  • "The Star-Spangled Banner" is the national anthem of the United States. The lyrics come from the "Defence of Fort M'Henry", a poem written by American lawyer Francis Scott Key on September 14, 1814, after he witnessed the bombardment of Fort McHenry by the British Royal Navy during the Battle of Baltimore in the War of 1812. Key was inspired by the large U.S. flag, with 15 stars and 15 stripes, known as the Star-Spangled Banner, flying triumphantly above the fort after the battle. (Source: Wikipedia)
    Music:
The audience sings while the New York Philharmonic perform the U.S. National Anthem, conducted by Lorin Maazel, Kurt Masur, and Alan Gilbert. Recorded June 3, 2016.

Hope that you had a safe 4th of July. Such a nice video, girl. The nicest fireworks I've seen!

@@lindaparker7199 Thank you, dear Lindy! I just sent you an email telling you all about it. Fourth of July used to be my favorite holiday as a kid, but since the ban on home fireworks in SF years ago, it's not quite the same. Still, it sounded like World War III for five hours straight. I guess inflation hasn't affected illegal fireworks sales.

I recommend watching the story of how Francis Scott Key was inspired to write The Star-Spangled Banner. It's amazing how brave our American forefathers were to snarl so boldly at the British lion against tremendous odds. Like the Guru in "Gunga Din" (1939) said:
"Fine generals, friends, are not made of jeweled swords and mustache wax. They are made of what is there [points to his heart] and what is here [his head.]":
