pH > 7.0 is basic, whereas < 7.0 would be your acidic range. Small slip of the tongue, but I would probably make a similar mistake if I just unboxed a fly river turtle lol.
I tried forever to find one back in the late 2000's when I still had tanks. Definitely in the top 3 species for me. There was a breeder who was able to breed Vietnamese quang tung river Turtles here in FL and I got one. The coolest thing about that species besides the striking black and orange colors is the fact that when he bred them, the species was extinct in the wild. A year long survey/ search only produced one male in the entire habitat...😢 Also Mata Mata Turtles are truly out of this world
I have a story that's kind of unrelated to the video besides turtles. I live in Detroit, been here for 50 yrs. When I was a kid every so often we would get heavy rain and our street would flood. When the water receded to my amazement there was a painted turtle just walking next to the curb. It was just a small little dude about 4in or so. Then about two years later. The same exact thing happened. Out sewer catch basins were only about 4 ft deep with leaves and debris in it and we lived near 8mile witch was miles from the river. Has anyone else had this happen to them in an urban area? Thanks
Forrest, if you could add a UVB producing light, like one of the new LED ones, I think it'll put you on a good track. Also I believe you've said before that you live in California. I'm thinking you could probably keep that species outside, once it gets bigger of course, in a preformed pond, cattle trough, etc for a good portion of the year considering you guys got plenty of warmth and sunshine. Depending on what part of California of course.
How long does the journey from the pett store to your home take? Just asking for the little guy’s comfort ( maybe stress ) . Just curious. Enjoy your cute little buddy
Forest, just heard something you said, so wanted to be sure, you said the tank was a ph of 8 which is acidic and good for them? A PH of 8 is considered slightly alkaline, 5-6 would be the acidic environment. Just a verbal mistake?
@@sdqsdq6274 Well...maybe. You can keep most of those types of fish in a higher PH environment so that isnt the evidence I need here. Angelfish can survive in a wide variety of environments as well as tetras. Also, the driftwood doesnt bring the PH down as much as people may think. Usually its a buffering soil that will bring that PH down, but it looks like an inert sandy bottom in this tank...You are right though, that test kits sometimes do show BS readings. Especially those test strip kits...I only use the test tube API kits myself.
Okay somehow this guy needs to do a tv show any tv Executives watch his videos please make it happen very rarely is there a show that parents and children can watch TOGETHER and be learning something at the same time a magic combination I never subscribed just watched his stuff I was part of the problem just changed that
Also are you sure pig nosed turtles are herbivores?, because some herbivores to do eat meat like deer eating small birds or hippos eating meat from a buffalo carcass. And some plant eating turtles are also opportunistic omnivores.
Did you give him a name? I want to get a turtle and call him after one of the TMNT. I just know they take a lot of care and live for a long time so I would want to have a really good home for him.
You do know what's better than a fly river turtle? Two fly river turtles😉
They need alot of space, they get huge.
You know what’s better than that? 4 of em
In separate tanks
If I am correct they don’t do well with other fly river turtles
@willstruck2975 Yeah I hear they're aggressive towards eachother.
Solitary animals so no
If you had a livestream of him 24/7 I would watch it all the time 😂 he is too adorable
Fly River Turtles are freaking adorable. Beautiful community tank too btw.
Thank you! They are amazing
@@ForrestGalante have you named him?
I’ve NEVER seen one that small. Congrats, on of my favorites too. So adorable 🥰
I love seeing you Forrest talk about turtles. You are a great animal loving person. Please keep up the great work.
i remember swimming with a sea turtle when i went to Hawaii was so much fun. turtles in general are super cool.
most groovy dude... what a cute fly river turtle.
pH > 7.0 is basic, whereas < 7.0 would be your acidic range. Small slip of the tongue, but I would probably make a similar mistake if I just unboxed a fly river turtle lol.
Beautiful frt but a pH of 8 is alkaline not acidic. That's 6.9
Awh his cute little face. That is the cutest turtle k have ever seen
Hiw do you not smile at how excited this man still gets about animals!
You can see he is truly excited about his new turtle! Can not fake that smile! Congrats Forrest!

