Hi guys!! This is somewhat unplanned. I AM SO EXCITED (why am I so excited???) anyway, hope you like the idea and join in. Here's the link to the Twitter account for this: twitter.com/MagicalReadthn If you decide to take the OWLs with me, don't forget to tag your journey with #OWLsReadathon2018 and @ the twitter account so I can retweet it
"I'm probably thinking this is more fun than you guys will think that this is" Are you kidding me???? This is the best idea EVER! Girl, you have some brilliant ideas. Honestly, my mind is blown.
I. CANNOT. WAIT! This sounds so amazing! Aaah! I’ll try to do a Hermione and complete all 12 OWLS, but knowing me I’ll probably be too slow and end up doing a Ron instead...
I'm really excited too! I can't wait to join in and see how far I can get!! Hoping for Hermione-level especially since I'm from Gryffindor as well but will just have to wait and see! So far, this is my list- 📖Library Science📖 🌈Charms- Grey Sister by Mark Lawrence or A Song of Blood and Stone by L. Penelope 🌪️DADA- The Burning Page by Genevieve Cogman or Labyrinth Lost by Zoraida Cordova ♾Ancient Runes- Strange the Dreamer, History of Magic- Secrets of the Lighthouse by Santa Montefiore or Named of the Dragon by Susanna Kearsley 🙋Muggle Studies- The Professor and the Madman by Simon Winchester (optional course) 🐲 Magizoologist🐲 🐉Care of Magical Creatures- Illustrated Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them & Apex by Mercedes Lackey -Herbology- The Bear and the Nightingale and/or Moon Chosen by P.C. Is that a new hair color I see?? I'm liking the colors! "So, I contacted Hogwarts..." OMG You are so adorable. I love this idea so much. I need to go through the subjects and see how many I can find books that correlate to each that will interest me (does that make sense? No, it doesn't. Editing! Still doesn't make sense....). You know I want to go Hermione level on this one. And hopefully I don't end up as a Troll!!
Yes this sounds awesome! I saw your NEWTs announcement and you said you can practice OWLs and then do NEWTs on your own time and that’s exactly what I will be doing! This sounds awesome! Definitely a readathon that I will be joining each year!
OK I just found these readathons today - on the day the NEWTS readathon starts (1 Aug 2018), but I guess I have to do the OWLS first and then do the NEWTS later. Most of my books are Non fiction. I dont read a lot of Novels . So my books for the OWLS are as follows - Arithmancy - Read a book with a number on the cover or in the title - Seven Seconds by Holly Millea (JFK assassination) Astronomy - Read a Sci-Fi novel - Spock's World (Re-Read) by Diane Duane Care of Magical Creatures - Read a book that features a magical creature on the cover - Dragons of Eden (Re-Read) by Carl Sagan Divination - Read a book featuring prophecies - The Prophetess (Re-read) by Barbara Wood Herbology - Read a book with a nature related word in the title - Silent Spring by Rachel Carson History of Magic - Read a historical fiction - Deeds of the Disturber by Elizabeth Peters Muggle Studies - Read a muggle non-fiction book - Which ever takes my fancy - I have tons of NF books Potions - Read a book about/with alchemy - The Alchemists Code by Martin Rua (Book 1 of a trilogy) I guess I will be doing all the "Easy" Subjects!! LOL The hard subjects are - Ancient Runes, Charms, DADA and Transfiguration!! Edited to add Astronomy - I found a Sci-fi novel to read!! Ciao for now!!
Why didn't I see this when it first started 😭😭. I need a time turner! This is so cool. Love the challenges and the HP theme ❤. Hope you do this next year as well!
I'm so excited! I have slightly more time than usual with midterms just now finishing up.... I've been wanting to do a readathon for the past few months but grad school's been so busy.
Girl, this is genius! I saw your Newts video first but I think I will try the owls in July for the heck of it and to tag along for the newts readathon! Now I’m excited.
I love it. The tests were my favorite part of the 5th book and it's my favorite book of the series. If you had someone do badges for each test and we could collect them and they would be a fun proof for the NEWT read a thon. And reading sprints could be called study sessions. Sorry got a little excited haha. It would also be cool if people could sign up for it with their house and have a house competition to see who gets the most badges.
This sounds so cool! I don’t know if I’ll really be able to do this in April because of school and exams and stuff..... but I will definitely try to do this if I can! Maybe I’ll even try and host my own little reading challenge once my classes are all done. This is so fun!
This sounds like so much fun!! I'm in my last semester of school, so it might be a bit more challenging than normal for me. However, I'm definitely going to join!
Now that I've watched the whole thing I'm actually REALLY thankful for that challenge and I'm really looking forward to it! I suffered from depression a few years ago and since then I just kinda stopped reading, even though I'm much better now. I only managed to finish one book last year and I still didn't pick up any since. So maybe with this challenge I'll finally get back my motivation for reading and become a bookworm again instead of the horder I currently am (I still buy tons of books, I just never manage to pull myself up and read them for some reason) So yeah, amazing idea G, I'm putting a lot of hope into this! This is hopefully gonna be a blast ♥
I really hope this gives you motivation to rediscover the love for reading, don't pressure yourself - sometimes we just need a lill break and that's okay! I'm very glad to hear that you are feeling better now!! It's my absolute pleasure, really hope you will enjoy it!
I relate to what you wrote so much!! depression stopped me reading but I still buy a lot of books and just have them on standby with the hope that I will get the motivation and concentration to get back into reading. I miss it so much. nothing like a Harry Potter related challenge to motivate me!
