    I think this is awesome. I plan on building my own tiny house in the near future (except mine will be on wheels). I love the idea of using recycled/re-purposed materials to build with. I'm in the U.S. and we have a large population of homeless people. I think tiny house communities could be awesome to use in helping families be able to afford to live in a home of their own rather than on the street. I hope this idea picks up here. Thanks for sharing.

    • @spencers4121

      +Jennifer Krenn Homeless people are on the streets for many reasons, but the vast majority is a direct result from mental illness and substance abuse. Two social issues that no local, state or federal government want to spend a penny on. I know in my city we had a group that planed on building a "tiny" home community, the city quickly shut it down. We have 1 of the 2 homeless shelter closing, and just tonight on the news a soup kitchen is asking for donations to keep feeding people through Christmas. Nevada's answer to the mental ill, was to send them in a bus to another state with $20.

    • @jennifermichaud6019
      @jennifermichaud6019 9 лет назад +3

      +spencer s Yes I know. I work with that population (although they're not currently homeless). There was a tiny home community that was supposed to be built where I used to live as well and it was shut down too. A lot of people will be quick to send money to help the starving in a 3rd world country but they want to ignore the issues with homelessness and hunger in the U.S. because it's inconvenient and not "aesthetically pleasing". People where I used to live had a shelter shut down because they did not want to have to see homeless people walking around. They felt it drove down the values of their homes.

      Check your city,county,state - rules - most require that every stage of the construction you have to buy a permit for and for each stage it must be inspected by code complaince also the county in the You Tube channel "North Country off the Grid" passed a county ordinance saying that people who bought land in their county COULD NOT live in a RV on their land for more than 6 months that YOU HAVE to BUILD a permanent home that must be permitted and inspected. So building a small house is going to cost you way more than $500.xx in permit fees alone. But I wish more people would do it. Also check into those garden sheds that they sell at Home Depo an d Lowe's that are built pretty strong. And some look like country barns and a few other designs. Good luck , good video.

If it's going to waste anyway then you aren't contributing to the animal agriculture industries. In fact, using food that would have gone to waste is a nice step for the environment.

    • @kapuraftw
      @kapuraftw 7 лет назад +7

      Polly Smith thanks to you both for the response!! thats exactly what i meant, polly..and you have a very agreeable position. my question had sparked from seeing how black and white the "top vegan" youtubers are...and even many new vegans... for instance...when some newbies choose to start the lifestyle, they will throw away all cosmetic, food, or clothing products in attempt to start fresh... which is clearly a disservice. i do understand why though...they get gung-ho on a new lifestyle, and want all in. i get it- but i also notice the momentary hypocrisy.
      another question i had if either of you come back around and see it...
      where do the cards fall when it comes to vegans and pro life/pro choice? i know it can go either way when it comes to each individual... as there are mamy different types of vegans who were inspired from many different ideas... im just curious of the ones that were inspired to make animal rights their main priority...in the more black and white, harsher sense....
      i think im pussy-footing the question here....
      i think veganism tends to be a larger trend in the liberal community, as is being pro choice.
      but if an extreme vegan (a no grey area vegan, meat eaters should go die type) feels so strongly about animals, wouldnt it be a contradiction to not have that same strong feelings towards unborn babies? i can draw a lot of parallel thinking between innocent helpless animals and unborn children....
      full disclosure- i am quite liberal on most topics....so i dont have an agenda to argue anyones logic...im moreso trying to argue the logic in my own head.... have you ever heard if any of the big vegan/animal rights organizations taken a stance on this? or is it an untouched subject, left to the individual?
      its cool if no one knows... this convo just got me thinking......

      In St Louis we have a grocery store called schnucks. They fry up jumbo chicken legs I'm mean huge legs! The jumbo chicken legs are $10 for 10 legs. What's leftover is thrown away at the end of the night. The workers can't take home that wasted food. The store doesn't donate any food.

      I know you commented this ages ago but anyway... I live in the Northern Rivers and there's heaps of communities (like the one shown) around here. I live in Lismore which is more country but Nimbin (hippie central) is nearby and I know someone who built a house out Byron way on a community. They seem pretty open to 'permanent' structure (or 'fixed in the ground'), I know his house is. There might even be some places right up near Tweed, which isn't Bris, I know, but depends how flexible you are on location. Also, I believe a company that builds tiny houses ('The Tiny House Company') is located in Brisbane so you could contact them and see if they have any local contacts. Google is your friend.

    I lived in a communal space for a couple of years and, while I miss parts of it, i'd never go back from not having my own kitchen AND bathroom. I did it but, it's no longer for me at 48. The things I saw in the shared bathrooms..the mess left by others in the kitchen ...Not anymore. But they look happy and that's what matters most. I was them, before.

      For that region, about 0.1% of the property has been repossessed by the county for not paying the taxes. The good stuff gets bought, but the county is often stuck with stuff nobody wants. Buy that land, and make something of it. Work with the government, not against it. Structures under 200 square feet have minimal rules. Look at the real estate sites, with a low maximum price.
      Thanks, take care.

      Better to live in a shed than pay $1000 a month for a one room studio apartment in LA. Sheds have saved lives. I know a woman who slit her wrists when her landlord sold out to a developer. She survived the suicide attempt and found a shed for $200 a month. She now works p/t and no longer wants to die. Last time I saw her - she is teaching herself to play a gitar and finally has a life worth living.
