Great find! I LOVE to see people using discarded, recycled materials. Your tiny home doesn't HAVE to cost SO much money - if you're thrifty and resourceful. Love it.
@@KessaWitdaFro would you prefer to be a slave to an absurd mortgage? So long as all parties are on the same page and coexisting with mutual respect, serfdom isn't actually bad. The lord of the land (otherwise known as a landlord) provides a place for those who otherwise wouldn't have one, in exchange for a portion of the serf (otherwise known as tenant)'s value in the form of currency or labor.
I see two people working very hard to provide for themselves in order to survive. Thank you so much for sharing the fruit of your labor with us. I wish you well on your journey.

The ideas that Liam and Rachel bring up here are really insightful. I love the concept that people with land can facilitate communities by finding people eager to be a part.
It's actually a practice in the Caribbean, except many people rent out the land at absurdly low prices with the understanding that it must be movable in case the rental arrangement ends. This can last decades though, even generations.
I think this is awesome. I plan on building my own tiny house in the near future (except mine will be on wheels). I love the idea of using recycled/re-purposed materials to build with. I'm in the U.S. and we have a large population of homeless people. I think tiny house communities could be awesome to use in helping families be able to afford to live in a home of their own rather than on the street. I hope this idea picks up here. Thanks for sharing.
+Jennifer Krenn Homeless people are on the streets for many reasons, but the vast majority is a direct result from mental illness and substance abuse. Two social issues that no local, state or federal government want to spend a penny on. I know in my city we had a group that planed on building a "tiny" home community, the city quickly shut it down. We have 1 of the 2 homeless shelter closing, and just tonight on the news a soup kitchen is asking for donations to keep feeding people through Christmas. Nevada's answer to the mental ill, was to send them in a bus to another state with $20.
+spencer s Yes I know. I work with that population (although they're not currently homeless). Check your city, county, state - rules - most require that every stage of the construction you have to buy a permit for and for each stage it must be inspected by code complaince also the county in the You Tube channel "North Country off the Grid" passed a county ordinance saying that people who bought land in their county COULD NOT live in a RV on their land for more than 6 months that YOU HAVE to BUILD a permanent home that must be permitted and inspected. So building a small house is going to cost you way more than $500.xx in permit fees alone. But I wish more people would do it. TheJamesRedwood ahh! i didnt know there was a hipster word for it. it would be an interesting debate to see a vegan take on a freegan. i mean, some outspoken vegans can be quite hostile about what they think should happen to meat eaters. so i would be interested in seeing what a vegan like that would say in the face of someone who is also ecologically conscious, but in an opposite manner in certain regards. would they condone it? i hope im making sense. it makes sense in my head, but i cant always articulate myself...
I understand, they're both radical lifestyles for similar reasons but not similar conclusions necessarily. BTW I am a meat eater because I am ecologically conscious.
kapuraftw I'm vegan and if you're asking whether or not we like dumpster diving even for non vegan food, (I'm not sure) then I would like to say, hell yeah the reasonable ones do! If it's going to waste anyway then you aren't contributing to the animal agriculture industries. In fact, using food that would have gone to waste is a nice step for the environment.
Polly Smith thanks to you both for the response!! thats exactly what i meant, polly..and you have a very agreeable position. my question had sparked from seeing how black and white the "top vegan" youtubers are...and even many new vegans... for instance...when some newbies choose to start the lifestyle, they will throw away all cosmetic, food, or clothing products in attempt to start fresh... which is clearly a disservice. i do understand why though...they get gung-ho on a new lifestyle, and want all in. i get it- but i also notice the momentary hypocrisy. another question i had if either of you come back around and see it... where do the cards fall when it comes to vegans and pro life/pro choice? i know it can go either way when it comes to each individual... as there are mamy different types of vegans who were inspired from many different ideas... im just curious of the ones that were inspired to make animal rights their main priority...in the more black and white, harsher sense.... i think im pussy-footing the question here.... i think veganism tends to be a larger trend in the liberal community, as is being pro choice. but if an extreme vegan (a no grey area vegan, meat eaters should go die type) feels so strongly about animals, wouldnt it be a contradiction to not have that same strong feelings towards unborn babies? i can draw a lot of parallel thinking between innocent helpless animals and unborn children.... full disclosure- i am quite liberal on most topics....so i dont have an agenda to argue anyones logic...im moreso trying to argue the logic in my own head.... have you ever heard if any of the big vegan/animal rights organizations taken a stance on this? or is it an untouched subject, left to the individual? its cool if no one knows... this convo just got me thinking......
