    I had a standard 300Tdi years ago. We went to the desert in southern Morocco several times. There were always severe dust storms in the area. We never had a problem with the engine which still ran for another 100,000 miles afterwards.
    BUT, if I was going to Iceland or somewhere with deep water crossings, I would do as you have done.
    Like the videos of course !

    Oh so true!! The fit of the poly parts that lead from the intake in the wing to the airbox is a joke.. I don't know why LR bothered fitting the parts, other than to not breathe hot air from the engine bay!! I loved watching you take out the airbox.. now I'd like to see you take out the windscreen washer bottle.. fun fun fun!!

    I much prefer to stay standard as having such a well thought out replacement air intake system would make most people think the vehicle can now drive in depths well beyond the safety measurements required to save your engine and ECU? But love your up grades all the same thank you!

    Hi Émeline!
    Thanks for all your great videos 🙌🏼
    I fitted mine and tried your solution to detect leaks with a ballon at the top of the snorkel. This completely crushed my snorkel to airbox duct 😫
    I don’t know about yours, but the current versions provided by Nugget stuff are "springy" ducts (the ones with spring shape and outer rubber).
    This duct doesn’t come back to shape afterward and I cannot easily access it to put it back to normal.
    It would be great to put a comment at that stage of your video to avoid this happening to other defender’s owner.
    For me, that is probably going to be a 3-4 hours work to remove everything again and fix this. 😖

    • @offtrackfamily
      @offtrackfamily  2 года назад

      Oh no, sorry to hear that! It's true that we didn't use the hose that was provided. Maybe would be good to send a message to Nugget Stuff or to the distributor where you bought the kit because it seems you aren't the first one. Unfortunately I cannot change anything on the video on RUclips but will add a warning in the description. Thanks for letting us (and viewers) know by commenting the video!

    Great video as always, well filmed and well explained. I do question the increased effectiveness versus the effort/cost and the extremes you would need to subject your vehicle (dangerously deep water, extreme dusty conditions) to justify all this advanced air filtering. In my opinion, for dusty conditions, the sealed barrier between the standard good quality air filter and the engine is efficient and protects the engine from 99% dust particles. I acknowledge you guys have 1) way more overland travel experience than me and 2) the Land Rover enjoyment factor needs no justification. Thank you for your superbly entertaining videos, you guys are my first source for practical advice.👌🏻

    • @offtrackfamily
      @offtrackfamily  4 года назад +1

      Thanks a lot for your message & the question! Indeed not all this upgrade (the airbox) would be necessary depending on your use of the vehicle. But we do think that the first part of this mod is important.
      - By installing a snorkel the air intake is supposed to increase but if you don't replace the connection to the air box by a larger hose & seal it, this snorkel is kind of useless.
      - This Defender is also subject to overheating issues so increasing the air intake with a snorkel & larger hose is helping to cool down the engine.
      - If you do some wading (even not so extreme), you might find mud & water, like we did, in the air box (which is a dangerous situation for the engine) if you don't seal the connections & plug the drain hole in the stock air box.
      Hope this answers you question, let me know if you have any others. Always happy to help :)

    • @offtrackfamily
      @offtrackfamily  3 года назад +1

      When installed we weren't sharing everything we do and we dont have any footage. Indeed on a lhd it seems impossible for the bigger hose to pass because of the heater air intake sold hose but it does. It's tricky and might make you doubt & sweat but it's doable. It goes under the heater solid hose and it's good to remove it or losen it to pass the Nugget stuff hose, you can see it on the left of the pic at 1.58 min

    Very informative video, thanks. I have a question now that you have had the upgraded air filter installed for a while. Have you noticed any improvement in power and fuel consumption? I have a 2016 Defender 110 SW with the 2.2 TDCi engine and looking to upgrade the air filter. Would be grateful for your feedback.

    • @offtrackfamily
      @offtrackfamily  3 года назад

      Thanks for your message! As we have a pre-filter on our snorkel, it's difficult to say if we had an improvement in power. Fuel consumption is something difficult to evaluate clearly considering the traffic differences while on the road and it's not something we really look at. Our concern was to have a properly sealed air intake system to be peaceful while off-road and we are very happy with this full air intake system upgrade from Nugget Stuff.

      Thanks for your message! Yes I understand, ours was already damaged that's why we didn't mind braking it to get it out ;) To get it out on a LHD the aircondition hose (draining the liquid before, etc) & the viscous fan's plastic guard should be removed, or removing the wing to access the air box. In any cases it takes time & effort to get it out :)

    Thanks for this video. I have the OEM raised air intake and a breather kit fitted to my RHD 90 2007 tdci. However I didn’t know about these risks and issues which I still face. You mentioned that if water was to get close to the front wing level we’d have other problems before going over your breather kit. Can you please advise what those would be please? I live on a dead end lane which floods sometimes twice a year and once to a depth of 1.5 meters!!

    • @offtrackfamily
      @offtrackfamily  3 года назад +1

      Hi! Thanks for your comment. We mentioned it because the ECU is just at this level in the engine bay. It isn't a "big" risk but in general all the engine parts especially electric parts doesn't like water but if you have breathers and raised air intake you should be fine don't worry about that.

    • @offtrackfamily
      @offtrackfamily  3 года назад +1

      Thanks! You can use standard filters number 16546-04N00. We recently asked to Wayne from Nugget Stuff if it was possible to use a similar filter in K&N version. It is but if over oiled, it will ruin the MAF sensor. It should be interesting to see the difference. We will let you know.

For anyone else reading this that’s curious, Nugget Stuff do sell a sealed airbox kit for both the Defender TD5 and 300 TDi for $320 AUD as of the time I write this comment, although I don’t have one myself. Thanks a lot for your message! EGR blanking isn't physically possible on Puma 2.4 & 2.2 without an electronic modification on the ECU. You can do it when you do a remap for example. They will program it with the EGR always in "closed" mode. If you want more info, please contact us via PM on facebook or instagram :)

    Can you name the additional parts needed to this: www.firstfour.co.uk/product/defender-puma-replacement-air-filter-box-leo-delux-version/?
    There ist a "Nugget Stuff Sealed Air Box System" mentioned and -of course- which snorkel matches this system.

    • @offtrackfamily
      @offtrackfamily  4 года назад +1

      To have a good link between the snorkel and the airbox the most important is this part of the kit.
      www.firstfour.co.uk/product/defender-puma-sealed-air-system/
      Then you can fit any snorkel if you seal it properly. Safari are very good for this use and the diameter is bigger than other snorkels like mantec so you have more airflow to the airbox.

    You need to upgrade the turbo suction pipe, bellautoservices.co.uk/store/tdci-airbox-to-turbo-hose-black-5-ply/