Oh wow, great to see I'm not alone, even tho I'm really sorry for you, too. I'd say let's just get through this together and beat our reading inactivity by passing our OWLs! Even a Poor would actually be a success already, at least in my case, so I'm sure we can do it
You're not alone. I have been there and (not) done reading for years at a time. My advice is any tiny books, short stories, poetry, plays graphic novels etc. Or tiny audiobooks. They all count! I wish you luck. Is there anything you want to buddy read to find external motivation with?
This is such a cute idea! I don’t have a booktube but I have a book blog where I’ll be keeping track of my OWLs and of course I will join the twitter community! Love this!
Aw G, this is such a great idea and I love the video! I'm all hooked now and totally share your excitement! No idea how many OWLs I can sit through (considering that I am only on my second book for this year - although this is still a very big improvement for me, considering that I did not really read that much for the last few years) but I'm excited and I want to try it! At the moment, I am already preparing and thinking about my choices... and I think I'll go with a good mix of books and manga to cover as many OWLs as possible. A friend will join the readathon too, which I'm really excited about. We read Vicious together and are currently reading A darker Shade of Magic, so we'll go for A Gathering of Shadows for Charms OWL in April together as a continuation. So one OWL choice is already set. Let's see what I'm going to do for the rest. Good thing I have a week off at the beginning of April, I'll try to use that and read a lot. Can't wait to start! :D Sky
This sounds so cool. I don't think I've ever participated in a readathon before, so of course I'll start out with a Harry Potter inspired one. I do have one final (+ my bachelor) during April, but I'll try and see if I can pass my OWLs with at least an Acceptable. Challenge accepted!
Hahah I was thinking of you while making this being a bit sad but I am glad you're ignoring the HP part and still joining in!!!! You're the best & I love you.
This challenge is so thoughtful and engaging!!! I will try 7 challenges overlapping with some Booktube SFF Awards readaalongs! It's going to be awesome ♥ Thanks for sharing your amazing idea! ♥
I just saw this but I love the idea! Might see if I can find a couple other Potter loving friends/family and do it another month. Obviously we won’t be posting anything but I love the idea anyway. I really think you should do this yearly 🧙🏼♀️
I already have a fully planned TBR and everything so LET'S DO THIS!!! Also, just as feedback, to be able to organize myself I had to transcribe all of the info myself from the PDF, and although I LOVED the letter and it's gorgeous and I will print it to hang in my bedroom, it would have been very practical if you'd included the challenges written on google docs too. I'm so glad you're making this, it will be EPIC!!!
Just made my TBR for this but it wont be going up until the end of the week since I just found out about the readathon. I plan to get to 9 OWLs. This is an awesome concept for a readathon.
Merlin's Beard! This is AMAZING. Also, perfect timing for me because I'm going to the Wizarding World of HP on the 28th. I'm so excited for this. And also for the NEWT's. Thank you for being awesome!
my mom and I love this idea can't wait. I picked the OWLs that I'd need to be a Healer or an Auror the classes you need to pass are Charms, DADA, herbology, potions, and transfiguration in case anyone wants to be an Auror ;)
i will participate but won't be able to interact on Twitter as I do not have an account. And I honestly do not think I would figure out how to operate it in time. I mean I still haven't worked out what I am doing wrong in the goodreads group as I tried three to four times to post and it would just disappear. I am very low tech, :). Still this sounds like a lot of fun, and I enjoy a challenge. Thanks for coming up with this G!
What an amazing idea! will definitely be taking my owls! I've just bought my first home so alll my books are in boxes so this'll give me the motivation to unpack my books and put them onto my bookcases!! (y) btw i've joined the twitter family!
I am going to do the readathon as well. I have my TBR ready. But probably won't get a RUclips video up until the day it starts or the day after. I picked out 8 books but will try more if I finish the one's on my list. I also picked Healer as my main core studies. Which consists of Herbology, Potions, Charms. I am not sure if I am forgetting any other for the core studies. Another one I am definitely doing is Divination because I will be doing Percy Jackson and the lighting thief because I chose The sea of monsters for my Herbology one.
Eeeek!! I love this idea, so much fun!!! This will be my very first readathon😁 I’m busy planning which OWL’s I’m going to sit😊 I’m hoping for an Outstanding...that would really be challenging for me...and that’s the idea, so 😁😁😁
I am a bit behind with this readathon but I am going to do it in September and then hopefully I can take my N.E.W.Ts in October! By the way there seem to be a lot of fairly popular youtubers now picking this up to do! I hope you do these again next year!
OH this sounds amazing! I'm not really on booktube, but I completely want to do this! Even if it's going to be hard to pick books before it starts. Blast me being late to the game!
This is fricking genius!! I love you and I’ll definitely be joining in!! I have so many ideas for books and I might really push myself. It is definitely a little bit extra and over the top but so am I when it come to Harry Potter!! Love it!! Xxxx
Hi guys!! This is somewhat unplanned. I AM SO EXCITED (why am I so excited???) anyway, hope you like the idea and join in. Here's the link to the Twitter account for this: twitter.com/MagicalReadthn