Tuxedo Joe ya its stupid how places have to throw the food away. when i was younger my moms friend worked at a gas staion and they woild make pizzas and sanwiches and other stuff for lunch around ten am them at 2 pm they were supposed to throw away all the lunch food and the day old donuts . so on the weekend and in summer we would wait out back and shed give us a garbage bag full of food then wed just go get stoned in the woods and eat chicken tenders pizza and donuts lol. i dont know about food thats been in the dumpster though but you do what you gotta
In St Louis we have a grocery store called schnucks. They fry up jumbo chicken legs I'm mean huge legs! The jumbo chicken legs are $10 for 10 legs. What's leftover is thrown away at the end of the night. The workers can't take home that wasted food. The store doesn't donate any food.

+Happen Films Hey is it crazy cold in winter out there? Is there any space for more homes on the property? Do they prefer Tiny Homes on Trailers that can be relocated? Any ideas if there are similar communities in other states of Australia? I currently live in Brisbane etc
I know you commented this ages ago but anyway... I live in the Northern Rivers and there's heaps of communities (like the one shown) around here. I live in Lismore which is more country but Nimbin (hippie central) is nearby and I know someone who built a house out Byron way on a community. They seem pretty open to 'permanent' structure (or 'fixed in the ground'), I know his house is. There might even be some places right up near Tweed, which isn't Bris, I know, but depends how flexible you are on location. Also, I believe a company that builds tiny houses ('The Tiny House Company') is located in Brisbane so you could contact them and see if they have any local contacts. Google is your friend.
Dude, Rad! Love it. Have been dreaming to do this for years and have always had faith it could be done. Awesome. Way to go. Great vid. Light & Love 💛✨💛✨
I lived in a communal space for a couple of years and, while I miss parts of it, i'd never go back from not having my own kitchen AND bathroom. I did it but, it's no longer for me at 48. The things I saw in the shared bathrooms..the mess left by others in the kitchen ...Not anymore. But they look happy and that's what matters most. I was them, before.
I love this! when I get my money I'm buying land and doing this. it's been my dream for awhile. wish i could do it now. I'm saving to build a tiny house or r.v can I come stay on this land??
+Teresa S Nope, America has this thing called building codes to ensure that your self-built room doesn't collapse. But you can find places in west Texas with no building codes. There's also no infrastructure, 911 support, jobs or community either.
+Ahntara123 America (large swathes of it anyway and I'm not referring to countries north like Canada, or those south, Mexico and further south who are also part of America) also has codes to keep the vast populace perpetually poor so that the rich can keep getting richer on the misery of the ordinary people. And for crying out loud, who wants to live in suburbs/estates where McMansions all look just about alike?
For that region, about 0.1% of the property has been repossessed by the county for not paying the taxes. The good stuff gets bought, but the county is often stuck with stuff nobody wants. Buy that land, and make something of it. Work with the government, not against it. Structures under 200 square feet have minimal rules. Look at the real estate sites, with a low maximum price. Thanks, take care.
so? The point is to be debt free and free . The size of the house does not matter. They can cook outside on a grill and go outside for number 2. What is more important? Stuff and rooms or freedom? I chose freedom.
+Svetla Nikolova - then you are free to live in a refrigerator box ,what is stopping you ? Oh, that's right -you're selectively paying attention to this .Get real!
Michele Of The Oaks, basically, the "tiny house" they built is a bunk cabin (a bedroom). They even stated in the video that there's common quarters where everyone shares a kitchen, living room, etc.
I live off grid...no running water and no electricity. Yet I live a house.....450 sq ft for 9 people ( us and 7 kids) . We have an outside bath area but an inside compost toilet. You are confusing off grid with tiny . Electric doesn't make a home. Don't knock it til you try it!
That's a shed not a house; a house is winterized, has electricity, heating and plumbing. A shed has none of those things but simply is used to store things which is what your "minihouse" in actuality is.
It's an off grid house. Please tell me you've heard of the off grid movement! A house is a structure...all else is something else. Do you think the houses from the 1800s dont count as houses because they didn't have electricity?
I love the idea of a communal living situation where lots of tiny houses can be set up and have communal buildings for showers and bathroom and kitchens. I wish there was more of that in the world. If that were so, there'd be far less homelessness.
I love this video. Very honest and great.. Moving to see people that you can kind of see yourself in and knowing they could be your friends if you had ever met them.
