Thanks for this! I feel like I've heard these first five notes countless times over the years. It's just even more catchy now that our Dudes have "elevated"!!
If I understand the backstory correctly, Loops were commissioned by Samsung to reinterpret their iconic ringtone Over the Horizon and this is the result.
Jillian., I love when you shout "Dirty Loops" immediately when the video starts! Jeremy talked over the best bass part, hopefully you'll hear that on a second listen ;-) This is one of my favorite Dirty Loops songs. The funk/groove sections have musical texture to die for - I could listen to that groove on a "loop" all day! Jeremy, you described the ending perfectly - like we are not going to heaven! You guys should check out some of Jonah's solo videos. "Coffee Break (feat. Richard Bona)" and "Diamond Ring (feat. Steve Vai)" are both among my favorites in the Dirty Loops world.
The intro did sound similar to a ringtone. I like to use the chime tones because they don’t scare me! The high notes, the scatting, the BASS sounds, the drums…it’s all so good!!! Good to see you, Matt. You all are so funny together!!!! Let’s do this again next week. Thanks, Melli. 🎶 Cyd
Thanks to all three of you guys for a stellar reaction! That intro scream , Jillian, and Jeremy’s loopified song -epic! 👌👌😉 For me, once I’ve heard the Dirty Loops version of that ringtone I could not unhear it 😉 Every time a Samsung phone goes off somewhere, I’d be like: hey but have you heard the Dirty Loops version of it?! From what I understand, once a year Samsung gives their ringtone to some artist or band, to reimagine it. This version here is so dope, it’s like a whole symphony. Watch the short vids on The Making of this, where those three dudes get to play some of their parts and riffs in isolation -always super interesting I find (links below.) They also talk about the challenge of writing a tune based on 5 notes (6 strictly speaking) and how to compress the sound enough to make it work on a mobile phone… There also is a whole spiel on the Samsung News website (The evolution of the Samsung Brand Sound) where they explain how this ringtone came to be, who wrote it, the whole idea behind a brand sound, etc. (Jacob Collier, brilliant British musician and friend of Jonah’s, also wrote a version of that sound where he plays all 8 instruments himself 😱 -what else would you do if you were Jacob??) Check out those links below, and I’ll see you at the next Dirty Loops reaction! ☺️👍👌
@@musikbyjh thanks and love your reactions to them. They are just as good live. Just so you know, this video was the trio making a song out of the Samsung ring tone. Jacob Collier and others have done the same thing in their own version/style. Keep reacting to Dirty Loops! It's fun to see people's responses as they fall down the rabbit hole! Keep checking out their videos on Songs for Lovers also. Good stuff.
Thanks for listening to my suggestion last week… over the horizon. if you want to continue “sayonara Love” is a fantastic song, with a great chorus. You have to see Jonah's other projects. (MJ) cover “ bad is a masterpiece. and jonah with steve vai.
I was droping my kid off at kindergarten one day and the staff had this ringtone on the phone there, sounding in the background. I was praying they wouldnt pick up so I could hear it some more. Oh what a joy, made my day! 🤩 Can you imagine buying a new phone back in 2016 and it has this pre loaded as the standard ringtone?! 🤯🥳
😂 The Samsung theme is the piano part from Jonah. Samsung did one year later also a collaboration with Jacob Collier. If you compare these, you will see. 😉
I hear both Stevie's and Michael's vocal influence in Jonah's voice, but do I also hear Ella Fitzgerald's scat and runs in his voice too? This guy is amazing! As a former standup bass player, I am also in awe of Henrik's bass playing, and Aron's playing of whatever it is that he does. Together they are all incredible! So fun to watch.
It's so wierd hearing someone saying "oh, that bass!" At the same time as Jonah is shreading on thru out the whole song, on the piano and synth... most beautiful piano playing with extreme sensitive touch. I'm just saying... but hey... I'm just the nerdy but not single minded musiscian over here, trying not to be partly blinded.
@kingvii7250 Fair point - perhaps because I (Jillian) am learning the bass, we may be a little bass-focused at the moment. Each song grabs our attention in different ways. ;-)
When you hire the 3 best musicians on the planet to create a version of your ringtone, you don't get a "brand sound," you get a masterpiece.
Very true, thanks!
wifey is right. even the first five notes is the classic samsung ringtone. they build the whole song around these 5 notes...
Thanks for this! I feel like I've heard these first five notes countless times over the years. It's just even more catchy now that our Dudes have "elevated"!!
I always dance around the room when someone calls me....and then I don't pick up my phone 😊 There's also 'a making of''. It's fun to watch!
LOL!!! We'd be the same way, Corine. 🤣

We all owe you big time 🙏
And how good was it to have Matt on board again 👍✌️🤘

Probably the first ringtone to have a drum solo...
We want to hear their actual version on a phone!!!! Have you heard it?!
Thanks to all three of you guys for a stellar reaction!

Same! This and Forever Young are my favorites, probably because they both sound very Pet Metheny-inspired.
Jeremy reaction on H. Linder bass harmonics triplets is priceless 😄😄😄

I love this song. Music for these guys is like legos for a kid.
he's saying: "OVER THE HORIZON yeah yeah"
It’s not familiar because It sounds like other ringtones, it’s familiar because it’s the iconic Samsung ringtone that is in all Samsung phones.
Copy that, thanks for the comment!
