A very humble grave marker. It was good to see where he was laid to rest. I never heard of his passing and was surprised it was back in 2014. He influenced just about every blues player there is. He was royalty among the famous.
He sure was, Earl. His final album 'Step Back', released just after his death, featured him playing with Billy Gibbons, Eric Clapton, Joe Perry, Leslie West and several other big names. Won a Grammy for Best Blues Album in 2015.
I met both JD and his brother Edgar many times.. from Texas, they were from port arthur and I was from houston. .. we had a lot of fun back in our days..
Loved Johnny, saw him live several times. I got him to autograph an out of print album of his that I had one night at the Catalyst in Santa Cruz. He was without a doubt one of the best. I miss him.
Wow, I didn;t realize he had died. I was lucky to see him at The Palace in Wtby back about 1972 or 73......great show and to top it off Edgar walked out too ! I was sitting in one of the opera seats that hung out a bit over the crowd ( like the one Abe Lincoln sat in when he was killed ). Some things we never forget. Thank you, Stan. I guess old Johnny is back out on Highway 61........... I probably still have my ticket stub. Have you ever gone to the Palace ? I saw so many great shows there. I would love to see something on the New Haven Arena as well, I went to many shows there back in the day @1971.
Hi Scarlet, thanks for watching. Johnny and his missus lived in Easton for about 15 years before his death in 2014. I saw Johnny play at the Agora Ballroom in West Hartford back in 1983 or 84. I didn't see any shows at the Palace in Waterbury. I worked part-time for a security company back in 2010-2015 and we did security at the Palace in both Waterbury and Torrington. I worked a Gordon Lightfoot show in Torrington (2013?). I did many concerts in Hartford during that timeframe, both at the XL Center and at the Meadows. We do hope to get out and see some shows later this year, wherever they are, maybe even Waterbury. Have a great week hon.
@@Stan_CT Thanks for the reply. I never got to the Agora but I have seen shows at the Warner Theater and The Meadows, and Webster Theater in Hartford. All great places. Enjoy the cool temps today, I love rainy days. Woke up to loud cracks of thunder and a downpour. I will be making Spanokopita, tidying up my studio and working on my paintings. Blessings to you and yours
It's a shame to see some of those headstones knocked over - I see it often in my travels. You'd think whoever takes care of the cemeteries would try to correct them (at least the ones that aren't broken or cracked. I've tried to right a few myself - they are quite heavy at times). Very understated headstone for Johnny Winter. Thanks for sharing!
Been there 2018. Before Susan passed. They lived 5 minutes away. Been there too.. I left a guitar pick on his grave that I carried in my wallet for 25 years... It was all I had to leave him.... Talk to him for a while too. Haunted Cemetery..... I'm from Florida....Born in R.I.
It's worth mentioning that Johnny always used a thumb pick, never a flat pick. He said in at least one interview that he didn't even know how to play with a flat pick.
Thanks for stopping by CC. Yeah, I've seen some comments disappear from my videos also. YT maybe flagging certain words? Hopefully they'll back off and leave us legit creators alone. Have a great rest of your week.
I saw him at Toad's and have visited this site. Respect and peace, great music!

Thanks for watching Adam. Yes, there seemed to be mix of neglect and vandalism here. Sad to see.

Why Ct? From Beaumont Texas?
He and his wife settled down and lived in the area the last few years of their lives. Quiet town with close proximity to New York City.
Good video
Thanks Naomi.
