    the best war movie ever made! Private Ryan got Oscars only because US army has a positive picture there. But Thin line is so realistic and raw.

    • @donaldkoelper5807

      Most critics back in 1998 placed "Saving Private Ryan" and "The Thin Red Line" on the same lofty plateau. Certainly, they are two of the very best films about war ever made. "Saving Private Ryan" hit you in the gut from the opening scene of the bloody landing on Omaha Beach, while "The Thin Red Line" allowed its horrors to unfold on its audience slowly and deliberately, with American troops landing on Guadalcanal unopposed.

    • @MacabreMagazine
      @MacabreMagazine 5 лет назад

      So it's the best war movie ever because it portrays the US Army negatively? By the way, it was the marines, not the army.

    The piece starting at 27:40, which accompanies Pv. Witt's death in the movie, never ceases to amaze me. It's about as perfect of a composition that could exist to symbolize Witt's earthly departure but more importantly, his unceasing faith in an afterlife.

    He's everything I wanted to be as a man when I was growing up. Such a self reflective man, so gentle in a war so violent.. he refused to be baited into scenarios that would otherwise compromise other men's philosophical or theological resolve. A man although in fiction, lives within us all as an architype of what looks like a platonean embarkation inward that pushes our hero from seeming private (slave) to phliosopher, and more than a King . His altrusim clearly puts him above a King thus turning and making him a God....

    This is music for the soul. It reaches some elusive spot deep inside, a place hard to describe, but basic, core, what makes us human. I listen to this five, six times a week, sometimes two, three times a day. It nourishes, sustains, heals, replenishes. Mille gracie!!!

    L'un des meilleurs film que j'ai vu, et le meilleur film de guerre. Car au delà de la violence, il nous amène dans une réflection très profonde. J'ai énormément ete marqué, par ce film qui est plus qu'un film, justement a mes yeux.... il nous interroge, nous pénétre, la bande son, les images d'une beauté surréaliste et presque psychédélique, vous transporte au delà des mots au delà des actes. .. Je rêve a espèrer la version complète avec tous les acteurs manquants...Un jour, même si elle dure 5 heures, et surtout si elle dure 5 heures.... HANS ZIMMER y est bien sur pour bcp, ce compositeur de génie et le réalisateur se sont trouves, a l'unisson d'une oeuvre majeur..... certains morceaux passe d'une peinture a une autre, on est au calme, on passe dans l'inquiétude pour finir au desespoir, des frissons me parcoure tout le corps a chaque fois, que je réécoute cette musique, merci pour le partage....

    A few months ago, we spent a week in Vanuatu and attended the Anglican church of the Resurrection in Port Vila. The massed choirs sang many of these tunes, it was one of the most emotional and memorable Eucharists that I have ever attended.
    I understand that much of the choral music in the film is sung by the choir of the Anglican Cathedral in Honiara, Solomon Islands when a very dear ( late) friend was their first Archbishop

    Beautiful tribute with a soundtrack for the ages. This is very special war movie that transcends all the others. Thank you for posting this. Wasn't aware of this movie until I saw a clip of Jim Caviezel saying how he got this part and if he hadn't, he would have given up on an acting career. How he got it in his words was very spiritual. Witt IS Jim Caviezel!

      I've listened to it so many times too Ben! I really couldn't get over the movie or the score. I had to make this and it is by far my favorite! It is just so beautiful to listen to and I wanted the pictures to go along with the music as much as I could and hope that you enjoyed that as much as I have making it. Sharing it with other people inspired by The Thin Red Line. I want to say that I am very happy to hear all the comments I've received, they are absolutely astonishing to me, really thankful to hear them. Oh and I ran into a post before I started making it and someone released the "Ultimate Motion Picture Score" (it was over five and a half hours long)... the way I got the "unused" tracks was by finding the pieces I wanted to use which I thought would fit Witt's theme and my main idea was to add all the versions together in one setting at a time (Example: Witt's death themes all together). But I did intend to do more releases for the unused tracks, putting each theme together in one setting like I did with a few in this tribute. I ran into one problem which I haven't before when I made this one. I'd get the one I wanted which was about half ways into the entire audio file. When I actually would cut it there would be no audio and it just wouldn't load. I was going to do one of all the versions for the track "Stone in my heart", "Journey to the line" etc. But I'll be sure to work on it more, I need to identify where each music piece is in the file yet. Meanwhile I have been doing a lot of projects for other videos and stockpiling them pretty much. But I'll have to really get back into this one for sure.
      --- Here is a photo link of the actual full album track list (which I haven't seen the the full unreleased album since because where I got it, I noticed the file had gotten deleted quite awhile ago)

The way they handle Witt's character in the movie is great filmmaking, and of course the music helps us feel all that on an emotional level. PS. In the blu ray collector edition of the movie, Zimmer explains that the score was composed prior to the shooting of the movie; Zimmer had just elements of the script to compose. I think it is clearly felt here through this montage which is very good, although I would have preferred all the pictures selected kept with the movie aspect ratio as you use it at the beginning. If I'm not mistaken the unused elements of the music score are in the bonuses of the blu ray. Terrence Malick used to have the score played while the actors were acting he says in the commentary of the shooting in the blu ray.
    It's by far the best war movie I've seen to this day. It has depth and doesn't just present things as a simple adventure war movie. Jim Caviezel is absolutely astounding in the character of private Witt.
