I thought my distaste for Jacob was about the marketing he has or out of jealousy, but... no. as of this writing, i'm listening to "In My Room" and I can say that his music is nor groundbreaking, neither innovative. he doesn't sound like the genius people paint him as. he's just a musician who's making his own approach. just that. to be honest, the only thing that is repelling me from liking him is that his music is the type you can hear on the radio and just bob your head to it. it sounds too mainstream, too relatable, too... marketable.
LOL! That was an album of covers mostly done with microphone during the pandemic but even in that context the harmonies are far more complex and dazzling which is maybe why he won Grammys for it. But sure, a moron like you can judge a guy who has 5 Grammys before he's 30. LOL!
Its nice to have a place like this, where weirdos can stay to hate on people. Lets keep them here untill they find something better to spend their time on..
Glad it's not just me. You forgot his most egregious sin: All that technical ability, all that skill and head knowledge of music, and yet his songs don't have an ounce of soul - they never give you the goosepimples...for someone so many musicians purportedly have a hard-on for, I can't see the appeal. I guess he's the musical equivalent to an impressive athlete. I mean, way to go or something?
Well, to be fair i understand perhaps 5% of how this guy feels. I thought that piano improv was amazing, but when the guy in the background said "that's the best piano I ever heard" I did cringe a little bit.
"The guy in the background" is Jacob Collier, and he is referring to the sound of the piano plug-in. It is not an acoustic instrument but a digital one. He is complimenting the designers.
His music is really soulless and has no emotion. He only knows about music theory and techniques, but I think he doesn't experience such emotion in his music. Every time I see his video, he always tries to reharmonize everything by pressing random notes and harmonizing them. I think he will just be a good musician coach, not a singer.
He reminds me of those pompous "jazz musicians" who will take a song like "Jingle Bells" and play completely different chords, totally different progression entirely but will still sing the lyrics over it, like "Aren't I impressive? I took a song you knew and played it wrong!" lol
LOL! Random! Such ignorance! He's not going to be a coach to anybody, ya maroooon. He's doing an international, often with full orchestras backing him now. The soulless comment is especially ignorant. His latest release which is as heartfelt as many other of his songs: ruclips.net/video/IQvzX0Z3HE4/видео.html
It's like when a person with really good looks has poor acting skills and insists on appearing in movies giving awkward performances because he has never had to learn certain emotions, so he can't convey them. Jacob Collier has no emotional or veritable artistic merit. Just a bunch of technical, nerdy noise.
He's privileged and maybe a bit naive but so what? Not any more than any other suburban kid. Genius happens there too and if think f#m7 even begins to capture his harmonic complexities then you know as little about chords as you do music in general.

I don't understand why the hate on him is so insane... Sometimes disguised as aggressive passivity. I mean, if you don't like his sound, whats the problem? Opinions are different, right? But people try SO hard to hate him that it seems like there's something behind the "erm soulless" thing.
Definitely a few chord and key changes in there that felt like this was beating a dead horse but maybe it's just dabbling on piano not to be taken so seriously. I'm not really a fan of his work otherwise, though. It feels unnecessarily stuffed to a degree that's unpalatable even for seasoned musicians. I'm much more the "snarky puppy" type than this. There's something unmusical about his music to me.
"It doesn't take a professional chef to know that steamed horseshit doesn't taste great". Jacob might be a virtuoso at many instruments (even if he can't write a good song to save his life), but we can still critique him, even if we're not virtuosos ourselves.

Me too😂
The universe has spared me JC until about 30mins ago on Scott's Bass Lessons, but it didn't have him playing. So I looked him up and he did a live version of Close to You be The Carpenters. Oh God he's atrocious. He absolutely sucks the life out of classic tunes. He's no fucking bassist neither - he doesn't understand the instrument, or any, for that matter.
Videos like this are why I'm on the internet
Jacobs music doesn’t sound good
"good" in music is subjective, i like it, and so do millions of others, and we all think it's astounding what jacob is capable of. your opinion doesn't define music.
@@39bigmarks I disagree, I think my opinion is the end all be all
@@ant6354 i hope you're joking
@@39bigmarks I am definitely not
@@ant6354 so what if i said the music you listen to sounds bad? does that change your opinion on how you like that music? no.
The real Artist is Joey Alexander
This!
He doesnt make music, he should throw a Masterclass on how to ruin music.
you sound like a baby right now. your opinion regarding anything doesn't define what it actually is. music, especially in this case, is subjective. i like his music, and so do millions of others. grow up.
the universe needs balance
you look jacob with the most jealousy ive seen
Like Jacob or not, this video is pure cringe. Literally the worst thing I have ever seen.
you didn’t get it?
You have shitty taste in music, my friend.
seethe
is what it is man, always going to be people with insane jealousy for someone who has been lucky enough and good enough to be able to make a lot of money of off something they love to do.
dude is literally just playing some piano, the projected insecurities are very obvious when you talk about a subjective thing as if it is fact. Something that you think is "boring" shouldn't automatically not be allowed any kind of success you are clearly just not into jazz fusion and thats all there is to it.
Jacobs personality and stage presence are a different story and I could see why you might be apprehensive or irritated by it, however he is probably more than twice the musician you and I are, therefore there is a lot of stuff you can learn from listening to him. If you can get over the way he talks I guess.
*Iconic review*
I make better music than this overrated Jacob who just shows off his sub par musishian skills and gets free Grammy
I don't get why he's more famous that whatever any normal musician does

