Most likely there is something that happened. It's a nitpick likely because I was very into academics and did lots of special programs in different subjects. A pet peeve, but not enough for me to not be interested in what's going on here. I think I'm most curious to see if redhead and crappy teacher's personality shift at all over what they've learned. And whether we'll see Will showcase backbone in other situations as we saw in this episode.
People have been hyping this series but I honestly don't think it is anything great. To me it has all the usual tropes. A MC who is picked on, a cute friend, a childhood friend with a promise etc... all things we have seen before.
I get where you're coming from. I've never been one to say something like "This show has (eg.) a promise to a childhood friend, so why does anything else with that need to exist?" (and I'm not suggesting you are either, to be clear...) BUT... What a show / story needs is something that is going to make it stand out. What is it about Will's character, his world, how things go with other people / his goals, etc. that will separate it from other stories that have used the tropes we see here? That's the question. Personally, I'm still hung up on how / why he is allowed to attend this school with absolutely no magical prowess, and the reality that it only seems to be the one professor who realizes his true talent. I can buy into the idea that they don't seem to have warriors--only mages. But without even a smidge of magical talent, how he's at a mages academy is tripping me up way more than I expected. Hopefully I'll get passed that, as I'd like to at least have fun with this. We shall see.
