I get loads of questions over on Insta about #greycoverage so it made sense to put them all together in a video on here.

I was taught to apply color ( without Developer ) to the gray areas First and give it time to penetrate especially if the gray is resistant. Then, apply color mixture with developer over those areas along with the rest of the hair to be colored.

Thanks for the video and your personal tips. Regarding tinting resistant grey hair. Years ago in the 80s when I was training, hairdressers where I worked would sometimes apply neat 20 vol peroxide to the clients dry hair, leave for several minutes then dry under a hood dryer, then apply the tint. This really did work on several clients with resistant grey. I love that tash. Thanks again.

I remember my mom transitioning at the end and she went platinum and let her hair go silver with silver highlights until it was in a silver bob, it took about 2 years

Hi Robert...thanks for watching! Ooo, the 20vol guideline is for permanent colour - to ensure modern low ammonia formulas penetrate properly. I would always recommend using the designated developer for a demi...
@@theworldofcraig ah ok, I did think that, I’d never use 10 vol with a permanent to cover grey. Glad you cleared that up for me!

Hi Craig!! I just came across your page. Great information! I'm in the "Blending the gray hair" category! What shades eq tons (numbers) would you suggest to blend gray hair on dark hair? Thank you!
Hi there! Thanks for watching and for the kind feedback, glad it was helpful. The series in SEGQ that is specifically for grey blending is NB - drop down a shade darker than your natural if you want more blending…the result will be darker though.

Ahhh thank u🙏🏻🙈😂….first grey transition client..the permanent grow out is too harsh now ( I was using 88/0+8/1)she has a solid white patch on sides , level 6 with 25% on top and no grey in back…❤️ur vids so much…..I am now highlighting but still not sure what to put on for root base..6nb + 6 na for warmth ? Then 10 gi + 10 p on mid and ends in shades eq?.I have no clue just thinking out loud based off what we have lifted her to…I did put a high lift tint on roots thinking it may look ok with her blonde highlights🙈 it’s so warm 😂 thank u again for taking the time to make these vids, ur awesome mr ✌️🥂

Modern color formulas are lower in pH with special agents to enhance penetration and more ‘refined’ coloring agents and the amount of dye is measured so the color stops getting darker so you don’t get Light Brown when you used Medium Blonde. Although the color may continue to penetrate the hair with longer exposure time, once all the dyes have oxidized, coloring stops and when all of the Developer is exhausted, lightening stops.
That’s right - no hair colour has a built in “timer” eh…the reaction slows but the deposit continues. Fascinating stuff!
I hear it many times, that for 50 percent of gray hair, use 50 percent of desired shade with 50 percent of neutral from same level.

Hi Craig. I use redken shades eq mocha java and midnight ash to achieve a softer demi-permanent coverage of my grays. I sit under the dryer for 30 minutes or so. I'd like to use a clear glaze as well. How long do I have to wait after coloring my hair to use the clear glaze to soften and condition my new color? I'm not a hairdresser, but had to improvise during Covid lockdown. Thanks for your help and your videos.
Hi Clara, thanks for watching. Great formula! You can apply the Clear as soon as you would like - SEQG is acidic, it very gentle.

@@claramedeiros4431 No - it doesn’t lay down a coating on the hair.
Note to self: When re-watching, start at 2:10 &/or 9:10.
I cover my grey with an intense 10 minute color (light brown) for men....then I use a blue pigment shampoo to get rid of the ALWAYS red hue left over.....I HATE that. What do you think of this BLUE pigment shampoo? Seems to work....(John Frieda)
Cool...those products are generally great for guys. If the shampoo works for you, then it’s GOOD!
