I remember this appearance. When they came back from a commercial break, Bette’s dress was pinned so as to cover her cleavage. Bette made a light hearted comment about how they made her cover up and Mike Douglas got all huffy saying something like, “Yes, and we always will.” Bette laughed, but you could tell she was embarrassed and pissed off. I felt badly for her.
This was fabulous-one of her Mike Douglas performances that I’ve never seen! I grew up on the Doris Day version but love Bette’s interpretation just as much-absolutely brilliant! My favorite performer of all time! 🥰👏
Boy, the divine miss m was brilliant. Too sad she became Bette midler. This is great, echoes times past. Lupone did this great at Carnegie hall, but never recorded and of course the incomparable Madame .
This song was written in 1930: music by Richard Rodgers, lyrics by Lorenz (Larry) Hart - who was gay. The lyric is appropriate to the period and the character. Your comment about Bette Midler is just silly. :-)
I wish we had all these fine Miss M performances in one place with the best audio and video. I love seeing them so much!
Gosh she sure is gorgeous
I JUST saw this 9-2024 ❤
Oh my goodness, this is such a treat. Thank you Don!
Brilliant!
what a genius
we're lucky to have her🧡

Thanks so much for uploading. What a great version by a great performer
Bette Midler sure can sing! One of my favorites of her albums is the soundtrack for "For the Boys."
Absolutely mesmerising. One of the greats.
Oh my!! A very sweet performance.
Bette, as always, impeccable.
Best version, ever. Thank you!
If you’d ever listened to ruclips.net/video/x7yAcIuyOb4/видео.html you wouldn’t say so.

Okay this is a religious experience lol 🙏🙌
Very different than Doris Day's version, but equally moving
me and bette was together and that's a true fact !
🤗🎼🇫🇷
Bette Midler rubbed her feet right next to me .....( Bette Somethings things you can' t forget on you tube .)...
pansies and rough guys? did I hear that right?
You're being too sensitive. She was singing the original 1920's/30's lyrics obviously in character for the song.

That's the lyric!
@@bryanismyname7583 4 years later. YOU are too sensitive by over reacting to a simple question.
@@treesny 4 years later. I just asked a question, Mary. I hope you didn't loose sleep over it.
I prefer Doris Day's rendition. She had the stance and the pathos the song needed. Bette makes it light and kind of too pretty.
The original by Ruth Etting is the benchmark