Really nice idea, I have a lot of respect for those who have a ton of land, and offer plots for services provided and a general "good" bunch of people who are like minded and have many different skills. May God bless you and your families!!!
Better to live in a shed than pay $1000 a month for a one room studio apartment in LA. Sheds have saved lives. I know a woman who slit her wrists when her landlord sold out to a developer. She survived the suicide attempt and found a shed for $200 a month. She now works p/t and no longer wants to die. Last time I saw her - she is teaching herself to play a gitar and finally has a life worth living.
Considering the amount of knowledge at the time tis a great build. It proves that things can be done with the right kind of will. Be better next time around, good luck to them and any others trying to go this way!
This is just a shed. You can buy brand new sheds in Home Depot for a few hundred dollars. I bet that pile of junk will collapse in the winter when the first storm hits
Inspiring. Thanks Jordan, Liam and Rachel. I'm a land owner in NE Vic working towards developing a permaculture farm. I'd love to do something like this one day. We're restricted by council regulations to 1 dwelling. Not sure how we could develop this sort of community given these restrictions. Perhaps caravans or tiny houses on trailers might work better in our situation.
That couple built something of far more significance than their house, they built within themselves the knowledge that they could actually imagine, and then build their own house with their own hands and some basic tools. We are limited by imagination only!
When I saw the moment he playing clarinet facing the house yard, I was like, "Damn, this is definitely what I want." I live in Japan with the society who loves being quiet, and I found it's hard to play instrument freely in your home, even your home is kind of hundreds meter apart from nearest neighborhood.
Dick Proanoke documentary, the OG of house building. that man built a log cabin by scratch. people like the ones in this video are ahead of the game. I salute you!!
Finally a tiny house that is not just as expensive per square foot as many conventional homes. The trade of unoccupied land space is great as well, as the people occupying it are making use of it in the best possible way.
Living proof that one man's trash is another man's treasure. Bravo!

BTW
I am a meat eater because I am ecologically conscious.
kapuraftw I'm vegan and if you're asking whether or not we like dumpster diving even for non vegan food, (I'm not sure) then I would like to say, hell yeah the reasonable ones do!
Absolutely Love your tiny home. Looks cosy yet functional.
I wanna live just like these couples in a four hundred an twenty dollar's tiny house an I love to build
Wurruk'an is really coming along! Thanks for the film jordan
Did they say they found a tarp while digging in a dumpster for food?
+DJstoopnig Yep! Dumpster diving for food!
+David Turner This is the reason why our church works so hard on food banks.
DJstoopnig I work at Starbucks (a liscenced store) and we throw out tons of perfectly good pastries and sandwiches every night
In St Louis we have a grocery store called schnucks. They fry up jumbo chicken legs I'm mean huge legs! The jumbo chicken legs are $10 for 10 legs. What's leftover is thrown away at the end of the night. The workers can't take home that wasted food. The store doesn't donate any food.
love your video!!! thank you so much for sharing! it takes me right back to the days of my youth and how we could live this way in small communities and some of our children grew to spread this knowledge is enlightening. remember to 'Spread the Seeds' when you can !
I think Jordan should change his name to just "HAIR"!
I think Shaggy is more his speed , and also he should get a brown Great Dane and start solving mysteries while living in a van with another dude and two chicks :D
What an economical smart way to live and build up your community at the same time. I love the heart of people who see a great and resourceful way to share what they have that helps others and offer opportunity's for people living on their land to make something beautiful and economical
Anyone know of communities like this in the states?
Mike Lange I would love to know also if there's a tiny house village I'm pa?
This is one of the most joyful videos I have watched in a long time. Good luck to you with your home!
Liam Culbertson (the man sitting on the left) looks like an Australian Elijah Wood.
+djisomatic That's what i was thinking!
+Fueler hahaha true
Hahahaha 100%
Very cool! Please post more about this community.
Awesome guys
Great build. I’m really impressed with your community. 🏠
Where in Australia is this place?
+frigginboom Gippsland, Victoria
It's a private rural property. You can find out more at wurrukan.org
Why can't I find a landowner who needs me to live there for free and plant gardens for them??
You might have Message me
@@angelicasgarden8776 I need land for me and my wife to live on and plant gardens and stuff
I'm saving to build a tiny house or r.v can I come stay on this land??
communal living......great idea....true cooperation....conservation minimal footprint what a marvelous...way of living......
You said it was easy so Imagine making houses like this for homeless people I really want to do that.
this was probably 1 of the most inspirational videos i've seen in a long time
Anyone know of a place like this in the northwest part of the US?