This is legitimately the only unboxing I like
Yes you must have one of each turtle and tortoise in your collection. Once you get one you must have them all. God Wills It!!!!
Bro not going to lie i never see a turtle looking so cute like that before, these creatures are adorable ❤❤❤
That is a cute ass turtle
Saw one of those in the wild legit 2 days ago. They're extremely common in the lake systems here in QLD
What's his name??? He is simply adorable..to see him play with the fish is incredible!❤
PH 8 is not acidic Forrest..
But i know What you mean🥰
And all that excitement made you forget, turtle made your day!!!

I'm so jealous. I've wanted one for months since seeing one. I can't wait to see more updates if you do any!
Very cute i haven't see one that small on any other channel. Awesome :)
my dream turtle as well!
So awesome to see how happy you are with just a little pig nose turtle 😂

Does he have to have a basking area or lamp or does he strictly stay in water?
I’ve always craved a Indian star tortoises
What an awesome little turtle! I hope you can get another one in the future! 😄👍
Congratulations Proud Poppa!
Congratulations Forrest!
Hey everbody, your friendly chemistry nerd here! 😄
2:18 a pH of 8 is alkaline
That’s dope! But any water over 7.0 on a ph level is alkaline anything under that is acidic!
Ya those are sweet my friend is working on a deal for one atm
Congratulations! 🐢🐢🐢🐢🐢🐢
he’s so cute 🥹🥹

Same here
It's nose was stuck to the wall how cruel of that company to ship like that.
Just wondering how long would it take for a fly river turtle to outgrow that tank
Very beautiful!
I love fly river turtles. They are the only turtle I'd want to have.
Fun fact: We have SOME Fly River turtle (or Pig-Nosed Turtle) fossils dating back millions of years.

So excited for you!
fly river turtles are so cool. definitely a bucket list reptile, he's gonna be so happy with you
Congrats man, so cool !

no way its 8 , the fish inside are already SA fishes , that big driftwood will bring the ph down , and yea test kits sometimes show BS readings

Please get more and breed them for release
Love your videos, keep up the good work mate. 🇦🇺🇦🇺
Do you still have forced injections in Oz?
Just wondering how you got it put of australia, they're super protected here especially as they're only found in the NT
Love you Forrest but 8 is definitely basic lol. Find a Tasmanian tiger pls thnx. 😂
Forrest the thumbnail from this video looked like a nightmare version of you lmao
Okay somehow this guy needs to do a tv show any tv Executives watch his videos please make it happen very rarely is there a show that parents and children can watch TOGETHER and be learning something at the same time a magic combination

2:24 A pH of 8 would be basic/alkaline…
We need more episodes of extinct or alive
How is it fully aquatic? There was no water in the packaging
We need an update
Youll eventually need a much larger tank!
what size tank is he in now?
How big of a tank was that? How long do you expect that to be good for
It's basically a freshwater sea turtle
A ph of 8 is alkaline not acidic, other than that cool video
Hey Forrest you should check out Ohio Fish Rescue if you haven’t yet. They have an amazing set up and a couple fly river turtles that are pretty big.
Isn't pH 8 slightly basic?
Also are you sure pig nosed turtles are herbivores?, because some herbivores to do eat meat like deer eating small birds or hippos eating meat from a buffalo carcass. And some plant eating turtles are also opportunistic omnivores.
Didn't you say that if you ever did the smiley face with wide open mouth that so many youtubers do, just kill me.
If only they stayed that small
That’s awesome. Lovely tank as well forest
What happened to your lungfish, did it died?
That is the cutest little face i could kiss it! Also cool turtle man
Excellent, set up for a really cool turtle.
Congratulations, that turtle and the mata mata are my dream turtles
Hey where can I get on ?
Do longer videos
Did you give him a name? I want to get a turtle and call him after one of the TMNT. I just know they take a lot of care and live for a long time so I would want to have a really good home for him.
