- Is Dillon Gabriel Gone?
The bad news keeps coming for Sooner Nation. After dropping a heart breaker against Texas Tech - Dillon Gabriel was non-committal about returning to OU next season, saying “Too fresh. I’ll figure that out pretty soon.” He clearly isn’t NFL ready - so signs point to another transfer. Some fans might be celebrating this - but I think having Gabriel back would be an integral part of transitioning to 5-star recruit Jackson Arnold in the future. Спорт
This aged well 😂😂😂
Well yeah, as A Sooner fan they are putting him on a heisman level, I feel like we need to show off how good we are in the harder games like Texas, Etc

Watching this after Dillion just cooked Texas
Can't imagine him leaving. He's not ready for the NFL, although he could enter the draft. So, I think his comment had to do with making a decision to come back to OU or put his name in the draft.
He'll be back next year and Evers and Arnold can develop behind him.
Evers is gone.
Evers already left to Wisconsin.
I hope he comes back. And has a great year and proves the hates wrong.
@@sandygreen8553 💯💯💯💯. You nailed it great take.
Yes DG is leaving. He won't be back. LEBBY and VENABLES said so, and they said if he did come back there will be competition. It won't just be handed to him next yr. It's Arnold's time
He's coming back quit worrying there not getting rid of an important part of the offense. I loved Dillion Gabriel it takes time to get good timing as a transfer Quarterback. People who trash this talented young man does not understand what its like being a quarterback especially in division 1. I can talk 3 step, 5 step drops all day timing is everything by next season he's goin to be alot better believe me.
He has made a point of not announcing anything but I am guessing he does stay. Would be huge for Arnold to get a year of work behind him. Plus I agree, although Gabriel did stumble at points during the year he has great potential to improve in 2023
Once you graduate from college you have no business playing QB for any college football program. You move on and turn pro.
The reports says that he’s not NFL QB ready.
That’s baloney!
Gabriel doesn’t want to get drafted after 4 rounds in the NFL draft this is all about getting drafted in the first round and getting paid the big bucks.💴
I think he’s making a huge mistake. Rumor has it that the LV Raiders we’re scouting him, and Michael Penix Jr.
He doesn't want to have done to him what happened to rattler with Williams. He knows Arnold is great and if he struggles at all it could mean he's replaces because you can't ignore Arnold's talent
Man that would be brutal. Hope he stays and plays well so Arnold can have a year to learn the system without getting thrown into the fire
Arnold can start as a true freshman
He could, but it’s very rare for a freshman to step in to a starting role and immediately play to the level we would expect/need. I’d like to see Gabriel start next year with Arnold redshirted - get him a few games of experience and have him prepared for the move to the SEC
@@LimitlessSports Arnold is that good imo, but I think DG stays. It would be dumb if he left considering he only has one year left and has a pretty much guaranteed spot for next year. Also, he will have had more time with the playbook and chemistry with his teammates. Just makes too much sense for him to stay.
@@hotcarl3854 I’m hoping so. Gabriel wasn’t terrible just a bit inconsistent on some simple throws. I’ve heard Arnold is the truth though so excited to see what he can bring
@@hotcarl3854 He's good, but it's rare that a true freshman can come in and start from day one. He needs a year in the system to allow him to learn, develop and have the game slow down for him.
If we have to depend on a true freshman to start at QB, it could be a long year. I expect DG to start and Evers/Arnold to battle for the #2 spot.
Arnold looks like a stud!!
future heisman winner from the Oregon Ducks
Imagine if OU didn't have Gabriel last year. Wheeew
I’d rather not 😂 that would have been awful
Yeah... imagine if we had spencer rattler last season who set a completion record at SC.
The dumbest thing OU fans did was go at this man. He’s a baller. Maybe not the “best” in the nation (who knows next year) but is an elite talent. Hope he’s back for my Sooners!
He certainly has some things to clean up but he has shown glimpses throughout the season that he has the ability to be great. Hoping he sticks it out and stays next year as well
A baller lmao he's weak in inaccurate
Definitely not elite, sorry. Bradford, White, Jones, Mayfield, Murray, those are elite. Gabriel isn't even on a Nate Hybl level.