+Paul Jordan You're preaching to the choir
+Ahntara123 yeah, well not everybody has actually heard the choir. If it helps but one person then it's worth it. Not that I don't take your point.
What a smart and inspiring couple.
No running water, no electricity, no kitchen, no bathroom. That's not a tiny house, it's nothing more than a shed.
That's exactly what it is technically, but it acts as a separate bedroom.
So impressive. The communal areas look fantastic!
So inspiring....
+The Andy Gibson Project Thanks Andy!
Happen Films If I paid you both $600 would you build me one? :) I'm seriously interested
Inspiring ?!?! To do what , be homeless ? :D
this is just so cool, i hope it will happen everywhere around the world
As long as the sex is great, the smallness of the house doesn't matter.
Sleeping loft ceilings are too low. It probably puts some limits on sex positions : (
unknown cuyler Haha!
Thanks to the land owner. Good job guys, it's easy to grow vegetables in there. God bless you.
That's a shed not a house; a house is winterized, has electricity, heating and plumbing. A shed has none of those things but simply is used to store things which is what your "minihouse" in actuality is.
Maxx Kroes A hut isn't a house, either, hence the distinct word?
It's an off grid house. Please tell me you've heard of the off grid movement! A house is a structure...all else is something else. Do you think the houses from the 1800s dont count as houses because they didn't have electricity?
Fantastic job and fantastic land owners.
i bet they the moisture build up recked the 📚
Congratulations to both of YOU!!!!
Half of iPhone7 price 🙂🙂
I love the idea of a communal living situation where lots of tiny houses can be set up and have communal buildings for showers and bathroom and kitchens. I wish there was more of that in the world. If that were so, there'd be far less homelessness.
Aah the world.
Started as being free for everyone.
Ended up being owned by some people.
I love this video. Very honest and great.. Moving to see people that you can kind of see yourself in and knowing they could be your friends if you had ever met them.
It looks like an outhouse
Viola T it sure does. I need something better than that.
Really nice idea, I have a lot of respect for those who have a ton of land, and offer plots for services provided and a general "good" bunch of people who are like minded and have many different skills.
May God bless you and your families!!!
It's not a house, it's shed. It has no bathroom, toilet, shower or laundry.
+spoddie True that.
+spoddie it's a house
Trey Ahzze Not according to the National Construction Code
spoddie it even looks like an outhouse
Better to live in a shed than pay $1000 a month for a one room studio apartment in LA. Sheds have saved lives. I know a woman who slit her wrists when her landlord sold out to a developer. She survived the suicide attempt and found a shed for $200 a month. She now works p/t and no longer wants to die. Last time I saw her - she is teaching herself to play a gitar and finally has a life worth living.
just looking at them you see the happiness and peace.
yall lost me when you said looking in the dumpster for food. nope. no thanks.
Maxx Kroes or at least go to a food bank
Considering the amount of knowledge at the time tis a great build. It proves that things can be done with the right kind of will. Be better next time around, good luck to them and any others trying to go this way!
This is just a shed. You can buy brand new sheds in Home Depot for a few hundred dollars. I bet that pile of junk will collapse in the winter when the first storm hits
Wendy Glass DEAD
I'm sure I could build something similar for $50-$100. They've been ripped off lol.
heartlesss
Wendy Glass the sheds at home depot are actually worth more than that and don't come with bookshelves.
This place is far more superior than some home depot cookie cutter shed.........get your life.
Good for you guys! That's awesome.
3:21....that reminded me of the scenery from The Shire for a split second. :)
Hey kids AWSOME job! So glad you built a lovely little place and appreciate the land. Love and God Bless from America! Uncle Jeff!
Beautiful, humble, intelligent people.
Wow, I am very inspired on you guys , thank you so much :)
Really beautiful. Good work guys !!!
This is truly beautiful and this is indeed the future. Great work Happen films. New subscriber here.
What an adorable couple
You guys are AMAZING!!!! Right up my alley...
That couple built something of far more significance than their house, they built within themselves the knowledge that they could actually imagine, and then build their own house with their own hands and some basic tools.
We are limited by imagination only!
When I saw the moment he playing clarinet facing the house yard, I was like, "Damn, this is definitely what I want."
I live in Japan with the society who loves being quiet, and I found it's hard to play instrument freely in your home, even your home is kind of hundreds meter apart from nearest neighborhood.
I would like you to give the landowners a message from me ----- God Bless you for giving this wonderful generation an opportunity. You're awesome!!
