In Thai culture, we have something similar, but it’s the bridesmaids that block the groom’s path and he has to basically bribe his way to finally get to the bride 🤣

In Thai wedding, we have something call "silver gate, golden gates" The bridemaids, usually will holds golden or flower chains blocking the grooms from entering. The grooms family have to bribe their way in. Usually with money, but sometime with actions like "100 pushups". The final gate is reserve for the closest of the friends. It's a very fun ceremony.

In Thai culture we do this too but in the reverse, so the bride’s friends and family will prevent the groom from going to get his bride, we use gold chains instead of the knife.

You do know that you can make your wish come true? Go to a Church or a religious house or call and speak with the religious leader there. Tell him/ her what you wish to do and ask if they can find you a family willing to allow your attendance. You may have to observe some customs of their so be prepared.

In india we have this in Hindu culture too. Known as 'badh rokni' in marwari (hindi dialect of Rajasthan) but it is done by the boy's sisters when the pair comes to the groom's house after marriage. Groom's sisters block the way and are paid.

@@kathybrensinger6766 Not everything that sounds like that is immediately Arabic. The instrument is called Zurna, and it's origin is not even Arabic, but Persian. You can find in Armenian culture, Turkish culture and even in Europe in the Balkans (Serbia for example).

@@IpadLaser well its fun because everyone is there to celebrate and have some funny moments so teasing the bride and groom a little like that can be fun memory for everyone. the money is a added bonus like an older brother giving a gift to a younger sister. ( Some weddings get too serious abt it but its just suppose to be there for a few laughs)