Man this comment section really eating their words now…
I dunno man, if Gabriel leaves, who's going to miss the downfield throws?
The call "He's got a man behind the defense" should never end with "broken up"
😂 he definitely missed on some gimmes, but receivers also dropped some dimes. I’d like him to stay if anything just to give him another year in the offense and for the team to finally have some continuity at QB. Plus gives Arnold some time to develop
Man, this comment aged well…😅
No, Nick Evers left which was the writing on the wall that DG will be back and Arnold will be back up, If DG was leaving then Evers wouldnt have transferred to Wisconsin.
The writing was on the wall for Evers after the Texas game imo, but I do think DG is staying.
He needs to stay, we need a decent backup behind Arnold

We told him to go..
Edit: Have fun with the Oregon ducks GABE
I don't think hes leaving but if he does then we got Jackson Arnold who cares
I’d rather not start a true freshman from the jump. Give him a year to learn the offense before throwing him into the fire imo. But I do agree, even though he was initially non-commital there haven’t been any additional signs of him leaving so he probably stays
Well if he decides to leave the sooner, than so be it. Thanks to ncaa allowing money to be apart of education they get a scholarship, school paid for. What is more important
Uh, if he ain't NFL ready by now, he never will be. I know it's old, just saying. If Arnold would stick, and Dillon stayed, awesome. But either way, OU will be okay. I like DG a lot. A great QB.
Please DG come back just so my fellow Sooner fans that are idiots will shut up about Arnold. If Arnold can win the job so be it but he hasn't for a reason. And its not because of Lebby Loyalty to DG. People are so dumb.
I think that Jackson Arnold is ready. I think that Gabriel knows that he can't beat him by next season, so he's leaving. I hope Jackson does great like we think he can.

I mean, hasn't he been in college for like 8 years now?
Jackson Arnold will be on campus after the 1st of the year, OU will be just fine
I’d like him to develop for a year with Gabriel starting. Throwing a freshman into the fire, no matter how talented, is a tough ask imo
Not with the O line looking like that

I don't think Gabriel isn't a bad QB at all we've gotta get in the groove he showed he could play ball during our last game. NFL ready no but I think he could make himself at the least a 3rd round pick if he comes back next year.
I think consistency was his big issue - if he can clean it up like you said he can be a really great QB
A year late but it's happening
Jokes on everybody. He's still rocking and rolling touch downs for ou
Those TDs slowed down in conference play, much like last season. To date he has 15 TDs, 11 of which were against non-con cupcake. Maybe he turns a corner, but it’s hard to imagine it’ll be this weekend against Texas
@bullgravy6906 😂 yeah I bet it was hard if you were a Texass fan.
Our defense is better then last year or the year prior of last year.. Our offense is better then last year but we have a rookie head couch. So last year will suck. This year has already shown we're better then last year and I can't wait to see what next year brings.
Have you not seen his stats before coming to ou? He throws.
@@coryfergusonGabriel’s true strength is not making mistakes and turnovers. He balled out for sure against Texas but still only managed 1 TD through the air with 15 seconds left. He gets the credit he deserves, but not where it should be. It’s often overlooked how important it can be simply to NOT turn the ball over or take a lot of sacks and Gabriel is damn good about that.
@bullgravy6906 wasn't conference losses. We didn't even get ranked last year I'm pretty sure bud. Look at each game this year vs last year.
We're romping and stomping and we're coming for the best of the best this season.
2025 will be a different say tho from me just like when I found out we're switching head coaches 😅 I'll be puckering my asshole then
@@bullgravy6906honestly man. I'm not talking about a player. I'm talking about the team and coaches.
There’s three possibilities- 1.) Jeff Lebby is a terrible OC (play calling has been atrocious) and DG is the victim of bad OC, or 2. DG just isn’t it, or 3.) They both aren’t it.
It’s definitely multifaceted. And that doesn’t even begin to cover the team’s problems on the defensive side of the ball and how that effects the offense and vice versa. I’m hopeful things improve in year 2
What a take BUDDY
