When using the link cable you can game for hours, i've gone over 4 hours and still would be above 60% (I use a link cable plugged into a usb C port). Using VR is pretty quick and simple, most people who race in VR keep the cable plugged into the computer/headset unless you play wirelessly. When you put on the headset it will ask if you want to connect to PC, you click yes, then open your desktop tab on the quest and done. From there it is up to you, and whatever game you will be playing.

well the time i bought vr i was completly noob at this topic it took me about month to understand all settings in different games and testing all things such as(odt settings, nvidia drivers settings, all games settings, openxr, opencomposite, steam vr,) etc etc. but now i can reinstal windows and setup everything in 2-3 hours, all games that im playing (ams2, iracing, asetto corsa, rbr, dirt rally 2) and once its all setup, im just coming back from work start my pc and im ready to drive in 3 minutes. Most important thing is to understand everything and setup all once and forget.

In I racing it doesn't really take me longer than just going with screens, because its so well implemented in the game. First I put the headset on my forehead to "wake it up". I go into iRacing Ui then i pick a race. When the Game starts loading I put on my gloves and pull the VR Headset on my eyes. When I'm in the game, I just press the center VR button and that's it. Every other game, especially if you have to run Steam VR is a pain in the behindhole.

Fantastic. Thank you. I’m using the Oculus 2 with mixed results. Incredible during tests, but with live racing it’s undrivable. My Pc is brand new and high end. Was thinking of getting the Oculus 3 to see if it could be better. VR is just so incredible to drive with, I just to be able to use it in real races and not just testing.

I guess the real issues are:
1-Latency: on the Quest you have 90FPS latency of maybe 30ms and then encoding of 60ms. So you see the consequences of your inputs 1 tenth after they happened, they are also disalligned from the wheel which has less latency. Possibly on a 220FPS triple screen (which is what you get on triple with the hardware that gets you 90FPS on VR, at least on iRacing) you're about at 15ms latency
    2-Eye strain
    3-Weight on your head
4-Need for experimentation to get FPS and less latency so to enhance visual quality which is still not quite enough at 4070 super level, which is a middle size kind of affordable video card
On the other hand though VR is one of those things that can enhance the sense of speed which is the N1 element missing from Sim Racing and one of the many reasons that contribute to incidents, and bad racing...

hello since you made a Q&A video i should ask my own questions aswell!! :D so its been few weeks i got my meta quest 3 and so far i have tried the oculus app on pc, steamvr, steam link / airlink, debug tool, openvr on various games and sims including iracing and f1 23 and my main problem is despite having 3060ti, i5 13400f and 32gbs of ddr4 ram, my pancake lenses show the game very pixelated and blurry! i have tried vay to many settings such as resolution, hz and encountered way too many fps drops that i have come to a point i have to ask you and others i am desperate pls help lmao i wanna be able to enjoy the races in clear vision atleast..!

Hey sorry to hear youre having issues with VR. I honestly have had issues in the past with software too, but I think maybe this could be a hardware issue? Do you have the correct type of cable, is it plugged in to the fastest port, stuff like that. I know that's not the most helpful advice but I remember doing a lot of trouble shooting with my set up. I recently even had too many USB connections and had connectivity issues.

For me VR has been a waste of time and money for sim racing, I got 4080super with Ryzen 9 7900X with a quest 3. I stared with a cable and the graphics weren't that great but everything ran pretty smooth, so I bought a Wi-Fi 6E setup and I use virtual desktop now. it looks better, but i keep getting frame drops and messing with setting I haven't been able to get it to go away yet and its getting on last nerve lol. I'm about to go to the cable and buy a big curved monitor and just enjoy driving.

Sorry to hear the setup and settings have been a pain. I don't drive in VR all the time but have to agree sometimes it works well and other times it makes you want to get rid of it all. I personally have not gotten wireless to work at all with my set up.

Nice video however it needs more information re: USB PC cable time testing. Which USB port did you use: type A or type C? What cable did you use: type C official link cable or some generic 1-2 Gbps USB 3.0? Was it a powered or unpowered type? Simply saying "I used a USB cable" does not meant much...

Thank you, I did not mean to state anything specific and this is not intended as a guide. That was not the goal of the video. However, more of just a quick test of the battery and a few other things worth covering.

@@ronmraz Yes, I get it. Sadly your video hasn't addressed my concerns re: tethered PCVR play time. This is the reason I've not upgraded to Quest 3 as the internet is full of complaints from people not getting even 3 hours of tethered PCVR on Quest 3. Wi-Fi in not an option for me.

Man, if this used base stations and wasn't tied to the Oculus ecosystem, I would be in. But I cannot get past the issues that come with cameras nor the fact that i can't natively play steam games and HAVE to use the steamVR program which is basically an emulator.
Probably just gonna throw the 1000 at Bigscreen Beyond in summer and say F it.

    • @ronmraz
      @ronmraz  10 месяцев назад

Bigscreen beyond is probably the holy Grail, I know I would like one.
The biggest issues you'll have is that you spend waaay more time in VR than before 😂

I've used the original which came with the quest, I have used one from Amazon. I have the one from Amazon currently unplugged but ready to plug into a USB A to female C cable so I can use my motherboards fastest port. Hope that helps :)

@@ronmraz That would be nice. I'm upgrading My PC right now for the sole purpose of running the Quest 3. I'm going to get the rtx4070 Super, which seems to have basically the same performance as the 3090 and was wondering if I can expect to get 90fps on average. Thanks!

my 3080TI gets pretty much a solid 90 with some settings tweaks on Automobilista 2.
Thats with a Samsung odyssey plus at like. 200% supersampling or something though so im not sure if its entirely comparable. Id imagine a 4070 super should have plenty of grunt for most things you'll throw at it.@@mementomori4972