I have a book called "harry potter a journey through a history of magic" can i use this book

"I'm probably thinking this is more fun than you guys will think that this is" Are you kidding me???? This is the best idea EVER! Girl, you have some brilliant ideas. Honestly, my mind is blown.
Ahhh thank you !!!
I. CANNOT. WAIT! This sounds so amazing! Aaah! I’ll try to do a Hermione and complete all 12 OWLS, but knowing me I’ll probably be too slow and end up doing a Ron instead...
Awwwww it's so cute that you are so apoligetic and shy about it. And look at where this readathon is at now!!! 💓💓💓

Still doesn't make sense....). You know I want to go Hermione level on this one. And hopefully I don't end up as a Troll!!
The School Office team at Hogwarts were quite nice! haha
Yay I'm so so glad you'll be joining!!! Can't wait to hear what you chose to go with.
Yes this sounds awesome! I saw your NEWTs announcement and you said you can practice OWLs and then do NEWTs on your own time and that’s exactly what I will be doing! This sounds awesome! Definitely a readathon that I will be joining each year!
Okay so two things-- first off, seeing you this excited is probably the cutest thing ever, and also this idea is genius and I can't wait! :)
This is a great idea! Love how much detail you put into it. It'll give me a break from stressing about my Muggle exams.
OK I just found these readathons today - on the day the NEWTS readathon starts (1 Aug 2018), but I guess I have to do the OWLS first and then do the NEWTS later.
Most of my books are Non fiction. I dont read a lot of Novels . So my books for the OWLS are as follows -

I'm so excited! I have slightly more time than usual with midterms just now finishing up.... I've been wanting to do a readathon for the past few months but grad school's been so busy.
Ummmm.....This sounds AMAZING!!!!!! I didn't know that I needed this in my life. Thanks for being awesome and creating it!!
So glad you like it!! My pleasure, really!
My best friend recommended we do this together, so today at school we found our books and we're ready!
Girl, this is genius! I saw your Newts video first but I think I will try the owls in July for the heck of it and to tag along for the newts readathon! Now I’m excited.
This is such a great challenge, 12 books in a month is entirely doable, definitely looking to complete all challenges
This is actually great! so excited!
Me too, girl, so so so excited! x
This is great!! I came to it late but I’m going to do the challenges in May so I’ll be ready for my NEWTS when they happen. Thanks for creating this!!
April PERFECT month for a readathon for me! Looking forward to participating. Thanks for organising!
"Maybe I should do it with other people if they want to join?" congrats, your idea is blowing up and spreading far and wide!
I love it. The tests were my favorite part of the 5th book and it's my favorite book of the series. This readathon sounds great! I was looking forward to a month of completely impulsive choice (no TBR), but I might join in after all.
I'm really excited for this! I will definitely be completing my O.W.Ls!
This sounds like so much fun!! I'm in my last semester of school, so it might be a bit more challenging than normal for me. However, I'm definitely going to join!

I just found your channel and this video, but I'm doing it by myself now because this sounds so interesting.

Time to re-activate my twitter acount! Love the idea of this readathon and I will try to pass my OWLs!
I am so excited for this challenge!!
I already have a fully planned TBR and everything so LET'S DO THIS!!! Yes! I look forward to sitting my OWLS.
Just made my TBR for this but it wont be going up until the end of the week since I just found out about the readathon. I plan to get to 9 OWLs. This is an awesome concept for a readathon.

Oh this is exciting! I took March off from readathons and I am totally ready to do one for April! I think this will be fun. Also, I LOVE the hair!
i will participate but won't be able to interact on Twitter as I do not have an account.
I love this idea! I'm totally doing this.
This is an AMAZING idea! So excited! I’ve never done a readathon before and I’m so excited this my first!

So excited to start this today!

Yes! Stay strong and focused, I believe in you!
Ooo! Can't believe i missed that until now! What an amazing idea, I'll definately be joining!
I love this and want to find a way to participate. April is such a busy month for me, but perhaps I can get a "pass" by doing two OWLs. ☺️
Omg I LOVE this!!! This is just a fun, unique idea! I want to do all the subjects haha
Yay seems so fun! I'm picking books for every owl! Definitely going for at least 5, probably can do all if I don't give up. :D
I am a bit behind with this readathon but I am going to do it in September and then hopefully I can take my N.E.W.Ts in October! By the way there seem to be a lot of fairly popular youtubers now picking this up to do! I hope you do these again next year!
This is epic! I feel your excitement. Potterheads!💘
Omg I’m a day late! Why am I just hearing of this?! Starting today!!! I will definitely participate in the N.E.W.Ts