Jacob Collier fans all sound like 8 year old girls. "You don't like Jacob 'cause you're just jealous.
Lol, try to watch all the Jacob Collier hate videos….maybe because all these people sound like they are?- in the sense that they don’t actually have a point besides saying that Jacob and whoever likes him is just brainwashed into liking him and Jacob just wants to flex….like wwhat???
such a childish interpretation of differing opinion. I can feel the insecurity radiate from this message
never heard of that, but what i can say is that you don't like jacob because of your taste in music. i personally do like him and his music a lot, but that doesn't mean that i'm "brainwashed". i just like how it sounds. your opinion doesn't define music, and i wish people would stop objectifying it...
This kind of pettiness and lack of analysis sounds like little else. IT's also often a matter of pretty obvious ignorance andmusical illiteracy.
I think the only thing that let me sit through this video was that it was all going to be a joke lol
Mimicking creativity and being tapped into creativity are two different things.
best video on youtube, his fans of soulless midwits are arguably even more annoying
Jacob comes off as such arrogant person
What do you think of his new album?
Shimmering sparkly harmonious void.@@bittripboy
Omg this reaction is hilarious!!! Lol love it
Made my day dude ! So funny :)
Jacob Collier is the cockroach of music
His music is really soulless and has no emotion. He only knows about music theory and techniques, but I think he doesn't experience such emotion in his music. Every time I see his video, he always tries to reharmonize everything by pressing random notes and harmonizing them. I think he will just be a good musician coach, not a singer.
That’s how I always felt about it, but everyone has their taste and style I guess. I can’t deny that he is very skilled though.
His latest release which is as heartfelt as many other of his songs:

I wake up with this thought every day
I dont know you but i agree jacob is like priviledged child that doesnt know shit how hard life is and hes like i can do that in f#m7
It's like when a person with really good looks has poor acting skills and insists on appearing in movies giving awkward performances because he has never had to learn certain emotions, so he can't convey them.
Jacob Collier has no emotional or veritable artistic merit. Just a bunch of technical, nerdy noise.
@@MazBringsby which is sorta the point?
@@play3r.wav. The point is that it *is* nerdy technical noise? Okay, good we agree.
@@AdamBorseti nerdy? yes. noise? no.
He's privileged and maybe a bit naive but so what? Not any more than any other suburban kid. Genius happens there too and if think f#m7 even begins to capture his harmonic complexities then you know as little about chords as you do music in general.
Jacob Collier is truly talented but his own music is like a RUclips polyglot flexing different languages.
Ironically that was meaningless gobbledygook.
Idk what i just watched but I feel enlightened
does anyone know if this video was made unironically? lmao

His music SUCKS
He has raw talent, sure, but I have yet to see anyone as unbearably obnoxious as he is. I’m sure he’s a nice guy but man I cannot stand watching anything on RUclips that involves him in any way. George Collier had good videos though.
He can obviously play well but his music sucks and hes so annoying
This is an fully grown adult throwing a jealous tantrum. lol
I don't understand why the hate on him is so insane... Sometimes disguised as aggressive passivity.
I mean, if you don't like his sound, whats the problem? Opinions are different, right?
But people try SO hard to hate him that it seems like there's something behind the "erm soulless" thing.
We all kinda feel that too... let's be honest xD
...no?
I was waiting for the part where he explained why....but it never really happened lol
The music speaks for itself
@@eddiedevriesz hating his music is one thing. This guy is another. Just a talent less douchebag complaining

You make my day 🤣🤗❤️
In fact, I feel same way. Jakob is The bigest music crap wrapped in The best paper, his music is soul-less😌
listen to his "moon river" arrangement. that might change your opinion.
I do get an icky feeling when I see/hear Jacob Collier. But this guy's criticism is low IQ.
Guys, it might be just a guess but I think he doesn't like Jacob Collier
His music is like tiktok shorts

If you think you are so much better than him, than go on. play us a song. play this exact one. give us an amazing performance.
"It doesn't take a professional chef to know that steamed horseshit doesn't taste great". Jacob might be a virtuoso at many instruments (even if he can't write a good song to save his life), but we can still critique him, even if we're not virtuosos ourselves.
This is so good 😂😂 fucking love both of you!
Just because you know the theory doesnt make you great! Why oh why does he sing omg......... Not a fan.
His piano playing is decent, but his music is trash. Sounds like laying an arm across the piano
Your comment is also shit.
his music isnt trash because unfortunately. music is basically maths, and its textbook good music. its just not your thing and thats absolutely fine
@@WovenSpade I've been musically inclined for more than 20 years. Also, why do people try to make the word math plural? It isn't "maths", it's mathematics. Music isn't math, it's resonance of wave patterns with time signatures. I know harmony, and i know dissonance. I also know the meaning of musical masturbation. Just because somebody sinks 20 hours into a DAW layering vocals and lining them up with a video doesn't make them musically talented. Dedication and skill are not the same thing.
