight Acres take place in the 1930s or so? Voyager wasn't sent out until 1977, so timeline wise it wouldn't match up.

Remy is the GOAT. Ever since I saw the "stay tuned" in tiny text on your Plushie video, I've been on edge waiting for a video. This was well worth the wait. Wretched Hands, Shifting Tendons and now Old Bones, all of which are so different from how the series started, with totally different titles and thumbnails, looking to me like a "season 2" is underway.

I'm sure most people picked this up, but these iterations have gotten severely out of hand, throwing the work "bastard" to the general audience. The "deal" was most like the camp allowing these creatures to harvest the camp at night, but now 5 years later it's taken away. Meanwhile, Jack's wife comes back to haunt him after the events of the party I assume, or, maybe even prior to the events of Christmas Eve.
The Christmas Eve incident happened YEARS after the counselors in 1946 decided to sacrifice a bear, that indicates Wretch has been around the camp for a very long time without being seen. Not only that, it's kind of sad to hear Mary speak through that footage, I can gather that she's pissed off that they "abandoned" her to be fed to the Wretch

It’s nice to know I’m not the only one who was introduced to analogue horror as a genre by clicking a Gemini home entertainment video late at night. This series has honestly led me into so many niche parts of the internet and added a new aspect to my personality which I freaking love, keep up the great work man. (Also human pattern recognition got me seeing a face in the window even after that infected woman exited the frame and it’s freaking me out, good stuff intentional or not)
This is my #1 analog horror. The #2 is local58, which does a good job too, but doesn't hit the same way as Gemini does with how different each video gets. And Gemeni doesn't earrape you like Vita Carnis does sometimes, which is awful in my book.

@@Archival077 Like we're watching old timey silent 1940s movie footage but then all the story telling and context is done in a 1980s era tech typography and graphics, like the person telling the story is in the 1980s and the story itself and evidence is in 1940s but none of the footage in the 1940s has the actual content thats being told from the 80s so it doesnt make sense.
should have been a diary excerpt in period correct style then just told through the silent video rather than resting on the crutch of 80s graphics to tell the story.
My concept of the Iris has changed a lot through subsequent viewings of GHE. Once you get past the inherent body horror of what's going on, I don't necessarily think the Iris is 'evil', or at least it doesn't consider itself as such. It may view what it's doing benign, or even helpful. A few points I've started to ponder.
1. The bear incident was caused by people disobeying what the Iris wanted, they weren't supposed to give it anything but humans. When they gave it a bear something unexpected happened that clearly wasn't the plan. In the rest of the series we don't see any other animals infected by DRD, so they are not the Iris' targets, maybe what happened with the bear is the reason for that.
2. DRD doesn't seem to kill people. It seems to transform them into something else (Woodcrawlers or some intermediary form that creates Woodcrawlers?). Does the Iris see humans and think 'oh what ugly little fragile bodies, let me help them into a better form'.
3.. Woodcrawlers seem to have human or near human type psychologies. The fact that they are being shown PSAs about best practices in home invasion tells me that they have free will and are prone to the mistakes that go along with agency. These aren't monsters operating on predatory instinct or extensions of some Godlike Iris hive mind, they have agency. They need direction, education, and reinforcement to accomplish their goals, much like humans.
4. The Iris is constantly trying to communicate with humans about it's plans and intentions. It's making pacts, putting out videos, contacting multiple companies and generally trying to get the word out. Those aren't the actions of a predator. This is especially interesting because the Iris seems to have almost Godlike powers, it doesn't 'need' any help from humans, it doesn't need collaborators and doesn't need to trick anyone into doing it's work. It could simply show up and do whatever it wanted to Earth easily. So why doesn't it? It's intent must be more complicated than that.
All of these things make me suspect that the Iris isn't a malicious entity, just one so utterly alien to ours and so much more powerful that anything it does, regardless of intent, is likely to end up being destructive. I'd love to get the perspective of a Woodcrawler, we know they understand and comprehend human language because of the PSAs made for them. Maybe they'd tell us that being a Woodcrawler is totally awesome and they are enthusiastic about turning everybody into one because of how great it is? Maybe just because we find something ugly doesn't necessarily mean it's bad.
Interesting theory
I am not sure though there were multiple companies that worked with the Iris tend to be shady and malevolent like tricking kids out into the woods to be kidnapped by woodcrawlers or the documentary of our solar system kept implying the Iris "laughing" at our existence. So the Iris somewhat morally ambiguous or a bit like the Brethren moons from Dead Space instead of wiping humans it simply converted mankind into something else or evolutionary them.
With the forest video, at least, I think that it wasn't meant for kids - but that it was meant for Woodcrawlers just like the other training video on home invasion. @@longwlenguyen4214

Around 3:00 the music that plays is from the voyager probe that contains the golden record revealing all the information of humans and our anatomy, how we reproduce, etc. Really interesting to think that maybe the voyager got caught by the iris somehow. Judging by his skull (0:29) I don't think the Bear has its eyes anymore. However, if we consider that Iris is able to communicate(?) with the Bear (and calling it Mary, or at least communicating with the "Mary" part of the Bear), we may remember it saying "Mary **sees** the Gateway die". I think its eyes have mutated, or at least it relies on its other senses now. As for working for Iris, I think it both does and doesn't. It's mostly doing its own thing I guess, since it's not like other woodcrawlers, but Iris is able to communicate (?) with it. I think it's somewhere in-between.

I keep coming back to this video, and despite my efforts, I can not find any films that can match the atmosphere and quality of these videos, cosmic horror is fascinating to me, obviously 2001:ASO was really brilliant, but it seems rare that anything has lived up to it, I really like "The Three Body Problem", they are in the middle of making that, let's see if that lives up to the materials potential.
Seeing the sheer size comparison of the bear skull to what it has become (also how do they have a diagram of the larger skull??) is what really makes in unsettling. Seeing it scurry around on the roof during the Christmas Eve party episode and step into frame with a leg as wide as a pine tree really sets in how big the Wretch is now from being just a bear.
